Stereo Audio Meter with 7" High-resolution Display and USB Connection for Plug-in Metering

We trust our ears to guide us in our mixes. But the truth is that our ears can overlook subtle mix issues like phasing, clipping, and low dynamic range. And before you know it, a late-night session becomes more about triage than serving the song. But thanks to the TC Electronic Clarity M Stereo, vital metering for your stereo sessions is always right where you need it — no windows or clumsy calibration tools to get in the way of your work. Connect the Clarity M Stereo to your computer or console and get the instant feedback you need to make the best mixing, mastering, and post-production decisions, all in compliance with industry loudness standards. The crisp 7" full-color display is easy to read in any environment, and TC Electronic's iconic loudness radar and high-accuracy RTA will ensure your ears always return to magnetic north.

Love this thing

By Aaron G. from Albuquerque, NM
Music Background: Audio Engineer

I've used this for a few months and found it to be very helpful for all areas of engineering. Tracking, mixing and mastering. It's very customizable as well. In a way it's helped my mixes because of all the info it gives you.

I used to use a plugin for this sort of stuff, now it's always sitting in front of me.

Perfect

By Lars S. from Scottsdale, AZ

Simple and awesome. It is digital input for a reason. Some people complain there is no analog input but that 100% defeats the purpose as you can alter the attenuation of the audio signal effectively rendering monitoring level useless. Well made and great price.

Wish I had this years ago

By Sweetwater Customer from South Carolina

The capability of this meter goes well beyond loudness. The ability to evaluate loudness, spectral content, stereo balance, and more, in a single device has significantly improved my final mixes. This meter presents key analytical values in tabular and graphical format of which target values can be compared. Adjustment of these parameters not only guide towards optimal end-product(s) but also assists in *audible discovery* of what such adjustments impact in musical content. Being able to analyze track/mix sources without additional conversions and/or coloration from external amplification/tone/volume devices helps ensure the what-you -see is what-you-get. The built in library of presets for most user-set-ups and/or user-hosts helps eradicate guesswork in optimization schemes.

Tested on some of my old-school mixed tracks and found a redo with the TC meter allowed discovery of many improvement opportunities. If this meter failed, I would have to hold off on mixes until a replacement was acquired.

* I make use of an external Digital to Analog converter to allow real time audible feedback of mix and impacts of parameter adjustments. This requires two active USB channels with one sourcing the A to D converter and the other sourcing the TC Loudness meter.

Amazing Device

By Tommy T. from Polk City, FL

This thing is pretty nice. When it works right. I have had issues using it in my DAW through their plugin. I use Studio One Pro with a Studio 192 interface. I wish there was a way to connect this to my system not as a plugin and just always have it going through my audio outputs. I can seem to figure out. At the moment I have to keep unplugging it every how ever many minutes to reset it so it will work as a plugin again. Yes I have updated the firmware. Yes I have installed the plugin properly. Yes I has worked in the past just fine. Not now though. I have reinstalled the plugin. I still have issues. Please, if there is a way, even if I have to buy adapters, to use this from my studio 192 audio output, I would greatly appreciate the information. Mine did not come with any cables other than a USB cable. I love this device and what its capable of doing for me only if it worked perfectly.

Blow's Away All The Plug-In's!

By jimivan from FL, USA
Music Background: Old 80's Engineer.....

After trying multiple plug-in's to find a tool that would allow me to easily monitor levels for the different streaming platforms the Clarity M is IMO by far the most accurate and convenient option out there. The ability to have it always in view makes my workflow feel much more like working on a mixing console.

I cannot add much more that all the other great reviewers have said, but if you are on-the-fence about the Clarity M vs. some of the plugins out there I would recommend giving this a try!

Very nice

By Steven
Music Background: Songwriter, performer, producer, creative type your mom and may or may not like

I tend to always have a RTA GUI screen up on one monitor in the studio. This little unit sits beside my mixer always giving me spectral and db levels, super simple and effective, it also gives me real estate on my second screen. These measurements are critical, very useful tool. The Radar view screen with real time levels for a whole song duration is wonderful.

