Paired it with a Swamp Thang

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Self Taught Hobbies

I paired the CV75 with a swamp thang. Im using the combination in an extended range hardcore/ slam metal application. The CV75 runs a great mid range for an melodic runs and the Swamp Thang fattens up the Lows for rhythmic chord sections. I would recommend a high cut of some kind. Can get piercing somewhere in the 16k to 14k range.

Almost three years later...

By Patrick B. from Farmington, MO
Music Background: Guitar enthusiast.

This is an update on a speaker I purchased in late 2017. I've used this speaker in a few amps now (older roland blues cube, supro galaxy and now a bogner brixton) and it has performed wonderfully in all of them. It sounded broken in when I initially heard it, but it sounds a bit better now. My favorite quality is the late breakup (i.e. it holds together better when you give your amp the beans, I'm not a fan of cone breakup). Some folks may find the voicing a tad boxy, but that doesn't bother me. Your mileageay vary.

This made the difference

By Steve H. from Oshkosh, WI

I have a Peavey Bravo 112 all-tube practice amp that had a Jensen speaker in it. I was really disappointed at the feeble sound of the amp, so after reading reviews and listening to numerous sound samples on the Eminence website, I replaced the Jensen with an Eminence CV-75. What a fantastic improvement! My Bravo now has the beefy, authoritative tone I was looking for. It has a solid bottom end but retains clear high frequencies. The CV-75 is a great speaker.

High quality speaker

By Steven G. from Ypsilanti, Mi

I was looking for a replacement speaker for my Laney Cub12r. The original was ok, but got a bit "flubby" when used at volume or with the gain cranked up. I was thinking of a greenback or clone but my Sweetwater guy, Pat Weaver, said he thought the Red Coat would help my amp retain it's British vibe. He was correct, as usual. Plenty of chime in the high end, strong mids, and tight lows give this speaker a vintage UK sound and a new life to my combo amp.

Eminence Front - its. It a put on.

By Rich G. from Saugus, MA
Music Background: Amateur guitar player

Always liked Eminence speakers. This 12" Redcoat cv-75 captures the British sound like not other speaker in my opinion. For half the money of its Celestion "equivalent" you get twice the sound.

Totally awesome speaker. Try it, you'll love it.

Very wonderful.

By Patrick from Farmington, Missouri

From what I've read, this speaker is supposedly a massaged V30 design. I cannot speak for the english made ones (or the Mesa specific ones), but I can speak for a direct comparison to the chinese made ones (such as the ones that come in Orange cabs). Using that for my frame of reference, wow. The CV is, to my thankful ears, far and away a superior speaker. The midrange focus is no longer sharp/piercing and the low end is just a bit tighter. Overall the speaker is much more articulate and complex chords shine through in their entirety (that being said, I speculate that the shift in the mids probably has the lion's share to do with this). I greatly enjoy that I can boost the treble on my pedals and it doesn't sound fizzy or unpleasant. If you're looking for a great speaker that will play nice in a great many roles, I suggest you try this one.

these are good

By Sweetwater Customer

...much prefer the cv-75 over the g12h-30 70th. Warm but still resonant, un-harsh in the high end & not mid-scooped like the g12h-30

No ice pick

By Andy from Arkansas
Music Background: rock guitar player since 1967

I ordered the CV-75 for 3 reasons: it is made in the USA, it has a sensitivity of 102.2 dB, and, according to reviews it lacked the fizzy treble spike top end I wish to avoid.

I installed the speaker in a 1986 Carvin 1X12 X-Amp. I get a round, full tone with plenty of bite but without the ice pick treble I mentioned, even with the presence control turned up. The sensitivity lets the amp get loud and stay clean. I get distortion from OD pedals although the amp will overdrive nicely (6L6/12AX7 tubes) if I want. My LaPatrie classical guitar also sounds very nice through the amp now.

It's hard to try a bunch of speakers when you know up front they can't be returned. I did good trying this one. I prefer it over the Celestion G12M-70, G12T-75, and Weber California 12 I've tried in the amp over the last 29 years.

Summary; the CV-75 is a loud efficient speaker good for clean or distorted tones. I've played rock and country gigs using Telecaster and Carvin DC-125 guitars. It would probably feel at home in a 4X12 sealed cab as well as a 1-2X12 open back combo. I am happy.

Eminence CV-75 speaker the bomb!!!

By randy T. from United States
Music Background: 15 years guitar experience and sound egineering hobbist

This speaker sounds absolutely incredible!!!! I replaced it in a Peavey Bandit which had a sheffield 1230 and this CV-75 just improved the sound 2 fold. This really makes my amp sing. It gives you great power and sounds just like described. Its a British voiced amp with tight bass/nice low and high mids/and a airy high which is wonderful not harsh at all. Cleans sound smooth and with heavier gain gives you a rockin classic rock to 80's metal kinda sound. You can defintely tell Eminence did their homework for ten years developing this speaker. Thanks Eminence for a great product and Sweetwater for the awesome service.
