Compact, Great Sound

Excellent PC speakers for day-to-day audio. Definitely hold up to the name and reputation Bose has built for their audio products.

Typical Bose quality and phenomenal sound

By Stephen from Colorado on February 5, 2021

I've long enjoyed listening to Bose products because of the amazing sound they produce, usually in a small package. The Companion 2 desktop speakers I got for my laptop haven't disappointed.

Can't beat the quality for the price point!

By Deb from Tennessee on November 18, 2020 Music Background: Brass instruments

I was truly amazed when I first heard these speakers. They give you a full range of sound, plus the depth of sound is incredible for speakers of this size and price. They are better than any other computer speakers I've ever purchased, and I'm delighted to have them to play music while I work. I would highly recommend them!

Really Nice For The Price

By Sweetwater Customer on August 28, 2020

Hearing is believing.
I bought these to replace my 2.1 speakers that finally quit on me.
My concerns were that at the low price the quality would also be low and that I would miss the bass that I enjoy. Wrong on both counts.
The quality is very good. The sound range is also good. Best of all, for me, is the bonus that the speakers while tall are just short enough to sit on my computer table under my first shelf out of the way.
I count this as my best purchase of anything so far this year.

Exceeds expectations

By Ron B from Western Massachusetts on August 8, 2020 Music Background: Jazz and R&B also pop and rock

I listened to a display set of the original Companion 2 in a store years ago and thought they were pretty decent. I planned on upgrading and thought these might be what I would get when I move up from my Altecs – which weren't bad but lacked any real bass.

When I swapped the Altecs out today for these Series III Bose, I was astonished. Not only is the low end impressive, but the articulation and clarity all the way up the frequency spectrum is fabulous. Very happy with both Bose and Sweetwater's fast and attentive service.

Great compact speakers

By Sweetwater Customer on June 3, 2020

Great compact size and nice clean looking speakers. Definitely not as full a sound as my previous setup with a separate subwoofer, but still a nice sounding set of speakers. I appreciate the fact that I no longer have the sub on my floor along with all of the extra wiring. I also appreciate the volume control being integrated right on the front of the speaker. My previous speaker setup always had a background hum/hiss. These new speakers are totally silent.

holy crap!

Great Desktop Speakers!!

By Ian on February 10, 2020 Music Background: Composer, Performer, Graduate Student

As others have already said, these are amazing speakers for the price! They are compact enough to fit on any desk and they produce a crystal-clear, deep sound in which the bass is prominent but not overbearing. These speakers can also produce a HUGE sound for their size with clarity of sound never suffering. I've been using these speakers for a good year and a half pretty much every day, and they work like new. I've tried several other brands of desktop speakers and nothing really compares to these.

Great Desktop Speakers

By Landon on September 11, 2019 Music Background: HOW FOH Engineer/Drums

I bought these because the two Pioneer 3-way 12" speakers and Magnavox head were taking up too much space in my office and I didn't need that much SPL. In all honesty, I didn't have very high expectations since these are such small speakers and low-cost; however, I was pleasantly surprised.

Out of the box, the TrueSpace DSP isn't the best -- sounding a little compressed with streaming rock music; however, with my SoundBlaster Play 2 USB card, it really woke these little speakers up! All of the voices and instruments sit nicely where they need to be. The soundstage is really quite good, and deserving of the Bose name.

So too, with good source material, I noticed the internal DSP being sufficient; however, if you're like me, you'd probably want an external DSP -- or at the very least, EQ. With some DSP love, these little boxes sound great! I really don't know if the internal DSP on these is getting enough juice since TrueSpace is the same DSP Bose uses on pretty much everything.

In conclusion, you're not going to find a better box at this price point. If you want computer speakers that sound bigger than they are, get these. While I was a little hard on the DSP, I still give these 5 stars since there are so many great aftermarket DSPs that can allow these to shine. Also, they appear to be the same drivers as the highly acclaimed Bose Waveguide stereos, and they sound like it. I highly recommend these!

