Martin D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS Acoustic Guitar - Natural Reviews

6-string Acoustic Guitar with Spruce Top, Mahogany Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Natural

The Martin D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS is a flatpicker's delight, and an instant collectable. Martin left no stone unturned, exhaustively researching original pre-WWII D-18s to nail the specs, materials, and construction methods used in this historic re-creation. This guitar boasts a spot-on Golden-era body profile, an Adirondack spruce top with circa-1937 Adirondack bracing, "Old Style 18" fingerboard inlays, an authentic neck barrel and heel, brown tortoise-pattern binding, an ebony fingerboard, a glue-in long-saddle bridge, and a bone nut. To top it off, the D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS is finished using Martin's Vintage Tone System (VTS), a unique tonewood-finishing recipe that allows Martin to age a guitar's top. All that vintage goodness results in a highly playable — and incredible-sounding — acoustic guitar. If you're in the market for a truly special instrument, the Martin D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS is it.

A forever guitar!

By Torgy from Star, ID on December 5, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate player, folk, cowboy, blues and bluegrass lover

I am lovin' this guitar! The sound is so sweet and round with plenty of depth, it's angelic. I'm in heaven. It makes my D-18 Standard sounds boomier and flat in comparison; The Standard model is just missing the depth that the Authentic 1937 model has. I could sell every other guitar I own and be content with this Martin D-18A 1937 and my Gibson 1942 Banner J-45. Both guitars are so very different, but the quality and depth of the sound is the same. They ring forever with layers of overtones. They really compliment each other and yet hold their own against each other. I am so excited to have this Martin! I think I have found my two forever guitars.

Many thanks to my Sales Engineer, Jake Barker, who counseled and advised me on the caliber of this guitar - and all the other conversations and help too. For me the torrefied Adirondack top and bracing does makes a difference in regards to sound. Maybe it is just the sound quality of the pre-war models that floors me. I'm a fan of Mahogany. I don't know why Martin always puts plastic pins in their guitars regardless of the model and price, but swapping those out with bone/horn can only add to the tone. The neck is thick, but not as high like a V and round C. If you can afford it, buy it!
