Great Accessory

By Paul Sarran from Santa Rosa, CA on December 11, 2023 Music Background: Musician / Live sound engineer

I have a long relationship with Audix. I have several of their mics. Now I finally got a Cab Grabber. I will be getting more. I am very happy with how it is so compact and holds on to the guitar cabs so well. No more knocking over the mic stand and moving during the show. I do sound for several bands and a church. It is a great solution in my many different situations.

Very cool

Great idea and it works! I love the set-up simplicity. When I first received it I was turning it to widen. Nope! Just pull it apart. Perfect!

CabGrabber = less dufus!

By Mark Jarrett on July 17, 2016

I live in a small space. The cabgrabber eliminates all the room a traditional mic stand takes in front of your speaker cabinet (tripod legs, round metal base, boom, and cable sprawl). Well crafted, spring feels strong, holds onto the cabinet well, I like the 2x notched cable holders to control where the cable goes. Simple and perfect idea!

Don't have to worry about mic placement, or accidentally kicking the mic stand in front of the amp. The CabGrabber does just what it's intended to do.

What a concept!

By Sweetwater Customer from Concord, MA on May 12, 2015

Worked just as expected and it was just what I needed. The spring had just the right tension, and the soft end hooks protected the amp cabinet and didn't slip out of place.
Solved a bunch of problems, and looks good, too. Not much more to say.

Found a better use!

This reducees stage clutter. For some uses a longer arm would be desireable, however the addition of a short gooseneck fixes that shortcoming.

Cab grabbers are great! I get to run sound for several different bands. Clamp these on guitar cabinets, position your mic and go..... Keeps active musicians from kicking over your short mic stands on stage. Wish that it had a tad more mic position flexibility, but all in all, excellent product. Grab you one, you won't regret it.

I LOOOVE IT

By Jeremy N from RI on August 29, 2018 Music Background: Semi-pro guitarist

I have it mounted on the left side of my Blues Jr. which puts it closer to the cone. I have an SM57 and I don't even disassemble it for gigs; it's just a part of the amp now. All I have to do is plug in the mic cable. Blows people away when they see how easy my setup is. Mic is always well placed. I may just have to swivel the arm for cone placement.

The 57 is a little closer to the grille than I'd like, but it's not touching. I had to slide it back in the clip to accomplish this. Still sounds nice.

Overall, I recommend it to anyone to make their lives simpler. I have the big brother on my 4x12 that stays at home; works great and saves floor space.

Audix CabGrabber

By Tim Rooney from IL on September 28, 2017

I wish I had invented this. It does everything it says it will do. The first of those things being I will no longer trip over a mic stand sitting in front of the amp cabinet. The second thing is that the integral cable clamps make cable management so much easier. That's not to say it doesn't have limitations.

The first of those is that it doesn't have a lateral adjustment. You screw in your mic clamp and slide in your mic, and that is where the mic is positioned. There's no way to position it closer to the rim or closer to the cone's center. (There is an accessory arm that will allow you to do this.) The second is mic weight. The specs on the CabGrabber list the max weight of the mic at 16 oz. The mic I REALLY wanted to use was an
EV RE20. Unfortunately, that mic weighs in at a hefty 26 oz. I will experiment. I'm currently using a Shure SM57 which seems to work just fine.

Thanks to Miles Patterson for doing the research on weight limits for me, and conferring with Audix.

Versatile, Well-Made

Had intended to buy one of these ever since Audix introduced them years ago but finally pulled the trigger when I needed a solution for mic'ing my cajon live for an "unplugged" gig. Totally did the trick! But will also be perfect for the intended use of mic'ing cabinets in the future.

Quick and Easy is the best way to describe this mic mount for a guitar cabinet. Only drawback is the inability to adjust the distance of the mic from the edge of the cabinet toward the middle of the speaker when only one speaker is centered.

By Michael Anderson from Washington, UT on January 20, 2015 Music Background: 40 years semi-pro guitarist - church praise team, oldies band, contemporary country and rock band.

Excellent tool for mic'ing an amp. The only small down side is that the locking wheel that fixes the angle of the elbow to the main straight pipe does not stay in place easily. To fix that I wrapped some teflon pipe tape on the threads. Now it works better.

Other than that it seems very durable. I've had it for about one month and have used it 3 times for performances. No regrets.

