PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar - Quilted Black Gold Sunburst Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Quilted Black Gold Sunburst

The PRS SE Custom 24 solidbody electric guitar puts the sound, playability, and gorgeous looks of the Custom line into a more affordable instrument. The SE Custom 24's mahogany body and maple top now feature a more traditional "violin" body carve, giving it the feel of top-level Custom 24 guitars. A pair of 85/15 "S" pickups delivers a wealth of superb humbucking or single-coil tones. Its maple neck features a Pattern Thin shape for comfortably fast playability, and the ebony fretboard is adorned with old school Birds inlays for that iconic PRS look. This guitar is an authentic PRS through and through, and a time-tested favorite among guitarists here at Sweetwater!

5 Star

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2024

Wow - really wonderful instrument. This has NYXL .09-.46 strings which are SO nice. The overall tone can be adjusted via the knobs on the guitar body, as well as that pop-up feature on the tone control. It is lightweight. Really seems to respond very well tone adjustments. Plays like butter - just a great feel.

Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 Quilted maple top

By Robert Smethers from Effingham, IL on January 12, 2024 Music Background: Performing musician since 1960

The setup and action are both perfect right out of the box. After a little tuning adjustment the guitar was ready to go. No high frets or sharp edges, fit and finish is perfect, sound is great, all tuners and sound pots and switches work perfectly. All guitar brands should be set up and delivered with this attention to detail. Some are, unfortunately some are not. It's worth paying a couple extra dollars on most guitars. PRS guitars seem to have their act together on setups and build quality. My new PRS Custom is now my main guitar ( I have 37) I also have several Martin an Taylor guitars but I'm thinking I may need a PRS acoustic just because of the build quality I find in this brand. I have never been sorry that I bought the best I could afford, but have been disappointed a few times when I tried to skimp on price and let quality suffer.

Great Guitar

By Scott Berzin from Tarpon Springs, Florida on January 12, 2024 Music Background: Play live gigs

I purchased this guitar from the local music store in town. I immediately sent it to a local guitar luthier to have it set up. This guitar plays better than any higher priced Gibsons I have owned to date. I have a couple of SE PRS guitars and they are all great. I'm now looking at the S2 594 single cut to add to my collection. The thing I greatly appreciate about the PRS SE and S2, they are quality guitars that I can take to the clubs I play and I don't have to worry about babysitting a $4,000 Gibson so it doesn't get stolen.

Great Playing Guitar!

By Shawn Mann from BLANCHESTER, OH on January 5, 2024 Music Background: guitarist, singer, worship leader

I bought this guitar, but was hesitant about the neck. I played on a PRS Custom 24 SE at Guitar Center with the 'Wide Thin' neck and it did feel wide. The description of the PRS Custom 24 SE that I bought has the 'Pattern Thin' neck and it feels like a Wizard 2 Ibanez neck! Absolutely perfect!! I have read that the Wide Thin and Pattern Thin are the same, but from my experience, they are NOT the same. The headstock is matched to the body and looks amazing. If you are looking for a great playing and sounding guitar right out of the box, this PRS Custom 24 SE Quilted top maple is the one to get! My Sweetwater sales rep was awesome through the purchase process.

Amazing

By Rahul Shanker from Windermere, FL on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Learning for 30 years (Genres: Classic Rock, Soft Rock, Country)

I worked with Garrhett (my sales engineer), on getting the guitar ordered on Black Friday, was delivered 6 days later. I had to sit on my hands for 24 hours before unpacking the box (I ate the sweets while waiting :)). Started playing it on Friday and finally put it away Sunday night. What an amazing instrument, the sounds from the humbuckers is outstanding. I played it clean for most of the time with a little bit of reverb dialed in. The tone splitting works, but the humbuckers are simply outstanding. They deliver a rich sound, splitting the coils and switching to a brighter setting on my amp (Blackstar Debut 50r), reminded me of my old telecaster. I would highly recommend this instrument the ebony fingerboard is easy to use, the quilting on the top is gorgeous. I would highly recommend this instrument.

Sweetwater and Garrhett rock!

For the price this guitar cannot be beat

Follow up review

By Donald Whitesel from Pennsylvania on December 7, 2023 Music Background: Advanced Intermediate

After having my PRS SE Custom 24 awhile I wanted to write a follow up review. The 85/15 pickups are voiced bright which to my under standing what PRS was going for. While it's not a bad thing it's just not my cup of tea as the saying goes. A great alternative is the Seymour Duncan SH 2 & 4. My choice is the SD Whole Lotta Humbucker which I think will suit me better. As for the candy and big shout out to my sales rep Colton and the shipping department for all the candy. You folks definitely rock.

Beautiful guitar. Well crafted but needs work to set up.

By Edgar Montemayor from Monterrey, Mexico on March 20, 2024

The craftmanship is beautiful and it feels great in my hands until I start playing it. The action is slightly high but enough to put me off. After spending many hours setting it up over the last couple months I've come to accept I'd need to spend a few hundred extra dollars in a fret job to get it to play like my other guitars. Still undecided if I should do that or just sell it while is still like new. I bought it as an upgrade to my 2009 Korean PRS SE but I still like to play the old one better even if the new one is far prettier. I really want to like it but can't help feeling disappointed with the guitar as it came from the factory.
