One of the best kick microphone I have ever used
Great Kick Drum Mic
I've had this mic since 2020 and I love the way it performs. I like the mount on it a lot as well. It makes it easy to position and you don't have to worry about a separate clip. Even when I record studio stuff, I like this as my kick-in mic. If you're looking for a solid overall kick drum mic, then search no further. Get this one
Durable!
AKG D112 Bought my back in 1998 and am still using it today. Sounds great inside the kick drum! I flatten the mid range some and are good to good. I always get great compliments on the kick drum sound.
Gift
I bought this microphone as a gift but the recipient loves it and would highly recommend it to anybody.
Undisputed Champion of Kick Drum Mics
I've been a musician and touring FOH/Monitor engineer for 35 years. I've tried every kick drum mic you've ever heard of, and probably some you haven't. I always end up back where I started - with the D112. I know that other large diaphragm mics may have less "color" to their freq. response, but that's why I use the 112 - I know that I can get a solid kick sound up and running in seconds. Drop a bit of 300-400 hz, add a bit of 3K, and DONE. Plus, the thing is nearly indestructible. What more could I ask for from a mic I've used at probably 2,500 gigs over the decades? Nothing.
Soundgarden Kick Drum Sound
Sounds great with the Powerstroke 3
Fantastic Kick Mic
Have owned this mic for years and used it in the studio and for live sound. It just gives a fantastic thump for the kick, and you can't ask for a more durable mic. I would love to buy at least 3 more to use on the toms because they sound so good amplifying the low end!
Workhorse
Maybe there are better choices in the studio. Live? The D112 delivers just the right balance of low end and beater attack with minimal fuss. I don't like my kicks to have the modern typewriter clicky sound, but rather a more natural balance. The D112 is it for me. Other purpose built kick mics are either too dark or too artificially clicky. To my ears the D112 has the scoop in exactly the right place and it's not too much. There's a reason these are so popular. The new mount? Icing on the cake.
Is there another?
I am blown away that for 22 years the same fantastic mike, there is no other/
Killer
Killer mic for kick drum... great attack
It's a really legend
My Favorite
Recently I sold a bunch of gear that I no longer use and wanted to thin out my kick drum microphone collection. I have a vintage 70's sonor kit that I only use for recording so I pulled every kick drum mic I had and put them all to the test to keep only my top 2 favorites. I own everything from the telefunken m82, the u47 fet, the share beta 52 and many others. After two days of test tracking I kept the u47 get and this second version akg d112. I love a natural blues/rock kick thump and this mic delivers that classic studio punch! Highly recommended for studio work! I also love how they changed the xlr location, making the mic easier to position.
Great on Kick and Bass Amp
This mic rocks on any bass source. Beautifully clean reproduction of electric bass, kick drum, large auxiliary percussion, etc.
D112
Been using my 2nd one live for 15yrs. Someone stole the 1st one off the stage at the end of a gig. Tried everything else that I could afford, including some that were considerably higher cost. Nothing I have tried beats it for live or recording. Have used it on just about every instrument. It has been dropped at least 20 times, has hardly any paint left on it, and still functions perfectly. Glad to see the mic mount has been upgraded. That was the only thing they could improve on it.
