TC Electronic Cinders Overdrive Pedal Reviews

Overdrive Pedal with True Bypass Switching and 9V Battery/9VDC Power Supply Operation

Here's some great news: the tube-tinted character of a fabled blue dirt box is now available at a barn burner of a price! Like the pedal it's based on, the fiery TC Electronic Cinders overdrive seeks to capture the sound, handling, and intensity of a cranked tube amp, even at bedroom levels. Smoldering when cranked yet ice cool when you roll your volume back, the TC Cinders gives you that sought-after tube amp playing response. Run it into a clean amp and sample the full spectrum of Cinders' capable control scheme, or redline a dirty channel to push rhythm and lead tones over the edge. Whatever your musical tastes, the TC Cinders is designed for transparency. Its Tone and Drive controls are created to be extensions of your base sound, even at extreme settings. Whether you're picking, plunking, thumbing, or chugging, you'll feel your guitar speak with the same dynamic intensity as being plugged straight into an amp. And when it comes to build quality, the TC Electronic Cinders is built like a tank. Its metal housing and true bypass switching help maximize your tone on both sides of that rootsy "tube" saturation. Battery evangelist? The Cinders can be powered from a standard 9-volt internal battery as well as your favorite standard 9-volt DC pedal power supply. Take it from Sweetwater players: if you're searching for certified tube tone to go, the TC Cinders has all the makings of a modern classic.

Nice tube sounding overdrive

By Brian from Arizona on January 18, 2024 Music Background: 40+ years of playing electric guitar (rock/electric blues/heavy metal)

Gives a nice tube amp tone that I can dial in for light order drive for blues and early 70's rock or I can push it to be more aggressive without the tone breaking up.

TC Electronic puts out really good and very affordable pedals. If you're on a budget or just don't want to spend a fortune, get TC Electronic pedals like I do.

An Affordable Gem

By Jim from Ohio on August 18, 2023 Music Background: Professional Musician

I've been wanting something to give me that warm, overdriven tube sound for blues, country rock and rock in general.
I watched all manner of reviews on You Tube and stumbled across this pedal. TC Electronics makes good stuff so after seeing some videos, I ordered one. I can fully recommend this affordable drive because it does what it says and even more if you want.
You can go from the mildest, sweet-smooth tube overdriven sounds all the way to screaming solos. It's very responsive to pick attack and that's exactly what the doctor ordered for me. A great little affordable addition to my board.

My Second Time

By Dwight from Macon, GA on December 28, 2022

This is my second time buying a Cinders. It was on my first real pedal board. I've owned real prince of tones, real Timmy's, real zendrives, etc and I came back to this pedal. I think it punches way above its weight class. I recently sold my analogman p.o.t. to buy this 2nd cinders. Best blues breaker circuit I've tried!
If you want light gain or loud boost, here you go

Surprisingly great sounds

By Sweetwater Customer on December 9, 2021

I have tried every type of OD with the exception of a blues driver type. This pedal really does deliver the goods. It's got a great tube-y sound that compresses naturally when you push the drive level. It's earned a starring role on my board. It sounds fantastic. Even flirts with fuzz territory. Excellent build quality. And at the price point it's a no brainer. High bang for buck ratio. Buy it!

Under Rated Blues Breaker Style OD

By Sweetwater Customer from Chicago on December 6, 2021

TC has always been a quality brand in my experience and this pedal is no different. Really good blues breaker style OD for $!

Surprisingly good!

By Arthur Lopez from TEMECULA, CA on December 3, 2021 Music Background: Gigging Musician

It's a poor man's blues driver... Feels transparent. Has a nice bite to it. I hear more clarity. It can be a little sharp if you don't dial in your tone knob accordingly. I have plenty of other drive pedals, boutique included... Digging this one right now and the TC Magus. Good stuff and it does not break the bank.

Versatile BD clone

By Zac from Oregon on March 25, 2024

I now understand the hype behind the BD circuit, it really is versatile and a lot different than a TS overdrive - it goes from a warm boost to a pretty respectable metal tone. This pedal just does it on the same thing on the cheap. Plays well with a clean amp, or to push a tube amp to saturation.

Life-changing? No.
Worth owning? For this price, absolutely.

I think this would make a great first overdrive pedal for anyone.
