ART CLEANBoxPro 2-channel Balanced / Unbalanced Level Converter Reviews

2-way Stereo Level Converter (Balanced to Unbalanced and Unbalanced to Balanced) with XLR, RCA, and 1/8" I/O

Here's a real problem solver! The CLEANBoxPro offers two channels of unbalanced-to-balanced level conversion (and vice versa), in just one rugged, portable unit. One one side, the CLEANBoxPro converts two channels of unbalanced input signals into line-level balanced outputs — it has two RCA jack inputs and a stereo mini-phone jack input feeding two XLR male jacks. The other section converts two balanced inputs (XLR) into two consumer-level unbalanced output signals. It couldn't be easier! With this kind of flexibility, the handy CLEANBoxPro deserves a home in every studio and stage toolkit.

Works like a champ! Simple to use.

This CleanBox was exactly what I needed to convert the main mix signals from the mixer to be able to use as rca inputs to our receiver/amp at our church. Sounds Great!

Handy level converter

By John walter from Illinois on January 24, 2024 Music Background: Have a degree in electronics. Not a musician.

The Art Clearbox Pro2 is a handy item to have to connect consumer electronics to and from pro audio equipment It has unbalanced RCA and 1/8 inch trs jacks in and out and XLR in and out balanced. In and out level controls are provided. It's slightly higher then 1 rack unit so allow extra space if putting it on a rack shelf. It sounds good and is ruggedly built. It uses a wall wart for power.

I was needing to combine both balanced and unbalanced audio together.
This was the perfect solution at the lowest price I had found.
Works great. Better than advertised.

CLEANbox Pro solved my home theater interface problem

By Sweetwater Customer from Arizona on December 20, 2022

I have this home theater setup where the front speakers are very inefficient and I'm solving this with a Mackie 1400 amplifier which is 30 feet away in the next room because of the fan noise. When I bought a miniDSP flex to convert digital signals to analog, provide a crossover and make room corrections, I picked the balanced version. Unfortunately, my subwoofers have unbalanced inputs so I need to convert the signal. The CLEANbox Pro was a perfect solution, with a six-foot RCA cable to each subwoofer. If I want to use the analog input to the miniDSP Flex, I can use the second section of the CLEANbox to convert from unbalanced to balanced.

A handy little box.

By Rob Hill from Orlando, FL on June 14, 2022 Music Background: Post Production Mixer.

Thanks to this box, when I replaced my studio monitors, I was able to incorporate the old monitors into my home Hi-Fi. Plenty of other uses around the studio as well. Seems well-made and the level controls are a plus.

Thank you Sweetwater.

Very grateful for the help and support from Sweetwater, and to find a good pro audio dealer to work with. I have been very pleased with all the equipment that I have received from them.

Perfect for my needs

By Ike Carumba from San Francisco on June 11, 2019 Music Background: Listener and appreciator

I use the CleanBox Pro converter to connect my Oppo Universal Dic Player's Front R and Front L unbalanced RCA outputs to my Otari 5050's XLR Ch. 1 and Ch. 2 balanced XLR inputs.

The converter is dead quiet and the reel-to-reel mixtapes I make are all dead quiet - no hum. Clean. No noise at all. The tapes actually sound a little better, with less 'glare' than their DVD-A and SACD sources.

This box does what I bought it to do perfectly. I'm happy with it

Great box!

By Joshua B. from Celina, TX on February 7, 2017 Music Background: Bass player, worship leader, & audio engineer.

This thing is like a Swiss Army knife of DI boxes. We use it to come out of an iOS device with Loop Community app, & the box splits the signal to send stem tracks down one connection & the click & vocal cues go down a separate line. Works great!

Never Buy a Matchbox Again!

By Bob Taylor from Altoona, PA on July 31, 2016 Music Background: Radio Engineering

Does everything the Henry Engineering Matchbox does with extra 1/8" connectors and you don't need a screw driver to set the levels. And less then half the price!

Peace of Mind

By Christopher Calloway from Carrboro, NC on March 29, 2019 Music Background: Noisemaker

Like all ART boxes, this little box just works. It's essentially a bidirectional DI. It gives me the isolation I need to not put any circuitry at risk. The level controls are also handy. The balanced to unbalanced can be used at the same time as unbalanced to balanced, effectively giving you four channels (nice for stereo send and return between mixer aux buses to outboard effects loops). The only thing I wish would be for it to have 1/4" instead of 1/8" phone jacks. Got the job done I was looking to do.

