Martin D-16E Rosewood Acoustic-electric Guitar - Natural Reviews

6-string Acoustic-electric Guitar with Spruce Top, Rosewood Back and Sides, Hardwood Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Natural

The Martin D-16E Rosewood acoustic-electric guitar is a wonderful option for the performing guitarist who loves the warm, full tone and robust projection of rosewood topped with spruce. The guitar's quality construction — which includes scalloped, forward-shifted X bracing — elicits a sound that is powerful and balanced, with excellent note definition. It complements the human voice beautifully, yet is perfectly at home as a solo instrument or layered into a track. And the onboard Fishman Matrix VT Enhance NT2 pickup system amplifies that gorgeous tone flawlessly when plugged in onstage. You'll also find the large dreadnought body and 25.4" scale length great for fingerpicking. But whether finger- or flatpicked, live or unplugged, the Martin D-16E Rosewood is a sheer delight to play.

MARTIN D16-E

By Gerard Harrington from PEARL RIVER, NY on December 7, 2023 Music Background: acoustic duo

I perform live probably 8 times a month, already have a D28 and a Taylor T5.
Wanted another guitar, So I tortuned my sales engineer Lindsey lol.
I bought a Taylor...returned it after 1 gig...then bought a $ Larrivee, never even maded it to a gig....did not like sound or action, so that went back.
D-16E is perfect, great Martin sound without the boomyness...action incredibly smooth.
Highly recommend it..and SWeetwater!!

Everything I Hoped It Would Be

By Sweetwater Customer on August 11, 2023

I have had this guitar for some time now. I purchased it at the Sweetwater retail store in Fort Wayne, IN. My buying experience was what I have come to expect from Sweetwater. It was excellent. I come to 6 string acoustic guitar from a trumpet playing background. I really appreciate pure clear notes. High quality open B's from acoustic guitars seem challenging to obtain in my experience. This is not the case with my D-16E. All open notes ring out clear and sweet. I made my living as a carpenter for a time and appreciate good workmanship. My D-16E seems flawless, which gives me great satisfaction. I am a senior citizen, and as I tried different guitars while shopping, the comfort and playability of the D-16E's narrower 000 body depth really became apparent. I can perceive no shortcomings in the 000 depth. I don't often use the electronics on the D-16E, but when I plug it into my Fender Acoustic 100 amp, the results are wonderful. My D-16E came with an amply padded semi-rigid case, which is attractive and seems to afford plenty of protection. Finally, having worked for several years as a skilled American tradesman, I treasure high quality items made in the USA, which is where my Martin D-16E came from.

Couldn’t be happier

By Scott Dawson on March 10, 2023 Music Background: Traditional country recording artist. My 4th CD “Strum” won Traditional Country Album of the Year at the 2022 Josie Music Awards held at the Grand Ole Opry House

Once I decided to purchase a Martin D-16e I knew Sweetwater was the place to go. Sure enough I was satisfied that I paid a fair price and this beautiful instrument arrived safe and sound and right on time as promised by Sweetwater. I couldn't be happier with my new guitar and the service Sweetwater provided to place it in my hands. I couldn't be happier with my purchase experience and can't recommend Sweetwater any higher.
Try them. You won't be disappointed.

Great Guitar

By Allen King from Missouri on February 21, 2022 Music Background: 30+ Years. Hard Rock...Now Bluegrass.

I was looking at getting a D-28 but found this. Its pretty much a thinner D-28,. Extremely comfortable to play. Don't let the 000 body fool you. It has clean clear tone and a nice bottom end and can get plenty loud if you want to. Its with out a doubt my favorite acoustic I've ever had and I now play it more than any guitar I own. I would recommend a hard case instead of the gig bag Martin includes, at this price point a hard case should have been included by Martin. Not a fan of using a gig bag on an $ guitar. For reference the Martin C640 case is a perfect snug fit. The gator case is way to loose. This is a guitar to pass down as a family heir loom in years to come.

Fantastic Instrument with Brilliant Customer Service

By Joseph Galanek from South Euclid, OH on July 2, 2021

Grant Vitek, my sales engineer, walked me through every step of the buying process for this Martin. I've never had a USA acoustic, let alone a good acoustic. I went with Sweetwater because of Grant's attention to my questions, his recommendations, and his suggestions. Arrived with absolutely no issues, and played beautifully right out of the box (24 hours later!). Rich and resonant and easy to play. I am really happy to finally have a quality acoustic guitar, and I felt reassured that it would arrive with no issues because of Sweetwater's inspection and Grant's professionalism. Thank you Grant and Sweetwater for making this a smooth, stress-free experience.

Martin D-16E Rosewood

By Ron from Georgia on June 3, 2021

This is my first USA made Martin guitar and I am not disappointed. The craftsmanship and playability is superb. The dreadnought size with the 000 depth is very comfortable to play. Looks and sounds fantastic. Purchasing from Sweetwater was a great experience. Enjoyed being able to view pictures of the various serial numbers available and select the guitar I wanted. Always concerned with shipping but the guitar arrived in 2 days securely packaged in a double box. Right after I placed my order my sound engineer, Justin, called to review the order with me, then followed up by sending me a set of photos of my guitar, a nice touch.

