Pearl Roadster Multi-Core Gas Lift Drum Throne Reviews

Gas-lift Drum Throne with Round Seat, Aluminum Struts, and 19.5"-27.4" Height Range

Looking for luxury? The Pearl Roadster D1500RGL gas-lift drum throne's Multi-Core seat top consists of several layers of variable density foam to supply the right support where it's most needed. The D1500RGL sits on lightweight aluminum struts (rather than legs) to give you solid stability at a reduced carry weight. Height adjustment is accomplished in seconds using the D1500RGL's gas-lift pneumatic system, which makes settings recall a breeze. Even better, the Roadster D1500RGL accepts the optional DTBR1535 fully adjustable backrest (not included), which suits this throne to just about any player preference and setting on earth. Searching for comfort? You'll find it in the Pearl Roadster D1500RGL drum throne from Sweetwater.

A good throne, but it's no Roc-N-Soc

By Paul

I have a Roc-N-Soc throne (nitro gas, original saddle) and it's the most comfortable throne I've ever used. Recently though I've been trying to lighten my hardware bag so I thought I'd give the Pearl a try. Honestly, it doesn't feel much lighter at all, and the seat isn't as sturdy, it seems to rock around on the post a bit. It's also not as comfortable. I can sit on the Roc-N-Soc for hours, but not so with the Pearl, I'll need to stand up after a while. It's a good throne overall, fairly comfy and looks nice. I wouldn't turn my nose up at it, but it's not a Roc-N-Soc.

Comfortable But Constant Repair

By Chris from Ohio
Music Background: 38 years behind the kit. Professional musician since 2009.

After using a Roc N Soc throne for 26 years, I purchased the Roadster throne as its replacement. My main interest in it initially was Pearl describes (in great detail) the comfort and supportive nature of the seat itself, as opposed the only tout of "how sturdy it is", as many other companies do.

Although the seat (with the backrest) is exceedingly comfortable, even after hours of playing, the base of this throne is troublesome. On average, after 20 hours of performing, the base requires repairs of some sort to be made.

What happens is the tripod assembly loosens and the chair becomes extremely unstable. You're literally trying to balance on the center post that houses the hydraulic unit...which generally happens in the middle of your set.

The use of the Icon Rack vertical bar memory clamps to contain the tripod assembly is ludicrous. I am 5' 10" and 160 pounds. As of 2021, I have been playing for 38 years and typically perform around 110 shows a year. I've had the throne for 2 months and have had to "repair" the leg assembly approximately 12 times. The only permanent solution is to weld the tripod assembly to the center hydraulic unit pipe.

For those of us who need a throne to help cure back pain, thigh pain, or numbness, this works wonderfully. However, once you get it home and adjusted for your height and leg length, grab your welding helmet and get to work.

Amazing throne

By Sweetwater Customer

Love this throne, one of the best things I've purchased in years for my drumming. I'm also near 300lbs and it gives amazing comfort and stability.

Great upgrade to the original Roadster

By Bernard A. from Florida
Music Background: Drummer for over 30 years.

I have been playing on the Pearl Roadster D-1000N for many years...I have two of them that go between rehearsals and gigs. When I saw that pearl was upgrading the throne I said...why not, so will I. This Multi-Core seat is the most comfortable thing I have had the pleasure of sitting on in my career, so much so that when I went back to my old Roadster, the seat felt quite hard. The throne also feels really sturdy while banging away on the drums. No movement or swinging of the seat and feet stay firmly in place.

I have no complaints about this throne. I know that every drummer has his or her preference but I would definitely give this a try if you are in the market for a new throne.

Very pleased, what I was looking for.

By Sweetwater Customer from Cranberry Township, PA

I bought this to replace another throne I have which will remain unnamed, but was one of the ones that you screen the seat up and down to adjust the height and then lock it in place. Well, the lock never seemed to work and as I would play and swivel back and forward, the throne would keep going down in height. I tried everything on that one, including loctite on the screws that locked it in, but to no avail. So, went searching for something new. Very happy with this. Easy setup, just put the seat on the post and you're ready to roll. I was somewhat surprised, the diameter of the cushion is larger than I'm used to, probably about an inch more in diameter than the other three thrones I've had. It's a firm cushion, but very supportive, I actually like it. The hydraulics work perfectly and it's easy to adjust. There is a little give when you sit down but it doesn't bounce when I play. Overall, very satisfied. Offers firm support, just need to get used to seeing a larger cushion behind my kit, but I don't have any issues when I sit to play.
