Yamaha Music Rest
Nothing spectacular about this item other than it serves it purpose.
Music Rest
It fits onto the keyboard. Its sturdy, the grooves on it helps to hold the pages in place. With this feature I have good eye contact with the music.
Music rest for Yamaha CP88
The music rest blends well with the overall look of the CP88. It has two mounting studs on its bottom that slide perfectly into the mounting brackets already on the rear of the keyboard.
I never use printed music scores for gigs. I usually have just a playlist of titles and key signatures, and maybe a chart or two for numbers I haven't played in a while. My gigs are mostly non-revenue incidental music for banquets, wedding receptions, nursing / assisted-living homes , etc., and house parties. All that to say that the music rest is plenty adequate to hold the few sheets of paper I need. I don't think it would be adequate to hold a Chicago metro phonebook. (Not very many musical pieces in one of those anyway, I don't think.)
Works as I expected.
This was recommended to me by my Sales Associate Dave Snow and it is working very well. Fits the YC 88 keyboard perfectly and the music rest sits solidly into the slots already on the keyboard.
I'd give it five stars it it were just two inches taller/higher so that music wouldn't be sticking out over the top and in the face of the audience. Short of that, it is an excellent product and I'm happy I bought it. Also, there is a partition in the storage gig bag of the Yahama case for the keyboard. Nice plus.
Strong and wide, a bit short
Overall pretty happy with this music rest. It fits well into the brackets on the back of our YC-88, though it could fit a little tighter and be a little less wobbly. It's not that I'm afraid it's going to break or fall off, I just wish it wiggled a little less in the brackets. The construction of the rest itself seems very sturdy.
It holds a spiral bound hymnal comfortably, which is the heaviest thing I can imagine putting on it. It is quite wide, which is nice as well. However, it is a little shorter than I would like. This hasn't been a problem for something stiff, like a hymnal or a binder, but it doesn't do a great job holding loose sheets of paper.
$ for a piece of plastic
This must be a sick joke from Yamaha. They charge you $ for a cheap piece of plastic but you need to buy it if you want a music rest because it has specific mounting pins for the keyboard. The pins don't even lock into place so there is a little wobble if you place music on it or play particularly hard. I would save your money and buy a Manhasset music stand, which is half the price, adjustable, made of metal, and will survive any sort of stress or accident.
