Electro-Harmonix Cock Fight Plus Cocked Talking Wah and Fuzz Pedal Reviews

Wah/Fuzz Effects Pedal for Electric Guitar, with Wah and Talking Wah Modes

The Electro-Harmonix Cock Fight Plus builds on the acclaim of the original Cock Fight wah/fuzz pedal, putting it in a familiar wah pedal housing and retaining its epic tone. With two distinct filter types — wah and talking wah — plus a vivacious fuzz circuit with bias control, the Cock Fight Plus is three effects in one. Put the fuzz effect after the filter for classic rock tones, or before the wah filter for synth-style tones. Or disengage the fuzz completely for some of the cleanest, most vibrant filter and wah effects you've ever heard. Whether you park it for cocked-wah tones, or work it for maximum expression, guitarists at Sweetwater agree: the Electro-Harmonix Cock Fight Plus wah/fuzz pedal is sure to inspire.

Sounds great!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional guitarist

This pedal is very versatile and sounds great! Every sound Is useful! My only problem is that compared to any other Wah pedal that I've owned is feels cheap. The trade off is that it's light and doesn't weigh your pedalboard down. Wah and owww…. And fuzz! In one package!

Very cool sounds

By Randal B. from DAYTON, OH
Music Background: played guitar since about 1970

Bought this a few months ago for use in a home studio and completely happy with the sound and quality of build. I understand that it is not cast iron and unbreakable but nothing is. Wide variety of sounds are possible and with minimal noise. I like that it has a battery or external power option. The small knobs are difficult or impossible to use in a live situation but I don't do that and as with any foot pedal I would hate to stand on my head in the middle of a song to change settings. Here is a clean loop playing while I trey most of the effect changes.

Swiss Army Wah

By Will C. from Wilmington, DE
Music Background: Carpenter that has been playing and recording noise on tape since the mid 80’s.

Now this is definitely not the best wah I have used but it may be my favorite now.
I absolutely love the fuzz on it and wish it was able to be used independently of the wah.

I probably will open it up and it probably isn't too difficult to get the fuzz to work on its own and another mini switch added to the side won't hurt.

The voice setting is nice but not something I would use too often.
The travel is fine and it takes a bit of pressure to turn off and on which I prefer on a wah.

The housing is some sort of glass or fiber reinforced nylon so it is pretty lightweight.
I find this to be a plus. I have seen people complain about this but this stuff is really tough.

All in all I am happy with this pedal with the silly name. EHX continues to provide interesting and innovative effects.

WEAK!

By Big h. from Hamilton NJ
Music Background: Professional guitarist 40+ years

As many others have stated below in the reviews. I wanted to love this thing but it is WEAK at best for what it does. I as well bought this based on the video demo and thought it sounded great.

So disappointed in its performance and sound. I own many wahs. Cry baby, Morley bad horsie, ibanez, slash Wah power Wah and now this Ehx paper weight.

I own many Ehx effects as well and I am very happy with them. But this Wah is a disappointing dud!

I have to say in my 40+ years of playing I would not suggest anyone to buy this. The demo video is very impressive until you get it home and realize you purchased snake oil

Interesting But...

By JoshU from Detroit Metro Area
Music Background: Semi-Professional (read: bar-band axe slinger)

Was looking for a replacement wah for my Crybaby Mini.

Bought this one and demo'd it for a couple of days. While it sounds great and has a better sweep than a mini wah, the side controls and switches are very small and are PCB mounted. Meaning, they can break off way too easy. For durability sake, I wouldn't trust this outside home or a studio. Even if mounted to a pedal board, it would be hard to adjust the controls.

The Talk-Wah function, while demo's seem really cool, its not as easy as it seems to use it. The sweep has to be in a sweet spot for it to be noticable and tastful.

While I'm sure many will love this wah, I dropped it down a couple of stars because its durability is in question as is its ease of use. Its a great idea, but I'm not certain about its execution.

Consensus Is...

By Joseph B. from Maryland
Music Background: 45 years of bedroom kingary.

Pro's: It's EHX made, it sounds good, it does many things. Thanx EHX.

Con's: It's EHX made, it would sound better if it were to cost $59.98, what it does do it does it on a mediocre level, and it feels as if EHX mated with Behringer for the construction.

Conclusion: Buy it , don't buy it.

I like it in general but the talking effect sweep is wrong! Needs fixing in v2. And how about fuzz only? Please?

By Steve R. from Totnes
Music Background: Guitarist since before you were born!

A useful wah and fuzz-wah and very good value for money considering all the possible sounds and variations.
Fuzz works fine, although it's not as fierce as a Fuzz Face or Tone Bender - which is fair enough, since EHX are the Big Muff people.
The switch that routes the fuzz "before or after" is very useful.
All the knobs make meaningful adjustments, which is great - they are all well calibrated.
Wah is good - cleaner treble end than my previous cheap, slightly distorting Daphon wah, it sounds quite like the classic Cry Baby we all love.

One major problem with the functionality: the sweep of the pedal is not calibrated correctly for the talking effect - it has a very small effective window of usefulness about 2/3 of the way forward. Perhaps this is what you get when the 2 effects share only 1 pot? In which case I would much rather have paid more for them to each have their own pot.

A big hint to EHX which I am sure I am not alone in: I would really like it to be possible to have the fuzz on and the wah/talk off! It sounds like it would be a nice fuzz -especially with the "starved battery" option - but it's tantalising because you can't try it out without the wah/talk and find out.

