Cooperstand Pro-Tandem Double Guitar Stand - African Sapele Reviews

Double Guitar Stand with African Sapele Hardwood Construction

Fabricated from sustainable, solid, kiln-dried African sapele hardwood, the stage-ready Cooperstand Pro-Tandem guitar stand supports a large variety of instruments, one or two at a time, safely and securely. This classy-looking guitar stand takes up little floor real estate when you're using it, and it looks great onstage. At Sweetwater, we've used the Cooperstand Pro-Tandem guitar stand to hold electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, and more.

Great / Simple Stand for two Axes

By Sweetwater Customer

Handsome and functional - does what it's supposed to do, with a tiny footprint and pretty aesthetics.

Wonderful design

By Eric R. from Lincoln Park, Chicago

My girlfriend bought this stand for me as a birthday gift almost 2 years ago now. Surprisingly sturdy for its compact size. It looks great and and I love that I am able to store both my Martin 000-15M and Gibson Les Paul without worrying about them tipping over.

Great, as long as you aren't playing a Thunderbird / Explorer style

By Thomas W. from Beaver Falls, PA
Music Background: Anything but country

Didn't think about this until after I bought it, but this guitar stand doesn't help if you have you have an instrument with a more extreme shape at the bottom. My bass collection includes a Sandberg Forty-Eight (T-bird style body) and a Meteora-style bass. Neither of them will sit on this stand.
Mind you, I probably could have figured that out if I looked at the design.
But for almost all other guitars and basses, this is an awesome stand. Super sturdy, folds up and fits in your bag, and is legitimately beautiful. It's functional artwork.

Best stand for gigging!

By Sweetwater Customer

I've broken probably close to 20 cheap guitar stands over the years from wear and tear taking them to gigs. Not only is this stand the most compact and easiest to pack in and out at gigs but it's also still looking brand new after two years and close to 450 gigs! Highly reccomend!

Very good, but not outright excellent stand. Perhaps a bit overpriced for the quality.

By Nate from USA
Music Background: Part-time gigging keyboardist, guitarist, bassist, playing originals in local rock bands

The sapele version of the Cooperstand Pro-Tandem is one of the most gorgeous instrument stands I have ever seen. Unfortunately, its other aspects range from good to merely so-so.

The construction quality is not perfect. The folding mechanism feels a bit finicky, and the movement of the folding feels intangibly cheap - not the impression I expected to get from a stand of this price range. It made me concerned that it may not hold up to repeated use. If you plan on keeping the stand in one place, this is not at all a concern. But if you plan on using its excellent portability, it is a potential factor to be aware of, prior to purchasing.

The portability, overall, is wonderful. However, if you plan on bringing it to any rehearsal or other practice environments in a gigbag, you may wish to measure your gigbag's pockets first, as the stand is longer than you may be envisioning.

The biggest flaw in my viewpoint is the grip material lining. Some of it consists of a hard, yet smooth rubberized material, which both cushions your instrument and protects the beautiful wood of the stand. However, other parts of the lining is a softer foam material, which I discovered ripped at the slightest provocation, within mere days of obtaining the item. I have depicted this in my first image. If ever a Pro-Tandem 2.0 is released, the material should be updated to all be harder rubber, rather than the flimsy foam.

The last concern has to do with the form of the stand. This stand is really quite low to the ground. Some guitars with more rounded body bottoms can actually hit the floor through the middle of the stand. If you have a more flattened body bottom, such as the strat shape I have depicted in my image, you'll be fine. However, a friend's instrument with a very round 7/8 size LP-style body was found to scrape against the floor - and that's not evening getting into less-traditional body shapes. That having been said, if you have a sense of humor, you can technically get a Strandberg to fit there, if you angle it right, and aren't worried about bumping into it. This silly setup is depicted in my second image.

If this retailed for $60 or it lacked design limitations which I outlined, I'd say that everyone with more than one guitar should treat themselves to go out and buy this lovely-looking artpiece in a heartbeat. Otherwise, consider your needs and determine if this is the right product for you.

Portable Stand

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a very well made stand, well thought out, and crafted. This stand is very compact.
I was looking for a well made product that wouldnt junk up the room (wife's orders). Looks great in all areas.
It functions as advertised, guitars seem to be happy.