Useful for sure but flawed

By Eric J. from Longmont, CO

This thing is really cool and can be used to dial in mixes and volume levels. It's nice that it "prints" when rendering a file so that the relative loudness of the mix can be seen as a function of time.

But... They only include a power cable and USB cable that are only about 3 feet long. That's cheap and forced me to buy new cables. It's not like my studio desk is unusual either: The power is under the desk. Probably just like everyone else's. The cables are too short, period.

It also doesn't always connect correctly and the plugin has to be removed then re-added and the unit has to be rebooted. It can't switch between applications either. I'll keep it because it provides a lot of useful functionality but TC Electronics didn't think this thing through very well or just decided to pass their costs (cable length) onto their customers.

Excellent companion to your DAW setup

By Sweetwater Customer from CA

This little guy is worth every penny, not only saves screen real estate when trying to keep an eye on levels, but it is also more accurate than some stock plug-ins I used. Highly recommended

Great Tool, just wish it also showed RMS

By Drew from Nampa, ID
Music Background: recording, mixing, & mastering tech

This thing is great! No more audio statistics plugin taking up screen space, this give me most of what I look for there on a dedicated device, and other information. The only 2 things I wish it showed was PL in RMS and minimum RMS for noisefloor. I do a good mix of music and spoken word at my studio, and ACX still does everything in RMS. So for those projects I still have to pull up my audio stats plugin, but this gives me a better read on balance, mono deviation, correlation, plus with an RTA graph and a VScope.

Man!!!

By Tommy T. from Polk City, FL

This is one of my favorite pieces of gear in my home studio! Easy to use. Looks amazing. Very responsive. Metal construction! Easy functionality! I love it! To be able to have all the features like RTA, VSCOPE & RADAR plus being able to customize the setup on the screen is awesome! It helps keep me consistently on point with my sound! Highly suggested piece of gear for any studio!

Great little peace of gear.

By Tommy T. from Polk City, FL

This thing is packed full of useful features. Certainly going to help me as far as keeping a standard loudness for my music. I never did like using plugins for this sort of thing. I need my screens for other things! Im not going to get into much about it but I will say I am so glad I bought this thing. It's very well built and feels like quality, the buttons are nice and clicky, I can use it as a USB, spdif, or optical! I have all three so that's nice! For now I am trying the USB part of it and I run the plugin on my master chain. I'll try the other connections later. Set up was very simple. I am extremely happy with it.

Great Tool!

By Ģirts
Music Background: OBvan technical engineer

I agree with all of the above.
In turn, I want to add on the mechanical part, or how to attach the Clarity M to a RAM mount.
I encountered a problem that I can't screw the M5 screw into place, and I was misled by the previous user's experience of using inch screws. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the manufacturer has provided M5 / 0.8 thread, but later the powder coating has covered it. I didn't want to unscrew the thread when screwing with the M5 I was afraid to screw securely. My experience shows that before screwing in the M5 / 0.8 screw, it is advisable to clean the thread with the appropriate screwdriver beforehand.

Great recommendation by my sales engineer

By Mike S. from Nashville
Music Background: producer and mix engineer

I like having a hardware RTA in the Control Room so it can be visible on what I'm hearing any time without taking up the screen real estate of a plugin. Alas, plugins have pretty much replaced the hardware. It seemed like the TC Electronics Clarity M was the only thing available other than really expensive devices for broadcasters, but I hadn't heard of it before a Google search. I usually order online from Sweetwater, but in this case I called my sales engineer, and he recommended the Clarity M, saying he'd seen it and knew it would fit our needs, but I could return it if it didn't. As usual, it came fast and was packed well, with candy. Super easy connection and setup. It needs a digital input, and was plug and play with either the left or right output from the MTRX (AES/EBU multiplexes the stereo signal and the device comes with a BNC-to-XLR adapter). There's a USB connection connection for an NLE plugin, which we haven't tried. Auto ranges the RTA, or can be used for calibrated readings (as for broadcast). Well built. Beautiful display. The right side of the screen has options for combinations of phase, balance, loudness, clipping, channel weighting and mono compatibility, functions that are marginally useful to me but might appeal to others. My only wish is for a full-screen RTA option.