Not evn close

By Bob from Eagle Mountain, Utah
Music Background: over 50 years a player

Zero Stars...... Was looking to get a nice wah and stumbled across this one. I have several EHX pedals and they are incredible, the Epitome being the best. But this one seems like too much of an afterthought and is just poor.... 1. WAY too much noise, I mean, it felt like it was from the late 60s or early 70s noisy... 2. The throw of the pedal is not very linear. Just as I would be getting close to a sound that I wanted to set, it would go way above that point.... 3. The overdrive in the unit was also noisy. I would like to see them take that OD as it sounded cool until it was cranked, and put it into its own pedal... Will helped me out in exchanging it for a Cry Baby and I look forward to receiving that smooth wah. Thanks Will

Versitile

By Bobby from OKC

A lot of usable sounds to be found, Fuzz/wah is a great combo and this all in one pedal can be an excellent addition to anyone's board. Have been trying it before and after other drive and fuzz pedals and it has a unique sound in both locations. Maybe i need two. Enough tweeks available that anyone should be able to find a tone they like. The fuzz sound itself is ok but with the right cocked position it can be used in its own. Overall a good product for the price.

Hendrix and Walsh all in one

By Roger C. from NY

Love this pedal! The wah effect is a great classic wah ala Hendrix or Cream. The fuzz is meaty, but not the typical wall of noise I hear in so many others and the talking version can easily pull off Rocky Mtn Way or Man in the Box. Try it or buy it, you won't be disappointed either way.

Not as good as advertised

By Rich from Palm Springs
Music Background: 55 years

I watched the manufactures video of this product and was thoroughly impressed. However, in reality it doesn"t sound as good in person as it does in the video. The wah function is marginally good, same for the overdrive, but the talking wah function sounds nothing like it does in the video. If you ever want to extract a confession out of someone, tie them up and make them listen to the dead battery sound. This is the typical example of one product trying to be good at everything but only being marginally good at any one of them.

Wanted to Love It

By Billy H. from Nashville
Music Background: 45 years plus on guitar (that

I have old wahs, digital wahs and really are into the wah sound lately. I saw this and jumped on it. Out of the box it just wasn't doing it for me. I was going to send it back but opted not to. So what's the verdict after a few months? I still don't like it! Maybe it's all the plastic but really I just don't "feel" the wah when playing. I wish I would have spent my money on something else...but I'm still hoping to like it one day.

Don't believe the naysayers!

By Dan J. from Asheville, NC
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist & loop artist

Though this pedal and the others like it in EHX's Performance Series are super light, they're not made of "cheap plastic." The housing is constructed with glass-reinforced nylon, which might sound fragile at first but upon doing a little research you'll find that it's found in military grade weapons and knives. The wah tone on this thing is impeccable and works great with single coils or humbuckers, the fuzz tone with bias control sounds creamy & delicious, & the rack & pinion system stays in place perfectly for the ultimate cocked wah sound. My only complaints are that the knobs and toggles are a little small and the crying tone isn't something to write home about. Hardly deal breakers to me, especially for that tone. If your wah pedal requirements include being able to substitute it for dumbbells then this might not be the pedal for you, but I've been stomping and rocking this thing like mad for a few months and have had no problems.

Average All in One

By Patrick R. from Manitou Beach, MI

Right out of the box, I was a little disappointed in the build quality. It is plastic, and very light, so makes me wonder how it will stand the test of time. I am not a constant user of a wah pedal, and this will probably only get used for a few songs, for me. Upon first testing it out, I would have to say that the wah effect is average. Probably better served using it, in a cocked wah position. The talk feature, is what I was really looking forward to, but left me a little disappointed. After messing around a bit, I found that it has a small sweet spot in the sweep of the pedal. You have to have a light foot and be delicate with your motion. The talk effect is ok. I only have one song in mind with it, so no problem. Where the pedal shined the most for me, was the fuzz effect. As a fuzz effect alone, I think the pedal would serve well. It has a bias control, if dialed down, gives you that broken up sound of a dieing battery.
All in all, for a moderate user of this type of pedal, as I am, would probably serve one well, but if you rely on these three effects a lot, I would shoot for individual units, because I don't think you will be happy here, with this pedal alone.

Amazing Effects

This pedal does it for me. Great tones, good value, and light as a feather! Best addition to my pedalboard in years.

Cheap

By Sweetwater Customer

It was plastic and the pedal wouldn’t even click the button to work when you stepped on it. If I had kept it I would have had to glued an extension just to get it to work.

For a toy, it's OK

By Commish from Nashua, NH
Music Background: Musician

PROS: budget-priced, lots of features such as the cry/talk toggle, pre/post fuzz and BOT controls. Fun to play around with.

CONS: Poor quality construction (all plastic and very light); on/off switch interference; the rocker 'sweep' is tightly limited to a small sweet spot.

OVERALL: If you are into pedals like I am, this one is lots of fun to play around with, especially if you use it with delays, vibes, reverbs, echos and other pedals when researching otherworldly sonic landscapes, but personally, I would never use this for a gig or for recording.

RECOMMENDATION TO MFR: get rid of the cheap plastic and build it like a Sherman tank. Move the on/off switch from the toe to the heel. Increase the sweet spot to a wider sweep for better control of the signal. Make the tiny knobs and toggle switches bigger/longer... easier to use when bending down to make adjustments.
