Impressed with the crisp low-end!
If you give me a choice, I'll always buy the more expensive product. I own Moog, Nord, Elektron, KRK Speakers & Apple...However, I needed compact desktop speakers for my laptop and work desk (for basic Web Browsing/Youtube/Spotify/Etc). I was very impressed with the Mackie Cube's delivery of how tight & crisp the low-end is, I ended up just sitting at my desk last night for like 2 hours listening to music, exploring their sonic capability. Everything from dub techno, instrumental hip hop, drum & bass to Metallica/Slipknot. I'm very impressed with these $ desktop speakers! Take a peak at my home studio...
CR2-X Review
I bough these to use with Abelton Lie and playing music. They do give several options to connect (USB, 1/8 connector and bluetooth). They do have great sound. I would have liked for them to be able to go a bit louder. However, they are listed as "desktop" speakers, so they do serve the purpose for this!
Could have been 5 stars.....
Pros:
1. Great sound
2. Unique design
3. Universal with the bluetooth option
4. Touch volume slider is cool
Cons:
1: Pricey, compared to other highly rated computer speakers
2. Power switch is on the back of the speaker\
3. No RGB lights, just a large green 'power on' light on one speaker (symmetry?)
4. The 4 corner green strips do not light up
5. Powering on defaults to volume level 3, and announces 'POWER ON'! Annoying, and too loud. Why not default to last volume setting, and skip the announcement? These are speakers, not headphones.
6. RCA connection between speakers is a carry-over from the Radio Shack days. It works, but with other options....why?
I realize my expectations were high, due to the higher cost. I think the designers missed some opportunities here. Easy fixes, for a Gen 2 release. If you don't care about any of the Cons, these speakers are for you.