ART CLEANBox pro

Great product for the price.

Very Good

By Aaron Bilger from Marion, OH on December 29, 2018 Music Background: Home/Pro Audio user

Works really good with my setup BUT it works best with professional equipment RCA to XLR or XLR to RCA. I tried to use rca to rca and got no sound so if you hoped for that reason go for something different but this does boost your gain if you have a low gain but there is some noticeable noise increase you know people call it a hissing that's pink noise (REMEMBER that). But now some people have those humming noise that's a 60hz hum I did happen to encounter that problem once when I was trying to use this for a subwoofer but it was my encounter for error. Lesson learned use shielded rca or xlr cables and keep that power cord away from signal wires otherwise you might get that 60hz hum but its a very good unit don't worry about the humming problem only if you have the gain all the way up on the thing and have cheap low end equipment you might encounter high noise floors mine was quite on my Crown k2 amplifier and on my Crown XLi 2500 the noise had increased some so if you can hear your speakers with that hissing AKA pink noise sound then this could become a negative product for someone. RCA was the one that gave me some noise issues. RCA to XLR never gave me any issues.

ART CleanBoxPro

By Dale De on June 30, 2015 Music Background: Engineer Broadcast Design

The AC power adaptor has a 12vdc output so I find it interesting that the DC voltage would cause hum. Now if they used a 12vac output to the unit that could cause hum in the 3.5mm input jacks.

CLEANBoxPro does the job

By Brian R Smith from WV, CO, AZ on September 10, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

What it's job is isn't all that exciting, so I can't rave about it, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do. A similar unit with 3 stereo channels would be a product I would buy.

Swiaa Army knife of DI boxes

By Thomad Ruffhead from Lancaster, PA on August 25, 2014 Music Background: Live Sound & Keyboards

Yep! It will connect almost anything to a pair of XLR cables! I purchased it to connect my laptop to the PA system. This lets me use keyboard plugins to add plenty of new sounds to our band's repertoire. It's also perfect for connecting MP3 devices and even your old cassette deck. I also like the volume controls that allow you to adjust the input for the best signal to noise ratio.

Does What It Says

By Tim White from United States on January 28, 2013 Music Background: Long-Time Hobbyist

The interconnections are flexible, and do exactly what you expect. I can take the output of my iPad/iPhone headphone jack and run it into the unbalanced input, and then run XLR cables out and into my mixer without getting the noise that running a long unbalanced cable would pick up. It does take some fiddling to get all the gains lined up between your source device, the CLEANBoxPro, and the mixer. I like the flexibility of having a headphone output-type jack (1/8" stereo), RCA, XLR, and 1/4" jacks. Makes hooking things up less frustrating than always having to search for that perfect adapter.

Works, but has design flaws

By Rich Fredrick from Chicagoland on October 3, 2013 Music Background: musician

This is a handy item to have for a variety of connection scenarios. It does have a design flaw , however. If you look at the close-up of the side with the power connection (from a wall-wart) you will see that it is extremely close to the 1/8" unbalanced input and this causes interference and lo freq hum. When the unbalanced RCA inputs are used instead, the problem goes away. (The RCA inputs are on the opposite side of the box.) It seems as if ART used an existing housing (SpliMix4 ?), jammed it full of input and output connections and ran out of space to put the power supply input.

Home stereo to powered monitors

By Kenny Bergle from Fort Wayne, IN on July 6, 2012 Music Background: Crazed and Out There

This baby works well to balance RCA jacks out of your home stereo or home theater receiver. That way you can run XLR cables out to your powered monitors that just became available since you upgraded your studio monitors. Don't have powered monitors for your home stereo? Get some! It's amazing what you can hear coming out of your radio, if your speakers are up to it. :)

ART Clean Box

By Sweetwater Customer from Detroit, MI on January 2, 2013 Music Background: Musician

The product is fine, but for me because of the powered amplification it actually caused a low end rumble in my system at church. The signal was so hot I had to almost completely lower my gain, so it worked to an extent but it was to powerful

UnCleanBox

By Sweetwater Customer from NW Montana on December 11, 2013 Music Background: Live sound engineer, bass player

The outputs aren't transformer isolated, so I had a buz when converting the output of a consumer dvr to a pro line level input. The gain is helpful, but I had to add a transformer to the output to clean up the signal.
