A Quick Stability Fix

By Tom B. from Warren, Michigan
Music Background: Choral and solo vocalist and acoustic guitarist.

I am using this counterweight with a K&M 21120 two piece mic boom and it works perfectly since the K&M boom has a plastic sleeve on the end that accommodates this unit. It would have been nice if On-Stage had included plastic sleeves with the counterweight to allow fitment to a variety of stands, but alas some buyers will no doubt be making a pilgrimage to the local hardware store for a piece of vinyl or rubber tubing to take up the slack. I knocked off one star for this and because it was initially difficult to get the thumbscrew to thread all the way in because the powdercoat paint was clogging the threads in the screw hole.

works great with a heater hose liner on 1/2" boom

By Doug M. from Beverly, MA

It fit awkwardly on my Pyle 1/2" diameter boom pole. I read a review indicating this was crafted for 3/4" diameter booms and the reviewer used cardboard as a filler to make it snug. I cut a 3" piece of 1" heater hose (automotive, I use it for sound isolation for venting motors) cut out enough of the rubber to create a gap for the 1/2" pole to be nudged through and it works perfectly...

sand bags goodbye!

By Terry G. from Kansas
Music Background: 65 years

I agree with first reviewer. it seems that companies are starting to catch up with needs in the home studio department. I didn't have any issues in fit on my boom stands. but am toying with the idea of using a foam pipe insulator?

Finally someone made universal counter weights!

By Walt

I've been asking sales people and manufacturers for these for quite some time. Finally someone is producing them. If they were available anywhere before, I had no luck finding them.
Typical boom rods are 1/2" in diameter and these are made to fit 3/4" diameter, but a simple fix is to cut a 2"x4" piece of cardboard, fold it into the slot and let it go around the boom rod making sure the adjustment screw is pushing on the cardboard so that it doesn't scratch up your boom rod. This has worked pretty good for me. The manufacturer should have included a pad or something for this purpose and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but cardboard is an easy and effective work-around.
I'll probably be buying more of these.