Cool alternative to a mic stand

By Sweetwater Customer on December 15, 2014 Music Background: Live Sound Engineer, Hobby Guitarist

I really like the Cab Grabber for a few reasons. It's very quick and easy to set up and adjust. Low-Profile design. If the guitarist moves their amp, the mic stays right where you set it. You can use just about any microphone with it.
Just make sure you get the right sized Cab Grabber. Regular size is great for combo amps and smaller cabs (9-12"). If you use a cabinet that's deeper than 12" I'd go for the XL version.

Cab grabber is easy to set up and use right out of the box.
Spring seems to be solid.
My only issue is that Sm57 weighs it down a little, but if you move grabber around it holds good.

Almost perfect

By Byrd Broyles on September 28, 2022

It doesn't come with a microphone attachment. You have to buy those separate. They're cheap, it's just annoying. Works great though.

Needs Goose Neck

By Sweetwater Customer from Brooklyn, NY on November 29, 2021

Product comes pretty much as described, maybe a bit heavier than expected which is probably a sign of durability.
However, unless this is somehow the perfect fit for your amp, you're gonna need a goose neck to adjust where on the amp you place you're mic, and how far.

Audix CabGrabber - Gigging Workhorse

By Eric O from Phoenix on November 10, 2021 Music Background: Semi Professional

I've not found anything else like this on the market. It keeps the space in front of my speaker cab / amp clean and in tight spaces, it's a wonderful thing. There are even clips to keep the mic cable from just hanging there. There are some issues with making adjustments as it takes some getting used to and if it's not tightened properly, your mic could sag. I ended up putting an extender on the end so I could get my SM57 closer to the center of the cone. It's small enough to fit in my accessory bag and much lighter than carrying around a mic stand / boom with a heavy base.

Sound-saver!!!

By GDawg from Salado, Texas on October 18, 2021 Music Background: 50plus years in the business.

The Grabber is a very practical asset to my sound reinforcement system. These have saved many accidental movement of microphone placement. But it should only be mounted on the left side of the cabinet. Perhaps a capture or set screw on the side instead of a locking ring would better overcome gravity. Understand how these work gets a consistent mounting and very very good results.

So Far So Good

By Rock out with your... from Florida on September 10, 2019 Music Background: Guitarist/vocalist/producer/engineer (in my dream world)

I read all the reviews before buying this. All the other reviews were extremely helpful. I knew exactly what to expect.

The weight limit for a mic on one of these is about 1 pound; however, one guy suggested using some plumber"s tape. I put an MXL 990 on it, weighing in at a hefty 19.2 oz. with the plumber"s tape - no problem!

Also, if you want your mic to stay in place and not droop down over time, mount it on the left hand side or top side of your amp. 1 more thing - a short gooseneck mic holder may help because you can"t adjust the mic distance from the cabinet. The gooseneck can fix that situation.

Simply your setup!!

By Brian from Elizabethtown, KY on February 13, 2017 Music Background: Bassist, occasional sound guy

Every guitarist and sound guy needs one in their bag. Really simplifies setup. Keeps the stage clean and free of all those boom stands. Spring loaded and clamps right on. Pop on the mic of your choice and you are ready to go. Can't believe I waited as long as I did to get this.

By Pat Costa on January 5, 2015

What a novel idea. I wish I had thought of it. I wish it had an adjustable boom for the mic so that you did not have to push the mic so far into the mic holder. It stays in the position you place it, it is away from foot traffic and look cool. It has the "Wow, Whats That thing" factor. I might get a small goose neck for it after i play with it a while.

Convenient useful tool.

By Phen from Pensacola , Fl on January 1, 2014 Music Background: Professional hobbyist 20 yrs

The cabgrabber works great. My band mics everything at gigs. I was hanging a mic over the front of my amp with a loop from the handle or using a stand that was in the way on a cramped stage. The cabgrabber does exactly what it's advertised to do effectively. Miking my amp now is neat and tidy with no stand and takes up very little space in the gig bag. A very useful tool that's easy and quick. It's worth the money. I would definitely recommend it for Miking situations.

Very Handy

By Zac C. from United States on March 15, 2013 Music Background: Recording Engineer

It's nice not having to use a regular mic stand to mic a guitar cab - one less thing to trip over. This CabGrabber holds on snugly and is built well. My only two complaints that keep it from getting 5 stars: 1) It's a little pricey for what it is and 2) you can't adjust the distance from the mic clip to the front of the cab - if you are using SM57's then there's not much problem because you have some flexibility by sliding the mic forward or back in the clip, but if you use say a Sennheiser e609, then you're kinda stuck unless you attach a short gooseneck extension. No biggie - otherwise a great addition to mic gear.

