MXR M303 Clone Looper Pedal
MXR M303 Clone Looper Pedal Reviews
If you’ve been searching for a simple looper with bulletproof durability, supreme sound, and room for expansion, MXR’s Clone Looper is the pedal for you. The Clone Looper boasts sample rates up to 88.2kHz — nearly double that of many other digital looper pedals — so you won’t encounter aliasing when recording an overdriven electric or a percussive acoustic. You get up to six minutes of record time to share between unlimited overdubs. So whether you’re creating a 6-minute play-along track or 30 seconds of cascading melodies and harmonies, the MXR Clone Looper has you covered. Your loops stay in the pedal between uses, even when you power it down, so it’s easy to take ideas from home to the practice space for fleshing out. Advanced features, including 1/2–2x time stretching, expression pedal and tap switch inputs, and Play Once mode for backing tracks give the MXR Clone Looper plenty of room for you to grow. It’s all set in a brushed metal housing with an impeccable all-analog signal path, with programmable true/buffered bypass switching to suit any pedal setup.
Clone in the zone
I've had the Clone Looper for a couple weeks now. It's my second looper pedal (first one gave up after many years). The Clone's two-button start/stop make it less likely to make an unwanted change in a live setting. Plays back recorded sounds pretty accurately. Doesn't take up a lot of space. I'm used to hitting it on the beat but would prefer the feature that's on other loopers where that accuracy isn't required. The other Clone features are fun (backwards playback, alter playback speed, etc.). I could see using them in measured doses. I definitely require a looper and the Clone is a solid performer.
Simple!
This is almost the perfect looper for me. Simple two knob set up, plenty of headroom. I had a Pigtronix Infnity 2 and there just wasn't enough headroom for louder signals, I would get naaasty digital cracks/distortion. The MXR just works with whatever you throw at it.
Two buttons are the way to go!
I upgraded from a single-button looper because the double-tap was tripping me up too much. This is perfect. Being able to start the loop/overdub with one button and stop it with another is huge! If you're using the same loop at various points in a song, being able to seamlessly stop and start it is essential. The Clone Looper allows me to do that. I was concerned that I might unintentionally depress the volume knob (which is also a pushbutton switch) with my foot while operating the buttons, but now that I've been using it for a while, this has not been an issue. It is far enough away from the other buttons. As for the speed and reverse functions, I have not used them, so I cannot provide any feedback on those.
I'm Loopy!
Tried getting into the loop - pun intended- with my Boss VE-8- but didn't like the double tap needed - saw people liked this one for its simplicity and features - I'm still on the learning curve but am confident this was a good choice for me.
Sucks!!!
I've tried many options and still when I trigger this pedal my other pedals and setups will malfunction :(
My pedalboard hates this pedal and all other pedals I have are all mxr pedals .. grrr!!!!
The Sound Quality Sales Pitch is for Real, the Clone Looper Sounds Fantastic
OK, so my ears are retirement age and have weathered the assault of playing in loud rock bands and other deafening environments (USAF and oilfield), but my loops on this thing sound great to my ears. I bought a used Clone Looper at GC so I could return it easily if I didn't like it. I'm using it to work on original music in the hopes that the jam band I'm in can get back together. A Bongo bass, neck pickup, bass EQ up, highs rolled off through my too-huge pedal board (only using the EQ) sounds amazingly, glowingly warm through the Pignose Hog bass amp I'm using as a practice amp. The playback from the Clone Looper captures all of this glowing warmth beautifully. I'm very impressed.
Excellent Looper
The new MXR looper fits my needs perfectly for solo acoustic guitar performances. Easy to use and built MXR tough! It even looks cooler than most stomp pedals!
Fatally flawed and poor quality
The only way to erase the loop is to hold down a button for several seconds while it continues to make noise. If you hit stop and then try to quietly erase loop the loop starts and plays until it erases- NOT GOOD FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE. I cannot seCe how anyone would buy this and not return it. I was too busy to try it for 45 days so I guess I'm stuck with this useless paperweight. Doubt I will be buying any more Mxr products based on this useless junk box.
Still cannot find a decent simple looper to replace my aging boomerang.
One deal-breaker unfortunately
The undo/redo is not instantaneous. I like to build two layers & bring the second in and out on the downbeat of the start of cycles and can't with the clone looper... as far as I know, and external foot switch wont perform instant undo/redo either. You have to "press and hold" for the function, so you can't time to the downbeat. BUMMER.
New pedal
My new MXR looper is just what I needed. Is to use and works great.
Great practice tool
The MXR Clone Looper is a great, simple loop pedal. I have enjoyed practicing leads expanding riffs. This has become my favorite pedal.
Perfect basic looper for the gadget-averse guitarist!
should mention here that initially had an issue...when you want to clear your loop you intuitively just step and hold down the left button..but, to avoid getting a replay of your first second or two of your loop before erasure, you need to step and hold the down the volume knob until the red rec/dub light flashes rapidly..then step and hold the rec/dub button and the loop will clear..this pedal is simple and has great playback tone..
Simple To Use
This little looper is easy to use and has some great features. I was surprised by the playability of the reverse feature. I actually use it! All told, it's a great bang for the buck.
Love This Looper!
While this looper has a lot packed into its small package, it wins on two counts. First it was so easy to learn to use - clearly designed by gigging musicians. Second it sounds amazing compared to other loopers I own. The reverse feature is easy and fun to use, although it can be a little tricky to engage using the center volume button - I hit the stop/play button the first few times. IMO the half speed and double speed features are gimmicks, can't imagine using them in a live performance or in studio for that matter. But the quality and price are right for the core features. Kicking my other loopers to the curb! Good work Dunlop!
MXR LOOPER
Its awesome but it should have the tap tempo built in,instead of needing to buy another control..otherwise its fun!
I love my MXR Clone Looper! THANK YOU SWEETWATER!
I LOVE THE PRODUCT and am extremely grateful for how Sweetwater made me feel on my first product purchase. MEGA KUDOS for Codie Priester! Cody took the time to call me directly and let me know he had my order and it was ready to ship. I was shocked and surprised to get this kind of personal touch from the company! On top of that my order even had THANK YOU CANDY! My order arrived in a timely fashion and included ample information, orienting me about Sweetwater's support! That was awesome to know one can count on the company to be there by you. I did find a need for a better instructions on how to use this little gadget, well after a few tries I figured it out, but I am sure now if I would have called, Cody would have advised me. THANK YOU SWEETWATER FOR THE AMAZING SERVICE AND SUPPORT.
Amazing functionality and footprint
This pedal is amazing. I purchased to add some depth to my solo acoustic shows but have already found ways to add it to my everyday pedal board for my multiple bands. Within about 10 minutes I was off and running with this out of the box. It is very intuitive and well built. The only thing I wish it had was some form of internal memory to save a few loops to. However, I do not feel like I am missing out by not having this option. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to get into looping!
MXR Clone Looper
A gloriously easy to use product, highly recommended and top notch man.
Sounds Great
OK, I've only had this a few days. But on my very first use (and subsequent trials), the recorded tones sounded as good as the live sound. Full range, punch, articulation. Wow. This box rocks. If it fails me in the the future, I will be surprised, And will report so here. Don't expect I'll be updating, it's that good.