Great Speakers!

Great speakers for the price...! Deep bass and sweet mids and highs! And, the service from Sweetwater is the best!

Tiny box BIG sound

Thought I was buying something to just make do with. Was blown away by the big full sound. Very happy I pulled the trigger on purchasing these.

One word... WOW!

By Christopher Sanderson from Pasadena, CA on March 14, 2019 Music Background: Hip-Hop/Rap Producer

First of all, I just want to say I'm upset with Sweetwater. Im upset because the highest rating you can give a product on their site is 5 stars. Everyone knows that when you're dealing with Bose it's 10-stars and up! Just kidding... Sweetwater did a great job! Everyone knows their Customer Service is second to none.
The speaker sounds phenomenal! But what makes these different from other Bose products is their price… So to get SPEAKERS for only $... from Bose is a steal!
Second, the Auxiliary Line In & Headphone Features are simple, but great additions to any computer speaker. I do however wish they had Bluetooth too, but I guess that's pushing it.
Last, I called these speakers "Mini-Boomboxes" and deservedly so! No need for an additional subwoofer or your typical 2.1 Computer Speaker Setup, these sub just fine. If you look at the picture of the back of the speaker, you'll see a small bass port (or a hole) that I guess the built-in subwoofer plays through.

You can never go wrong with a Bose Product.

10 Stars!!

Amazing Little Package

By David from CA on July 16, 2018 Music Background: Singer/songwriter, Church musician, recording hobbyist

The response of these is amazing! While not hyped, they have a full range: deep bass tones and accurate high tones. GREAT deal for this quality at this price. A big upgrade from regular computer speakers.

Awesome Computer Speakers

By James A. Gill III from CT on February 24, 2018 Music Background: Former Disc Jockey

I bought these for my computer (duh) and BOSE does it again. The sound is great and realistic. I was replacing an old speaker system and boy, am I glad. These do the job wonderfully. Don't hesitate to buy into the Bose sound. It rocks. An added bonus is Sweetwater stands behind them.

Bose still does it right

By James or Cindy Mallien from St Petersburg, FL on January 6, 2018

Bose small computer speakers: When you take them out of the box you feel it. Hefty. Serious business. Tested it right away to hear the bass which is usually the worst in little computer speakers half the size of most subwoofers. I'd give it a "impressive for computer speakers" and overall impressive sound dynamics, better volume range than most. In short, these aren't little computer speakers. These are Bose speakers. Period.

bose companion 2 speakers

By GARY ALLEN from CARSON CITY, NEVADA on September 14, 2017 Music Background: LIFETIME PRO MUSICIAN

I decided to try these speakers as music backup for my guitar solo act in a first-class restaurant in lake Tahoe because of the rooms policy of low-volume but high quality mood music. The larger speakers that I have been using were too much for the room no matter how low I set the volume. These tiny speakers were the perfect answer as I can use them close to my ears and yet still be heard by the room with just the right mix of bass and high end while moving from track to track. With my guitar playing through a separate miniamp, I have very good control of my sound and a smaller, lighter setup than ever before with no compromise on quality. Thank you, thank you , thank you for a great product.

Great Find

By Ted Hougan from CA on August 24, 2017

I bought these for my television, no more amplifier and speakers. Nice and compact. When I seen the speakers out of the box I was pretty skeptical but I put on some music adjusted the EQ on my T.V cranked em up and Wow they sounded so great. They sound good just watching a movie, but when you play music through them that's when they really shine. Great find!

Awesome Desktop Speakers

By Keith Maldonado from Glendale, AZ on July 14, 2017 Music Background: Sound Production/Engineering

These speakers are fantastic! They have incredible sound range for their small size! Plenty of bass without a bass module (they don't come with or need it)...