Outstanding customer service!

By Hubert Alejo from Chula Vista, CA on December 15, 2020 Music Background: 25 years intermediate occasional guitar player.

My second guitar from sweetwater both 100% satisfied. I Highly recommend Josh Kattner, hes an amazing sales engineer. He checks on you and your gear. Just like buying a guitar and gaining another friend. As soon as I made the deal my guitar was shipped and on the way. The guitar I originally like is at musicians friend, but their customer service is not even close to sweetwater. Thanks for staying in business I will buy all my gears here and nowhere else.

Outstanding

By Alexandro on January 25, 2020

Was originally thinking of getting a D-28 but this is so comfortable being 000 depth and just sounds fantastic for a lot less. Still made in the US which is always great. It has plenty of bass really but it’s not as boomy as a standard dreadnought and with that comes a bit more clarity which I love. It’s super comfortable to play and if you need to plug it in it’s very easy. Really happy with this guitar. Looks beautiful too. Looking forward to hearing it break in over the next few years.

Review of the 2019 Martin D16E Rosewood

By Chuck Hodges from Macon, Georgia on December 15, 2019 Music Background: 46 Years playing Guitar, 12 years professionally

I was actually looking at the D28 and came across this D16E Rosewood on the Martin and Sweetwater sites and after days of research and talking with Bob Furlong (Sales Engineer) with Sweetwater I made my decision to purchase the D16. I can’t say enough about the incredible service I received from Bob!!! He’s always patient and actually listens to any questions I might have and bends over backwards to help!! Once I contacted him back with my decision to purchase this guitar he already had everything and I mean everything in place for my purchase!! Within 2 hours I was sent pictures and the serial number of the guitar for my final approval!! Within a few short more hours I received an email with the shipment information!! Sweetwater DEFINITELY has their %#$& together when it comes to customer service!!
Now 2 days later the guitar arrives and after the agonizing 24 hour wait before unboxing my new toy (My wife ragged on me all night because I was literally going out of my mind) so the guitar could get acclimated from the cold temperatures of the shipment, I finally got to open up my new toy!! This guitar is awesome!! The tone, volume, action, playability, and looks are incredible!! You can tell it’s definitely a higher quality Martin!! It sounds so close to a D28 that you would not be disappointed purchasing this guitar!! Thanks again Sweetwater for all the help, patience and understanding with my purchase!!!!

First Martin

By Mark w MacKenzie from NY on November 2, 2019

Been playing on and off for 50 years. Had the same guitar since 1976,a Gibson MK-53 which I always enjoyed. I just always regretted not getting the Martin at that time. I figured a had waited long enough and picked up the d16-e. Love it. Sweetwater talked with me for about 30 minutes to help me with my purchase so I felt great in my selection. Arrived in two days in perfect shape tuned. Highly recommend the guitar and Sweetwater.

Martin D16e rosewood acoustic guitar

By KED on August 25, 2023

The D16e was the 3rd guitar I've purchased from Sweerwater. The sales engineers have always been very helpful throughout the process and I received the guitar within a few days. As always, it was well packaged and in great shape.
The D16e sounds really good plugged or unplugged and the action was fine right out of the box. The 000 body is easy to play, has a beautiful warm sound and projects well with great sustain. It's well worth the money.
It came with a nice gig bag, but a solid case would be more appropriate for that guitar. Hence, 4 1/2 stars instead of 5. I did purchase an after market dreadnought case from Sweetwater made for the 000 body.

Martin D16e Guitar

By Mack Golden from SW Louisiana on August 24, 2022 Music Background: Educator/professional musician 40 years

This has to be the finest guitar I have owned in close to 30 years. My local dealer sold Washburn, and I even had their best guitar made that started to show major wear after 25 years, so I sopped and decided on the Mart D16e. The only thing about it is the sorry excuse of a case that Martin sent it with. Paying this much for a guitar should warrant a hard shell case at least. I ordered the guitar on a Thursday, received it the following Thursday, ordered a new case on the Friday.

Martin D16e

By Ross from Indianapolis, IN on September 19, 2019 Music Background: Guitarist, Music Director, (Primarily worship music)

Purchased this guitar as a backup to a Gibson J-45. Jason, my sales engineer, suggested it as a reliable and more affordable alternative to a D-18, and he was spot on. It played very smooth right out of the box, and it sounds great. Still needs to age a bit as most acoustics do, but I'm very pleased with it. The only reason I'm giving it 4.5 instead of 5 are the two smallest complaints ever... The sides seem to be narrower than a normal dred which took just a second to get used to, and it comes with a decent gig bag, but I wish it had a hardshell case. Seriously though, it's an amazing instrument. Just a couple things to be aware of before purchasing.

Martin D-16E Rosewood Acoustic-Electric

By John Puffinberger from CULPEPER, VA on June 8, 2022

I ordered this guitar and played it for about 5 minutes It has a very thin body not much sound for what you pay. It would be ok if you use the electronics but I'm a Bluegrass picker and I wan't the acoustic sound. Thanks John P.