Fantastic tool

By Brandon from Seattle, WA
Music Background: Full time mixer, engineer, producer

Yes, of course there are plug-ins that will do much of the same thing. However -- There is something nicer about having a dedicated screen that displays whatever you need at a given time - all the time. Tracking? Switch on the FFT and watch your subs or get a visual on where you need to EQ. Mixing? The FFT, stereo balance and correlation meters are all helpful. Mastering? Check the FFT, then switch to the loudness radar (which is really easy to read at a glance) for setting your final level. All done without messing with plug-ins or taking up valuable real estate on your DAW screens. I haven't messed with the plug-in interface, so I can't speak to that, but I feed mine from the digital "mirror" output from my monitor controller. So whatever digital source I'm connected to (CD player, iTunes, DAW) I can have a quick visual to compare stats on spectral balance, loudness, etc. Extremely helpful when quickly referencing other material during mixing.

I still also reference Dorrough and K-System meters in my DAW (since I know their behavior so well) but this thing is super helpful to my workflow and fun to use. It's also solidly built. But the biggest endorsement I can give it is that for all the mixes I have sent outside for mastering, the feedback has been how consistent my mixes where in balance and level, and how easy they were to work on. As (primarily) a mixer, that's the best thing I can say about it. It's a real tool.

My one nit-pick: I wish the peak meter could zoom in closer for more resolution, and that sample peak values were displayed as well as (or as an option to) the true peaks that it displays. A real bonus would be if the vertical peak meters could display the K-System scale and colors!

Tc Electronic Clarity M Stereo

By Michael from Pennsylvania

WOW!! Blows away our DK Meters

By Ric from San Diego
Music Background: 48+ years in the recording business

We've got a $5000 DK meter in our SSL C200 console, as well as a couple stand-alone DK units that match what's in the SSL. The DK's are 10-years old, well before the ATSC standard was in place. We also have a TC System 6000 with Radar built-in, so I'm really used to watching my ref levels on Radar.

But THIS THING IS RIDICULOUS!! An incredible tool, and at this price?! I just installed the plugin to use with Pro Tools and it's really cool the way Clarity follows the input strip you may move the plug in to... if there's something specific in your session you want to see, DRAG the plugin to that strip and Clarity shows you what's going on.

Enough space wasted here... if you do ANYTHING for broadcast, you MUST meet regulations. This is a great tool to confirm your work will NOT get thrown back to "FIX IT"!!

Great tool!

By Tracy from Washington State
Music Background: 25 Years FOH Engineer

I use this to set my levels correctly for submitting our bands music tracks to various media streams. Very easy to use. A great tool.

I set the peak indicator time to infinite so I now if the track clipped if I get distracted. I will probably lower that threshold from 0 dBTP to -2 dBTP to give my tracks clipping room if a streaming service resamples the track.

The manual incorrectly states that the screw holes for using a RAM mount are M5, actually they are #10-32. The hardware store got a few of my bucks for some metric hardware that will now sit on the bench.

A Professional Tool

By YogiFish from New York
Music Background: Sound Designer

The most important tool for audio production and creativity, is seeing the quality of the signal your hearing...Accurately. Sure.. we already have many audio analysis tools available in pure software plugin form, but they're tied to the virtual environment only. And, some cost more than this product.

The TC Electronic Clarity M Stereo Loudness Meter gives me the flexibility of monitoring in the software, digital and analog domains. This also gives me the consistency of using the same tool as my reference point in my studio or on location. I feel like I'm working in a more professional manner, by having a solid physical product like this to interact with.

Low cost, but a solid physical product. Great custom mounting options available from 'Ram Mounts' as well. I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.
