Alhambra Crossover CS-3 CW E8 Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Classical Guitar Reviews

Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Guitar with Cedar Top, Rosewood Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Natural

The Alhambra Crossover CS-3 CW E8’s masterful marriage of traditional Spanish craftsmanship and crossover features makes for a nylon-string acoustic-electric that’s ready to take on any stage, anywhere. This guitar’s tonewood foundation features a singing solid red cedar top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides, resulting in a rich and robust tonality that blooms and resonates with even the most delicate pluck. These time-tested tonewoods are joined to a mahogany neck, with a deep cutaway to provide full access to the ebony fingerboard’s 19 frets. Furthermore, this guitar’s rich and complex unplugged tone resounds on the stage with complete acoustic authenticity thanks to the Fishman Flex M electronics. Finally, the CS-3 CW E8 comes complete with a slimmed-down 1.89-inch nut width and a radiused fingerboard to provide crossover steel-string guitarists with a more familiar and comfortable feel.

Alhambra Crossover

By Sweetwater Customer from TX
Music Background: 43 yrs playing stringed instruments.

This guitar. This one…because I know guitars are all not created equal even when all else is the same…this one is a killer! She is Isabella… plays sweetly and response well with different attacks. I have played it against a number of manufacturers(Martin, Taylor, Cordova, Alvarez, etc.) and their different models both traditional classical design and crossovers. This one hands down trumped them in sound and projection. I will admit - one Cordova (high priced China) did come within 70 percent.

Now for the sweet icing on the top; the electronics are stellar. Fishman piezo and microphone capable with blend, phase, and tone adjustments. Absolutely phenomenal! I like when virtually any setting is the magic… just can't mess it up. Fool proof… for me, that is worth its weight in gold. …. And these just dropped in price!

Aesthetically pleasing. It's the little things.
Gold ornate tuners
Etched "A" inside on the neck block
Simple Elegant headstock and logo design
Artistic attention and designed bridge
Neck is where the compensation is done for lower treble string action. ( nice slab of ebony)

Excellent Instrument

By Scott from Land that Time Forgot, Colorado
Music Background: Playing 40 years now..

I play lead in an acoustic guitar duo with my wife and often a percussion player. We lean nuevo flamenco/latin jazz/blues. This guitar has amazing projection and it just sings when played mindfully. A player can get so much out of this instrument if they look for subtlety. With the extra hard tension strings it comes with it's a bit harder to play and the bass notes are Loud and Proud. They seemed to dominate the higher strings so I switched strings. The Diadario hard tension strungs are more playable, have more balance, but I've lost some of the projection of the original strings.

So.... I think this is a great instrument, but I'm working to find the right strings for playability, tone and punch.

It's pricey, but it's Goooood. If you can swing it.... Get It.

Only one issue that may be resolvable

By John H. from Vero Beach, Florida
Music Background: Amateur. Playing for many years.

I had a nice Ramirez guitar I sold because the flat fretboard just does not work for me. The choices on these higher quality crossover guitars are still fairly limited so after much research I selected this one. It is a well made, attractive quality instrument that plays very easily but you are not going to see a lot of reviews on it in the United States. I found one YT video that really was not very detailed. Just a company representative playing one for a few minutes.

So having said this, I am keeping the guitar. The only complaint I have, if you want to call it that, relates to the trebles. I have a $ Cordoba Fusion which I really like and the trebles on that guitar sound better to my ear particularly in the higher registers. They have a more "ringing clear articulated presence. Maybe I am just used to that sound since I have been playing the Cordoba for about 3 years.

This may possiblybe addressed and resolved by experimenting with different strings. However, this one consideration is not significant enough for me to return the instrument, since the trebles on the Alhambra still sound very good. By the way, the bass strings sound better on this guitar. A bigger more resonant sound.

Overall I recommend this guitar. Unfortunately there is no brick and mortar store that offers 3-4 for the top models for testing so you have to play the buy and return game until you find the one that suits you best.