The fact that I don't have to worry about a floor stand, makes this product worth it. It's easy to attach, and small enough to pack in a bag. As a working musician, easy is the way to go.

CabGrabber Mic Holder

By Jim Maidlow from Anderson, IN on January 9, 2012 Music Background: Professional Guitarist

This is a great product that can help you save floor space on stage. the idea is very good and the CabGrabber does a good job of clamping to your speaker cabinet or combo amp to hold you mic. It is very effective but could use a little more adjustment because your mic placement is somewhat limited. I found that a flexible gooseneck could solve that issue. All in all, a very good product that is far better than using a mic stand.

Very good, but could be great

By Wayne F. from Ohio on March 31, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist for 23 years

The cab grabber is a good solution for mic'ing a speaker cabinet. There are three minor issues to be aware of.

1. The cab grabber is best placed on the left side of the cabinet due to the way the "thumb screw" works. If the cab grabber is placed on the right side of a cabinet, then gravity pulling the mic down works to unscrew the thumb screw. When the cab grabber is placed on the left side of the cabinet, the weight of the mic works to tighten the screw. Thus, the mic will be more secure when the cab grabber is placed on the left side of the cabinet.

2. The cab grabber is spring loaded. I could see this potentially being an issue in regards to accessibility or for those that are accident prone. While I don't think it posses much of a safety hazard, I do not like the idea of having something hooked up in my studio that could shoot off my amp should a failure in the materials occur.

3. Depending on how long the mic is and how deep the grill of the cabinet is from front edge of the cabinet, the cab grabber may or may not allow the mic to point straight into the amp. I have a Peavey Valveking 112 and a Shure Beta 57A, and the closest I could get the mic to pointing straight into the cabinet was to have it at a 30 degree angle. So the issue is that the cab grabber has about 1/4 of play in the distance of the mic clip from the grill of the cabinet. This 1/4 of play is determined by the "thumb screw" that I mentioned previously.

A redesign of the cab grabber would be needed to solve issue 1 and 2. Solving issue 3 is much easier. When I mentioned the issue I had with mic placement to my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, he suggested that I try a six inch gooseneck. I did try the gooseneck, and it solves the problem of issue 3 very well. In fact, rather than being limited to the small radius of the cab grabber's arm, I now have that plus five inches. I can aim the mic anywhere from the edge to the center of the speaker.

I deducted half a star for each of the issues I mentioned. I do recommend the cab grabber. And I would definitely by it again.

Audio CabGrabber

By Russ from Arizona on May 27, 2016 Music Background: Guitar player and home studio engineer

It works well at securing the mic in place, but it could use a way to adjust the distance between the speaker and the mic. If you use a Sennheiser e-609 with it's intended clip you get in close. Other than that, it is quick and easy to place and beats hanging the mic over the top down in front.

just right

By Sweetwater Customer on May 18, 2015

The unit works wonderfully. The only issue I seen with it is; the locking nut that tightens and loosens the neck, holding the microphone (allowing it to spin off axis) is a little tedious but other than that great buy. They will improve on this I'm sure. Great product great idea and it works !!!!!

Design improvement requested

By Sweetwater Customer on October 18, 2021 Music Background: Professional musician for 50 years

It's quick, works well for placement of mic to speaker. One request is to have the notch on the rubber grabbers extended for thicker cabinet shells to fit more secure, prevent rolling causing mic displacement.

Good idea, decent execution

By Harry on May 26, 2020 Music Background: Hobby musician, home recording

As many have said, this is a great idea but lacking in its execution. I've got two of these now so allow me to share my experiences.

1. It doesn't seem to like 1x12 cabs. I'm using this with an Orange PPC112, which is quite a bit larger than than other cabs. As a result, the CabGrabber would naturally place the mic on either the very edge of the speaker or on the front wood. If I were using a 212 or a smaller 112 this might not be an issue, however this is just my experience and your experience may differ.

2. To compensate for 1, I'm also using a couple Gator goosenecks (a 6" and 13" specifically) to add just a little bit more distance to the mics so I can properly get them on the speaker. However, this adds some significant weight and causes a fair amount of "droop" which attaching a mic only compounds. I'm using a Sennheiser e835 and e906, mics that are fairly lightweight. This droop makes it difficult to accurately dial in my mic placement. This also presents a slight issue with physically placing the CG on your cab. To compensate for the droop, I'm having to place the CGs at the very tippy top of my cab's sides, just below the corners. This also limits where I can place my mics, but I'm managing with what I've got. The attached photo is what the rig looks like.