I've read other reviews of too much bass and treble etc. My answer is quite simple... You don't know how to adjust these levels through your device (computer, iPod, iPad etc.)? No way I blame the speakers... Personally, I love the sound and their size! I like them so much, I bought an additional set for my daughter. Definitely a recommended item!

The small speakers with a big sound!

By Duane Matthes from Columbiana, OH on June 26, 2017 Music Background: Assistant Engineer at Wall of Shadows Studio and Session Bass Player.

I now see why the people that rave about Bose speakers make all the fuss. These things sound great! Don't get me wrong now. They won't compare to a multi thousand dollar hifi system but as far as computer speakers go they blow everything else out of the water in their price range.

You seriously need to spend a lot more cash to get anything better. I'm using the ones I purchased to replace a worn out multimedia system that's hooked to my laptop. I'm not using them in the studio. However I see where they could be useful to check a mix.

For the most part these speakers are rather neutral sounding. The highs are clear without any harshness. The low end is what really surprised me. I thought I'd need a sub but I was proven wrong. For their size they reproduce decent bass down to about 60 hz and I don't find myself missing my sub. While the low end is full don't expect chest thumping bass though.

The midrange is the only thing that got a little weird on these. They are maybe just a little pushed forward in the mids with a little bump in the 1-3k range but I can pass that off to their positioning in my case and the crappy on board sound card in my laptop for that matter. It's nothing that a bit of EQ couldn't take care of.

I have no complaints about they way they are built and for once a manufacture actually used a quality volume pot with a power switch built in! There is even a aux in for your MP3/CD player and a headphone out in the right side speaker. They even come with all the cables to hook them up too. What a nice little listening system.

These sure beat the heck out of the cheap run of the mill multimedia systems you find at your local chain store. I'd love to check out the rest of the Bose product line. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a honest and great sounding playback system for pleasure listening. These sound great!

Little Big Speakers

By Gary Farrar from MO on June 9, 2017

I got these for my flat screen TV...completely changed the viewing experience...fills the room with high quality sound. The headphone jack is a great plus, as they make headphones sound richer and fuller as well. Hard to believe such sound from a small and indiscrete speaker.

These are PERFECT for the small studio

By Jim Bouchard from Brunswick, ME on March 27, 2017

I was a little skeptical. I should learn not to doubt anything Bose.

The low price point is what made me a bit leery. I listened to a bunch of dedicated studio monitors near this price and decided that for the money, if they didn't live up to expectations, I'd just find another use for them.

As with all Bose speakers, they have a tremendous range and for their size, remarkable bass. What is really cool is that they produce a nice range even at low volume. I'm not condemned to the headphones for some late night finish work.

Expect to use an adapter if you're using a board for your computer audio. These have a standard 3.5 mm stereo jack instead of RCA or 1/4 inch L/R inputs.

Great deal. I'm buying another pair.

Excellent service and price

The product price was in line with Amazon Prime but no sales tax and free delivery made the difference. Received my order on time as promissed and in perfect condition - very happy!

These Will Work

By Sweetwater Customer on March 3, 2017

These little killers work great. I play dvds through my computer an with a projector on outdoors movie parties and these do work very well. Not so loud to disturb others but loud enough get a surround sound going out doors it's crazy cool.

Multimeter Speakers

By Tom Long from Alabama on September 14, 2016

They sound as good as my old JBL studio monitors. They are perfect for playing backing tracks.

Simple, NOT Simplistic

By FRANCISCO PRADO from BROOKLYN, NY on October 28, 2015

As the other reviewers mentioned, these speakers are great for those who are looking for accurate sound with a "No-nonsense" approach in a compact size. Yes they are small (But pack more than enough sound) and that sound is crystal clear without coloring or distortion. Living in a small NY apartment I can't use or take advantage of studio sized active monitors, but I still need my speakers to be capable of projecting accurate sound. For the price and the audio quality these are great. As always, Bob Mondok, my Sweetwater contact made sure I had these in no time and his assistance was key in my decision on coming back to Sweetwater as not only are their prices the best, their customer support is unrivaled!

