Great Load Box, Useful Emulator
One thing that stood out was having controls on top essentially, instead of at basically whatever amp height you have or surface to sit on. Nice touch, and it's built like a tank. I mean I don't recommend dropping it but it looks like it could take some beatings and still keep going strong with its housing.
As far as the emulations felt they were well thought out and having 16 IR's banked out the gate to use. With the added attenuation which is extremely useful not too many complaints or reasons to not say it's not one of the better units on the market and fair price point.
They got this one right
I have a Mesa Triple Crown with a built in Cab Clone and always thought it was pretty bland sounding. I saw that Mesa released a new version with a reactive load, impulse responses and an attenuator so I took a chance and grabbed one. This version is so much better! The impulse responses are really good, and it supports using third party IRs as well. The midi functionality is great for changing IRs with my amp channels. The attenuator is outstanding. Full attenuation control as opposed to just one or two settings with another brand's device. No tone loss that I could tell. So far, I love this thing. Can't wait to use it live.
Indispensable Tool
I have had this for about 4 months now and it's an excellent tool for home, studio and live performance. Need to knock off 4 or 8 db from your live rig? No problem - and no tone loss. Want to rehearse with your full rig at your amp's optimal setting, with pedals, etc but without disturbing anyone? Just plug in the headphones. Want to record - the cab sims are excellent. This is a great tool - it is simple, has everything you need, and is built like a tank. I use it with my Mark V and it has become an indispensable problem solver.
Awesome for apartment living
Still get used to it but headphone option with multiple cabs. Love it. Great purchase
Great device
I actually got rid of the torpedo captor X to fund this. So far, I like it significantly better......it's more money, but in my opinion , the quality of the attenuator is worth it. You can literally get all the way down to very quiet volumes with no noticeable tone loss. I love the simplicity of it, no app or menus, just switch it to great sounding IRs. I like just plugging in and starting to play, no app or BS to mess with. I haven't loaded my own IRs in it yet, the build in ones sound great. My only complaint is the price and the size, the thing is a brick man, half the size of my mini rectifier. on another note though, it's also built like a brick, seems very high quality in terms of construction. The video with Jamie Humphries sold me, he's awesome
Overall great attenuator and loadbox
Before the CCIR Plus I was using a Rivera Rockcrusher for an attenuator and the DI into a DAW for IRs. It worked well, but I wanted an all in one solution without the need for my DAW. The CCIR Plus fits the bill. Having a handful of IRs to choose from is enough for me in most situations. If I need more control I just run it through WOS in my DAW (I own all the Mesa cabs anyway).
The CCIR Plus attenuator sounds transparent enough to me even at extreme attenuation. I'm running through a Mesa JP2C and 1x12 widebody mesa cab. The CCIR Plus does get warm, but never to the point I've been concerned about it.
The Loadbox portion works great also. I'm satisfied with the IRs the CabClone came with for the most part. Sounds like a mic'd mesa cab to me... Loading my own third party IRs was very easy. Just like moving files on a flash drive. No noise issues at all for me running into different interfaces and a mixer. The fan noise from the CabClone is noticeable if you are running silently as a load box and takeoff your headphones, mute the monitors, or possibly at whisper volumes through the attenuator. I do not see this ever being an issue. During use I would never hear it so this doesn't bother me.
My only minor nitpick with this device is the knobs don't have as noticeable a detent or smooth flow when twisting them as I would like. Very minor, but noticeable to me.
Overall very pleased with the form factor, features, and most importantly it works and sounds great!