3. As far as I can tell, it's a decently made product, though the rubber sole on my first one did break off a couple weeks ago and I had to reattach it with gorilla glue.

So yeah, a good idea but the execution needs some work.

Good, but not what I expected

By Hershey Bell on April 2, 2019 Music Background: Amateur

Good, fits on my cabinet, but I needed to use a boom in order to mic with my SM57. Wish I had gotten a regular stand.

It's okay... but...

By AJ on August 21, 2017 Music Background: Fulltime musician (guitar/bass/drums)

It has improved the sound by positioning the mike a little better and getting a mike stand out of the way.
However, I have no intention of buying another mic (the Audix) so that the mic can point right at the speaker.
I'll probably get a bigger mic clip so that the mic is back further. Also the 'grabber has to be positioned over the top of the cabinet because the sm58 I use is too heavy for it to stay in place on the side as advertised. I like the cable clips. We'll see if they can endure four to six venues a week. It's an excellent idea... it will be interesting to see the improvements or future competition. Finally it seems a bit pricey...

Great in tight spaces

By Sweetwater Customer on August 29, 2016

The advantage here is that its a space saver as it eliminates mic stands. The down side is that the end where the mic connects does not telescope. Meaning, you're married to a fixed mic placement relative to the speaker cone. Leaving the only alternative to place the mic off axis to one degree or another. I wish they would have made it a tad more flexible since not all cabinets are the same width. I don't hate it... but I do wish someone would have written a review describing its limitations before I bought it.

Good idea, fair execution.

By Dave from Illinois on October 19, 2015 Music Background: Semi-pro

I like the convenience of having the mic stand attach to the amp. The tightening system is not great though, and you really need to crank the nut tight so the mic doesn't rotate down if you're hooked to the side of the amp.
Also, for an amp with a thinner frame (the area surrounding the speaker, not the width of the cab itself) the clamps are a bit wide and then there's some play there too.
Overall I like the grabber though.

Not a great product, but it works.

By Gabriel on April 26, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist

Tricky thing if used with a Mesa Express 5:50 plus and a Sennheiser e906. It isn't versatil at all, it is designed for the i5 with some specific combo amps in mind, maybe amps with a smaller "lip" and not a wide cab. Anyway, I managed to attach it under the amp after removiming the two cable clips, that way the Cab Grabber gets the mic closser to the center of the speaker, and I also bought a Ball-Joint Mic Adapter to get the e906 closer to the grill if needed, it seems to work fine that way. Please notice tension in this thing can be really hard and leave some marks on the amp if its not placed carefully.

Good but not great

By Tim from Gilbert, Az on June 9, 2017 Music Background: Country

the feet do not wrap around the cabinet correctly for my Nashville 112?amp. they designed this as a one design fits all, not the case. Emailed tech support twice 1 month ago still no response needing to.

Second the knurled lock nut is so hard to turn by hand you need channel locks to tighten and loosen it enough to keep the arm from falling down out of place. I'm only using a sm 57 not a heavy mic at all.

Doesn't fit Fender Mustang

By Steven Hirsch from Burlington, VT on August 5, 2016

Audix is missing the boat by not paying more attention to amp models with flat/wide frames in the front. Would seem simple enough to have a two-piece plastic bracket with a section you can snap out to make it wider. I spent some quality time with a Dremel grinder and a set of files and was able to modify the front clamp to work well on my Mustang III. It was not fun, however.

Wonderful idea, poor execution

By Tim Casey from Boston USA on February 18, 2014 Music Background: Producer / engineer, musician

See the curved part? If it had extended another two inches from the main body before curving, there'd be enough room to mount a mic at 90Ú to the speaker without the mic head pushing into the speaker grill. You really need to buy a 6" gooseneck extension, which I found on amazon. Now I love the thing. But it's useless without the gooseneck.

cab grabber

By Andy Eckenrode from Montpelier, ohio on September 10, 2011 Music Background: Guitarist/Vocalist/Budding live sound tech

This piece works really well and eliminates a stand on stage making more room and less clutter. I think it should have had a mini boom on the end as it's difficult to get the mic close to the speaker cover - I used a mini snake adapter to do this but it makes it heavy and it wants to dip. With a little adjusting it does the job.