Best option I could find

By Sweetwater Customer

I had been looking to lighten my load from carrying 2 guitars, amp, pedal board, and a gig bag with a few odds and ends. Mostly to carry a 2 guitar stand. I play at church and having to make 3 trips at the age of 60 can be exhausting, especially in the WNY snow! By changing a few things around I was able to put this in my helix road case saving one bag to carry. I was skeptical about how sturdy it would be, I play a 335 and L-00 so if it were to fail, I have a large investment to be damaged, not to mention my prized possessions. After receiving it I was really impressed. I also do woodworking as a hobby and after giving it a good once over was confident with its ability. I have used it on a dozen or so performances now and it is fantastic! Beautifully made and easy to use. I would highly recommend it. The only negative I read about it was that the wood could split if in were stepped on or abused. Neither of which applies to my situation. If one were available in composite, that might be the better choice but I am pleased with my purchase and would do so again.

Beautiful stand that meets the need!

By Dana W. from Belfast, Maine
Music Background: Vocalist, rhythm guitar, ukulele player in amateur bands

I purchased this stand primarily to use with my Kala tenor and Ohana six string ukuleles. The construction is truly innovative, the quality of construction is excellent, it has a small footprint, it folds flat for travel, and it's attractive. This replaced two metal guitar stands I was using, which were cumbersome and took time to assemble at each rehearsal and performance. The Cooperstand Pro-Tandem is ready to use in seconds.

The stand is built to accommodate a range of sizes of instruments, which was another reason for my purchase. I have guitars that I also can use with the stand. It works well with both my Yamaha classical guitar and my Mosrite Celebrity III hollow body electric guitar. The stand handles the various weight, depth, and height of the instruments beautifully and safely.

I've given a 4.5 rating at this time because I'm still teasing out a stable positioning of the ukes. The larger instruments seem to seat more easily and with greater stability. The ukes take more time to find the right position, and the lightness of the instrument makes their positioning seem less firm.

All in all, though, I'm delighted with my purchase. It's much easier than dealing with traditional stands, both with setup and portability, and I couldn't be happier about the quality.

Happy Gibsons

By Bud T. from Nashville/Clearwater FL
Music Background: Pro writer

I own 4 single Cooper stands that I have been gigging with for years. But, I have never used them at home (due to clumsy dogs hanging out in studio). But I bought this double stand thinking that, given its larger footprint, it might be more stable. And... (drumroll), it is!

Perfect for my L-OO Pro and B-25.

Fabulous build quality and overall functionality.

BTW, been dealing with Sweetwater (and Ryan Murphy) for more than a decade. They are the best. Their follow-up and tech support have saved my arse on many occasions.

VERY Nice Stand!

By Teejay R. from Lisle, IL
Music Background: Vast, Varied, and Variegated

I am thinking, as I write this, and thinking and thinking about "should I give it 4.5 stars instead of Five?!" But I won't. Because:

* Out of maybe a dozen stands that I own, this is my second- favorite. [My favorite is a $175 custom rigid stand that stays in my studio, and is a completely-different class than a portable, folding guitar stand... So any comparison here is unfair].
* "Golly! Seventy five bucks is a lot to pay for a frappin' guitar stand!" Yes, it is. But you can find VASTLY-inferior dual stands for $60. C'mon, spend fifteen bucks more, and smile every time you open this up. Then smile some more when your acoustic, or electric, or bass, or uke, or mandolin, or baglama, or bouzouki, or dulcimer.... NEVER FALLS OFF. Then, smile some more, when people walk up and compliment you on your instruments, and then shake their heads and say. Hey! That's a cool stand, too!"

Do you do 2-instrument open mics, or gigs,or get-togetherness, or jams, or gatherings, or beach playing, or street-corner shows, or... ? If yes, get this, it's really, really nice!.

We're in this trade because we despise recognition, right?

You see where I'm going with this. Spend seventy five bucks, and get a stand that'll bring you joy for as long as you're alive. It's built that way, too - it'll be here after we aren't. Will it to your great grandkids. :)

Cooperstand Pro-Tandem

By Darcy D. from MI
Music Background: Professional Guitarist

The Cooperstand Pro-Tandem is a wonderful guitar stand.
I love that it holds 2 guitars at the same time and I can just switch guitars easily between songs.
This stand does not take up much room on the stage and is very sturdy.
Also, the stand displays your beautiful guitars nicely.
I highly recommend this stand for the professional guitarist, as it does an incredible job in keeping my guitars in accessible reach.
