Fender CN-140SCE - Natural Reviews

Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Guitar with Solid Cedar Top, Rosewood Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fretboard, and Fishman Electronics - Natural

Whether you're primarily a steel-string player looking for a comfortable classical, or you're looking for an affordable nylon-string guitar that is easy to get around on, the Fender CN-140SCE fits the bill. Its thinline construction and narrow nut width are ideal for both live performance and playing for your own enjoyment. The natural projection of its solid cedar top is warm and detailed, with a natural compression that makes every note pop. And to help capture that sound live, Fishman electronics are built in. The CN-140SCE is a great choice if you want the classical-guitar sound with a steel-string feel.

Excellent Value!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 10, 2021 Music Background: Player for 50+ years

The CN-140SCE is a unique guitar in several ways. It has a 000 body with a thin cross section making for an easy to play, lightweight instrument. It has a Fishman pickup for excellent sound amplification. It has nylon strings in a classical guitar format, but has the same neck width as on typical steel string acoustics. Plus, it has excellent fit and finish. True, the tuners aren't the best features and may require replacing, but given the incredibly low price this guitar costs, replacing tuners aren't that large an expense. Add to all that the fact that it comes with a very nice hard shell case and it's would be tough to beat the value.

Fender CN140SCE

First time I ever purchased a nylon string guitar, although I've played a few before. Was very impressed with the sound, craftsmanship, and slimmer neck. Recommend this guitar highly. Thanks to Ed at Sweetwater and his professionalism, I have found my new "music store."

Nice!

I was looking to get a thin nylon guitar and I found this and it"s a great guitar. slim body, neck is smaller than traditional nylon guitars but I had no problem adjusting to it, the only thing is that if your looking for big sound you will have to use with an amp. It"s not as loud unplugged do to it"s thinner body.

Fender CN-140 SCE (Natural) Nylon String

By Wayne from Tennessee on February 1, 2018 Music Background: Teaching / Christian music outreach ministry

The Fender CN-140 Nylon surpassed all my expectation. Does it compare with a $3000+ Taylor? Uh,........no. What it does do is give me that occasional "Nylon" sound when I need it. What surprised me, however, was the quality in both appearance and performance you wouldn't expect in this price range of instrument. The guitar is detailed nicely, with surprisingly consistent workmanship. The finish is very pleasing.

The neck and fretting is quite good, with the exception that I noted the fret edges had a distinctly "sharp" outer edge. A few careful strokes of a fine file eliminates this. The Fishman preamp affords a wide tonal balance. Unamplified, the guitar obviously doesn't project like a steel string, which works well for me when I want to play softly without disturbing my family. Amplified, it sounds great. The included hard shell case in very well made, and not one of those "chipboard" clunkers we've all seen.

If you need an affordable Nylon string guitar, this is an excellent choice, especially considering the price. I would also recommend it as a great 'beginner guitar' for students, young,........... or,... not so young. I rate the instrument at a strong 4.5.

My personal sales engineer, T.J.Bechill, can provide you with excellent service and after-the-sale follow up just as he has for me for several years. Sweetwater really goes that extra mile!

Very Nice Guitar

By Coulter from Pacific Northwest on January 31, 2018 Music Background: Semi-pro, Guitarist, Composer.

This guitar was exactly what I was looking for with a narrow neck and built-in tuner/output jack. Great feel, lightweight and very nice sound.

Initially, I had some trouble with chording and strings 1-3 looked higher at the nut and the bridge than the other strings. Although I made a slight adjustment on the truss rod (a nice feature), I ended up taking it to a local luthier who looked at it and promptly said the neck was warped. He then made a much larger adjustment on the truss rod and adjusted the action. Be aware you may have to have the action adjusted once you receive it but once you get it set up, you'll really love the sound and feel of this Fender.

Sweet!

This slim, lightweight classical lives up to its Sweetwater description across the board, IMO. I can only speak for this particular instrument, but it has a sweet tonal quality, is easy to play, and appears to be very well made (although some might consider it a bit delicate).. I bought it for use as a transitional instrument following surgery and rehab - it plays well lying in bed. I think its utility will last much longer, however. If you are looking for top-of-the-line classical tone/volume or stage-worthy, road warrior toughness, this probably is not your instrument. But if your expectations are reasonable, you have the need for what this guitar does very well, and can get past the "Fender" on the headstock and the off-shore lineage, you may be as happy as me. Hats off again to Tommy Winter for his outstanding work in making this selection!

Bad quality tuners and other materials

By Ciro on June 6, 2020

This guitar is delicate to play. Great design, good sound and feels good when you get used to the smaller string spacing. Is a big pleasure to play this one with light/extra light strings - plugged in or purely acoustic. Good sound projection for the size of the box. Also has screws to attach common electric guitar straps. Very good. The problem is the general quality of the materials they use for building this guitar...(the construction is great!) Idon't know if it's a reliable guitar or a "disposable" one. The plastic pipe on the little E tuner started to crack/break for no real reason, and when i looked more closely, so bad quality plastic..! This guitar is expensive, why fender does not use better materials?! Can't recomend this guitar because it's way too much fragile, more than should be.
