Cordoba Mini II FMH Nylon String Acoustic Guitar - Flamed Mahogany Reviews
If you've been wanting to get into classical guitar but have been put off by the playability, Sweetwater suggests checking out the Cordoba Mini II. It's a nylon-string acoustic with a smaller body size, fingerboard width, and scale length that's perfect for younger or petite players and also electric guitarists seeking an affordable and accessible classical guitar. Its smaller dimensions also make the Mini II ideal for air travel and weekend getaways. But make no mistake: the Cordoba Mini II is a legit instrument that just happens to be small!

Very pretty little guitar!
This is a really cute and playable little guitar! I really love the flamed mahogany wood, looks really classy. It's a lot louder than you would expect for such a small instrument. I think it sounds really nice, and I like that it has strap buttons. I think it's the perfect compromise between the small size of a ukulele but the playability of a guitar. Sweetwater did a nice job packing it up and I was delighted that it came to me in pristine condition.
First time with a nylon string guitar
I bought this guitar for traveling. When I received the guitar I was very impressed with its appearance. The flamed mahogany is beautiful. It took way longer for the nylon strings to stretch out compared to steel strings, but after a couple weeks they have stabilized and only need occasional minor tweaking to tune it up. It sounds good, although it took me a bit to get used to the different sound. At first I thought it sounded like a toy, but now that I'm used to it, both hearing it and playing it, it sounds fine.
For the price, I call it the best.
Impressed
I've never had a nylon string guitar before this one. This one is beautiful and sounds good. I wanted a smaller guitar so I could sit back in my recliner and still play. This fills that bill guide nicely. The only issue I had was that my son loved it as well. Now I don't own that anymore, but not to worry I have ordered another one that should ship today. Bill.
Its been a long time
Its been about seventy years since I have played a guitar. Bought this smaller version to seee if I can get back to playing again.
It arrived packaged doubled boxed and in perfect shape.Shipping was
faster than I expected.
The MINI was a bit smaller than I thought but in my case trying to play again after all these years I think it will work out just fine. Can not wait to get stsrted.
Amazing Mini Guitar!!!
I've had my eye on this little guitar for quite some time. I almost purchased the Mahogany model while on vacation this summer however the store I was going to purchase it from did not have a gig bag or case for the Mini II. I did not want to risk any damage on the plane therefore passed up the opportunity. I must say I am glad I waited and went for the Flame Mahogany model instead. It is such a beautiful guitar with amazing wood tones and the tortoise shell binding is the cherry om top! The Mini II sounds great and feels great. Would recommend.
Great Small & Sweet guitar
I loved it from the day I saw it, its appearance is magnificent, when I tried it I was surprised at how good it sounded, but I have too many guitars in my collection until one appeared on sale and there I did not doubt it, it is a beautiful instrument, both aesthetically and sonically very light and simple to play very comfortable I recommend it for those beginners who are self-conscious with a normal size it is like a toy but it really sounds like a real guitar.
Great Travel Guitar
This guitar sounds absolutely beautiful...quite shocking for the size and price tag. The flamed mahogany look is sharp, and the build quality of the instrument feels solid. Overall great instrument for what it is.
Sweet companion
Having a full-size guitar, I recently decided to try ukuleles. I really enjoyed beginning to learn to play the uke. But I didn't want to leave the guitar behind. But carrying the full-size around Was a bit cumbersome and I really liked the Cordoba ukes. I am thrilled with the quality and sound and size of the mini Cordoba. A great companion.
Impressive Cordoba (again!)
The Cordoba Mini II is a miniature guitar. I love the size of the body and the neck. The slightly shorter scale makes for ease of play and the string spacing is perfect for classical / fingerpicking.