Its OK...meh

By Tony GLORIOSO from Long Beach, CA on February 16, 2023

The rubber grips HAVE to fit your amp or it won't work well. It doesn't fit my Marshall cabinet very well because if your cab is thicker than the inside of the rubber grip, it tends to move around.

Audix CabGrabber

By Drew from CA on April 4, 2019 Music Background: Semi Pro

Useless if you want to use a Sennheiser E906 close mic'd on a Marshall cab. The mic has to sit 3 or 4 inches away from the cab. I want it right next to the grill cloth. Works fine if you want to use an SM57.

Not what I had hoped

By Bryan from Florence, SC on April 2, 2019 Music Background: Guitar player 35+ years, home studio 6 years

I bought this to use in my tiny home studio for guitar amp miking. Space is at a premium, and this look like it could save me the footprint of a stand. Unfortunately, without the aid of a boom attachment, it would not reach any further across the speaker in my main guitar cab than the suspension. Also, my main cab has a flat back (no ridge). The Cab Grabber had a tendency to wobble out of position. With the boom on it, the wobble was exaggerated. Precise mic placement is not really the Cab Grabber's cup o tea. If you like to edge mic your cab with a 57 or i5 for live gigs, I'm sure it's fine. Anything else, use a stand. I returned it.

not universal

By Rey from Texas on November 27, 2012 Music Background: professional

Doesn't fit alot of cabs, actually the only cabs it fit well were the cheap cabs, won't work on anything boutique (morgan, fulton-webb, matchless, bad cat) it needs lips to fit around, so fenders, line 6, stuff like that have a lip around the edge, and this works well for that stuff, but like i said doesn't work well for anything without a lip aka morgans, or anything that has a large lip aka matchless, bad cat ect...

Meh... Good concept, poor execution

By Dustin from Colorado on September 21, 2012 Music Background: Semi-Pro/Weekend Warrior

Gigging with it for quite a while now, it clasps very well to my Bogner combo, I think because of the 3/4 open back. When using it on a 4x12 closed-back cabinet it slips and slides and generally is a total pain in the neck until you tweak it jus right for it to stay in place, and even then you have to watch it. If you've got a smaller combo with some edges for it to grab on to, it will probably be fine. If you don't, count on headaches. Rather than an internal bungee cord for tension, they should really look at a twist clamp mechanism - it would be much more stable and hang on to your rig better.

Not recommended

By David Purdy from Minnesota on March 16, 2015 Music Background: Played guitar 37 years, have a band for fun to play on weekends.

I bought this CabGrabber and the Audix Mic and cable. The mic and cable are tough and I love them. However, my band plays a different venue every time we play--so I am always setting up and tearing down. The metal used in this product is a cheap (I will call pig metal) so the threads strip really easy. If I try to tighten, I just keep turning the tightner and it keeps slipping. Audix, please use better quality metal in this product. Audix has a great name, but if you gig in different places, don't get this!!!!!! Now, I am a major customer of Sweetwater and this is the first time I have been unimpressed with something I purchased from them. The reason I am writing this review is because recently I had a gig and I was bummed that the threads were all stripped and wanted to let other musicians know.

CabGrabber lacks gripping power and tilts

By Jim from AZ on February 8, 2015 Music Background: Engineering

Great product idea; however, weak implementation.

CabGrabber does not properly stay in place with combos/cabinets that have thicker sidewalls. The two-depth pads simply do not grab properly nor provide enough tension.

Gripping tension is worse for right-side mounting, as the unit rotates out of position. Weak gripping power is even more problematic yet for applications using goosenecks (e.g., 1x12 combo amps with laterally centered speakers) to center mics at longer distances from edge.

I do not recommend this product, as holding the mic in exact position is the main requirement , and, this product does not hold for either studio or stage applications. Movement due to vibration is also a problem.

I tried to hook it up twice then threw it in the trash can

Broke within 20 seconds of opening

Product has a cheap bungee inside that keeps tension and within no joke 20 seconds of taking it out of the package the bungee pulls out of it clip that keeps the bungee attached to it self. My amp is the correct size. I do not need the XL. I was really looking forward to this product and am very disappointed in it. I tried to give it the benefit of doubt but not a good look unfortunately

not strong

I bought this thinking this would be the perfect set up after watching the attached video demonstration. But...look how small the microphone in the video is. That is the catch, use a standard size anything with any weight and you might as well call this useless. It does not support a standard sized microphone. it just falls as it cannot be tightened enough to support it.
So unless you are using an ultra lite mic, i would avoid this.
