Awesome little amp!

By Jeremy Sampson from Lewisburg, WV on April 8, 2024 Music Background: Been playing for 30+ years; recording for 25 +/-

Just got this yesterday, & it's really good for the price & it's size. Also recorded one guitar track so far with it & pleased with the results. Normally I would always choose "black" if that color is an option. But for some reason the way the orange ones look just looks really cool too. But settled on black because a demo was available for a little less.
Also wanted to say this is only my 4th time buying from Sweetwater & I only regret that I only started dealing with them recently because they are amazing.

Awesome little amp!!

By John Elliott from Fuquay-Varina, NC on November 20, 2021 Music Background: gigging and touring in the past, now just for pleasure at home

This amp has a sound much bigger than it's speaker size or wattage rating. The tones, once tweaked to taste were exactly what I wanted to layer into my rig. Definitely a solid state vibe, but it's warmer and more organic than anything else in its class, to be honest. The Rocker preamp architecture is spot-on, and it definitely cops that Beta Lead vibe I was after, but at much lower (and more manageable) volume levels. Value for the money? Can't really beat it. Thanks to Jacob, as always, for the top-notch service and advice. He's really awesome, and I recommend him to anyone.

Awesome practice amp

Love this amp!! Great for indoor use and if you're on a budget. It's simple and gets the job done without all that unnecessary digital stuff.

Does the job Does it very well

When it comes to amps I have a very simple philosophy, if I can plug right into the amp and get a great clean and get a great distortion then I'm sold and this amp delivers. Gain channel goes full shred metal when turned up.
This little thing gets loud.

I just moved into a new apartment so I needed something sensible for that environment. I'm a really simple person when it comes to amps. If you can plug in and play and the amp sounds great, I'm sold. And this amp certainly delivers on that aspect. Clean channel sounds great and distortion channel goes full shred with the gain cranked if you're a metal player. The black amp with orange logo on front looks classy.
Oh and don't let 20 watts and the small size full you this little thing gets LOUD!!! I highly recommend this amp if you're in an apartment or just need a small practice amp. It does all styles and does them very well.

Great Little Amp!

By Rich from PA on October 29, 2016

I was recently turned onto Orange Amps by coming across a used Tiny Terror, and have kind of fallen in love with them. I was looking for a new "living room" practice amp, and after watching some Sweetwater youtube demos and talking with my service rep Nate, this was my choice. Sounds very cliche', but seriously, for this price, I don't think that there is a better option for a 1x8 amp. I went with the basic 20 because, while I'm sure if I had went with the 20RT I may have liked it, but quite honestly I have zero interest or need for a tuner on my amp. It's absolutely perfect for practice situations.....the clean and dirty channels let you dial in a wide variety of sounds and tones without having to worry about hooking up your pedal board, or run your pedal rig thru it and get your perfect sound. I've only messed around with this amp in the house so far, but I honestly wouldn't even be against using it at a small gig situation.

good amp.

my new Amp just got in today, this amp is grate for practice our for small gigs. Great for bed room work and the headphones sound grate. If you are looking for a grate sounding amp for any type of music this is it, don't let the 8inch speaker run you off.

Great Practice Amp!

By Carl from Texas on January 14, 2019 Music Background: Beginner Guitarist

I began learning to play the guitar a little over a year ago, and had purchased one of those small vox amplug amps that was a pretty good little amp to get me started until I dropped it and it broke. That is when my search for a new amp began. I watched numerous videos on the internet and read a plethora of reviews but no amp really stood out. Being the indecisive person I am, I spent a grand total of 8 months deciding on an amp. Eventually I came across this Orange Crush 20 and fell in love with it. It was a nice middle ground for me. It offered the great tones I was looking for, but in a size that wasn"t too big for my small bedroom. I"ve spent a few weeks playing with it and finding the settings I like and it is very easy to use. Being a beginner, I was looking for an amp that is simple and this amp fills that criteria well. Now, even though it is simple to use, it still has a lot of features to play with. It has a clean and dirty channel along with treble, middle, and bass EQ knobs to tweak your tone however you like. It has nice gain and more than enough volume for a bedroom player. I never move the volume knob over the third notch. Also, the tones you can get from this amp are great. It has nice warm cleans and plenty of gain. I want to thank my sales engineer Matt McGowen for helping me with my decision process. He offered me great advice and suggestions and because of his awesome support I knew Sweetwater was the place I wanted to buy my guitar gear from now on.

Great on it's own

By Rey Mysterio on July 18, 2017

For a long time I always believed owning and playing a bigger meant having better tone and playability. That is no longer the case. I've played through big and small amps. Tubes and solid states. And tiny little amp is a lot of fun, delivers good tone and no bleeding wallets. It's enough to play at home or with friends. It's good, very solid. Doesn't deliver much 'loud' but for the price and tone it's good. The only drawbacks being it doesn't take drive pedals really well. EQ'ing will take time to adjust to the right settings. 'Dirty' channel could be better but it's not for everyone. It provides the 'unique' sound that Orange gives in a small-cheaper package. For a solid state it's great! I've had a Marshall MG..and considered a MG15CF before buying this. And I have no regrets just sounds great. Clean, dirty..2 channels that's it. Footswitch is also available but not always necessary. The only drawback to this amp is that while it gives great clean and dirty tones..it does not benefit from have effect running into it. It didn't matter what I plugged into (specifically drives) it doesn't sound that good. OD pedal just increased volume. Distortion only made it sound unpleasant. As for wah and other effects this amp works just fine! Just a warning if you're a pedal owner hoping to plug pedals into this I wouldn't recommend it. Amp is great on it's own!

A truly good amp

By Matt from Chicago area on July 3, 2016 Music Background: 20+ years playing and recording

I don't know the specs on the smaller speakers that are being used in some amps these days. All I can say is that they are sounding better and better. The 8" speaker in this Orange has enough low end to make me very happy in my basement use. I have a pair of them that I use in stereo.

The clean channel takes pedals brilliantly. That's all I bought it for. But the Orange drive channel rocks very hard, too. And the speaker emulated headphone out is one of the better I have tried. I honestly don't know what people obsess over big amps any more. The range of great sounding small amps is unlike anything I've seen in my 20+ years of playing - and this is a great, simple (all analog, no menus) new entry.

Again, the clean channel on these amps is great for using with a series of drive, distortion, or fuzz pedals, if that's where you like to get your tonal variety.

David at Sweetwater was great as usual - quick, friendly, professional service.

Great practice amp

By Gary from The Shed on April 22, 2015 Music Background: Digger of music

The clean channel is sparkly and great. The dirty channel is filthy and makes you want to take a bath. The reverb is pretty good and the tuner is handy. Sounds great with pedals going through it. Great Orange tone all over this guy. Perfect for those who need something a bit smaller but doesn't sacrifice tone. It's the first Orange amp I've ever owned but it won't be the last.

Undersized speaker for amp wattage

By Sweetwater Customer on May 18, 2016

I had high expectations for this little amp based on other reviews and online demos but find it pretty much unusable past 3 or 4 notches on the volume knob. Past that the sound really breaks up and distorts. I think a 20-watt power amp for a small 8" speaker encased in a small closed back cabinet was a bad design choice.