PC Speakers

By Willie Z. from Indiana on May 28, 2020

Haven't pushed them too hard yet as they are just being used as PC speakers - but for that purpose they are definitely worth the price. Clear well-defined sound, unobtrusive size.

Lovin the Bose!

Bose Companion 2

Very happy with purchase. Great sound, I was pleasantly shocked at how good they sound even without a subwoofer. Definitely a step up on computer speakers.

Boom

Great sound quality and volume for speakers of this size and cost. Well designed as well, with the main volume control and headphone jack on the front and easy to access.

Great for what I need.

Easy to hook up. Good sound. Not a lot of base.

When Accuracy Matters

By Paul Hooper from New Orleans on July 10, 2015 Music Background: Jingle/Radio Ad Producer

I was looking for small-footprint, near-field, desktop monitors that could faithfully reproduce (almost) all of the frequencies of the music I had just meticulously produced. I neither needed, nor wanted, wall-shaking bass or any other artificial coloration of the sound that so many manufacturers actually brag about. As a jingle producer, it's critical that I be able to hear exactly what is in the tracks, nothing more, nothing less.

The Bose Companion 2 speakers do an wonderful job of giving me a clean, accurate and pristine representation of the music and vocals present in the products that go out under my name.

If I had to make one suggestion to Bose, it would be to pack a bit more power into the amplifier, but without compromising sound quality.

If accuracy matters to you, I can wholeheartedly recommend these guys.

Sound Great for their size

Must say they have saved my some time

Decent desktop speakers

By Seth on June 6, 2017 Music Background: Bassist, recording engineer.

These little guys sound great for the price. I use em to check mixes as. They are shielded and are great for everyday use.

Great Computer Speakers

By Joshua from Monterey, CA on January 24, 2017 Music Background: Engineer

These are great speakers for just listening to audio on your computer. They've lasted me about two years now.

I would never use them for mixing, as they're not designed to sound accurate (nor are they), they're very boxy/bassy, and have pretty much no mids. Not flat or transparent sounding in any way. But that said, they're very good for just computer speakers.

They may work also as a side-reference, just to see how your mixes translate to lower quality computer systems and speakers.

works great

There's an issue with physics here.

By The Dude from IN on January 1, 2019 Music Background: Professional Mixing engineer, Composer, Film Critic

I have about a decade of experience mixing, and even more experience listening to music on high end speakers.

These monitors really sound good/are transparent with simpler mixes, like voiceover, acoustic guitar and vocal, or piano and vocal, maybe one or two more instruments that aren't bass heavy...

They do not translate well at all when you start going beyond that. Once the bass guitar and drums come in, the low end gets squashed and the mid-range gets sucked into this dense wall of sound that is just awful.

All in all, I am very underwhelmed and honestly surprised - Bose usually does well with their products. Even as basic listening monitors for most music, or as computer/TV speakers for video games and movies, these do not impress me at all. I guess physics really do matter (unless you're iLoud - Check out the iLoud Micro Monitors).

Great for Rock, - Classical,......maybe not so much.

By Sweetwater Customer on November 3, 2020

Title is pretty much my review. I also hoped they might be able to go a bit louder. Perhaps my naiveté about what one can expect from laptop speakers. Not seeing any stats on their power.

way too much 100Hz bass

By Sweetwater Customer on January 10, 2019

How can anyone say that these speakers are good for music? In a small room they have extreme amounts of bass. I mean, they really have A LOT OF BASS. In a big room they are ok, but have no sub-low at all ( < 60Hz). I returned these speakers after one week of testing them.
The mids and highs are good, but the crazy amounts of 100Hz bass ruin it all.

Too bassy.

By Chris Ochoa from El Paso, TX on February 11, 2016

These are great for anything else other than listening to music. They have way too much bass to be enjoyable. DO NOT get these for recording any kind of music.