The tone woods do make this small guitar sound as rich and wonderful as physics allow. Cordoba did an impressive job of delivering a great sounding, well balanced, versatile guitar that is SETUP beautifully. Many instruments in this price range are poorly set up. The playability right out of the box is amazing. The action is low set and the intonation is superb even in the higher registers. Volume is amazing for the setup. The strings that come with the guitar are very good. I also bought the Cordoba Mini M, which is like a tiny 6 string Ukulele. That too is well set up and plays and sounds great. This review and that review are very similar in praise of Cordoba.
Craftmanship is SUPERB. The fit and finish, and quality of materials, is just amazing. Fretwork is excellent for both guitars. This is definitely NOT a toy guitar. I would feel proud to bring this up on stage, it looks so incredible, especially with the flamed top. Don't hesitate, this is a fun little guitar, and is offered at a fantastic price, and represents true value for the money. RECOMMENDED.
I wasn't familiar with the Cordoba line of guitars, but after seeing these offerings, I feel confident that their premium guitars are also just as carefully made, and I will consider more purchases of the Cordoba brand.
Fantastic!
An absolute masterpiece! Plays great, incredibly resonant, no fret issues, and stays in tune like no other guitar in this price range. Might get another one!
And, as always, Sweetwater support and shipping was top notch!
Wonderful in many ways!
I'm very much a casual musician. I have a classical guitar but I'm most comfortable with my baritone ukulele because of how much smaller the body is (but, unfortunately, I lose out on some range). That said, I think the size of this guitar is absolutely perfect. I prefer to actually hold the instrument I'm playing as opposed to feeling like I'm hiding behind it. Since this is tuned to standard EADGBE, it's a win-win.
The fact that this 1/2-size guitar has a full-sized "wide neck" means it's great for finger-picking. I find it extremely comfortable, but that's a matter of preference based on your hand size.
I did my research before buying this and read that many other customers were unhappy with sharp frets, but mine didn't have this problem. The tuners are solid too. I've purchased more expensive instruments that fell flat in this aspect.
It sounds great, however, the A and D strings are unraveling near the nut (and that's right out of the box). It's not a big issue, but I'll be replacing the strings sooner than I originally thought.
In person, this guitar is much prettier than the pictures show. The coloring is slightly richer, and the tortoise-style binding and rosette are very eye-catching.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge Sweetwater's customer service. I exchanged an instrument before settling on this one and I couldn't be happier with the experience. They are extremely easy to work with.
A first review, what an honor!
I have played guitar for over 20 years in ranges from experimental metal to Villa Lobos etudes; I've never considered myself a professional, but I know good guitars vs. bad.
This is a *premium* student guitar, so much so that I find myself returning to it to practice myself daily. I am more than happy with the product, and here is why.
Pros:
Surprising amount of sustain for such a small body! What it lacks in volume and punch is easily compensated by a rich, long lasting voice.
The woods are beautifully figured. Who cares if it is a veneer, or non solid? You paid <$200 for a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that JUST HAPPENS to play beautifully. I say count your blessings.
I heard many reviews of these lower end guitars having sharp frets or other overlooked bits of craftsmanship. My guitar was in smooth, polished condition. I believe QC gets much better with time.
Cons:
A bit of buzz on the low strings when played with force. This is to be expected, but ironically it made low position flamenco playing sound appropriate.
This is just a personal stickler, but it smells highly of Titebond or other industrial adhesive. I may try inflating some cedar in the box to give it a more natural aroma.
Conclusion:
If you're looking for an inexpensive, premium guitar on which to learn, look no further. If you're a professional with $150 extra, get one for the collection, you will not be disappointed.
If you think paying anything less than $1000 is the only way to get great sound, then enjoy wasting your money :)
Cordoba Mini II FM
Having a top end Cordoba, like the Gipsy Kings FCWE (great guitar; my new go too), I expected at least a decent "professional sound." Once I tuned this guitar, it was the worst unenthusiastic sound imaginable (dull sound). I was very surprised that others have given it 5 stars; perhaps I got a dud, who knows. Just turned off.
Luckily, my friends at Sweetwater understand musicians. I am replacing it for the Gretsch Guitarlele, keeping my fingers crossed.
