Cordoba Mini II Bass MH-E Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar - Mahogany
Cordoba Mini II Bass MH-E Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar - Mahogany Reviews
If you've been wanting to get into acoustic electric bass but have been put off by the playability, Sweetwater suggests checking out the Cordoba Mini II Bass MH-E. It's an acoustic electric bass with a smaller body size, fingerboard width, and scale length that's perfect for younger or petite players and also electric guitarists seeking an affordable, accessible — and fun — bass instrument. Its smaller dimensions also make the Mini II ideal for air travel and weekend getaways. But make no mistake: the Cordoba Mini II is a legit acoustic electric bass that just happens to be small!

Perfect Little Bass
This is my first bass. I will give you both my feedback and my teacher's as well. First, my teacher. Teacher is professional bass player. He could not take his hands off this bass! The sound is amazing and for the price I do not think you will do better. I am a classically trained musician and this thing makes a great continuo. My teacher and I played some Handel with him on the continuo and me on recorder and it sounded great. Very easy to tune it to 415 as well. Only drawback is that I am left handed and play that way. Short term solution is I turned it upside down and that works.
Such a fun lil travel bass
This thing is awesome, compact, sounds and plays great unplugged (not super loud, but again it's small) and kicks butt when plugged into an amp. I got it as a bass to mess around with on vacation and weekend trips, but it finds its way into my hands all sorts of times. Sitting in bed plucking gently while my lady reads a book, on the couch while the kids watch TV, its the best. Do recommend
Cordoba Mini II Bass
The bass arrived in perfect condition earlier than estimated. Workmanship at this price point is amazing. Unplugged sound is fine for practicing the bass alone which is why I purchased it. Amplified sound is better than expected.
I am still learning the bass and hopefully I will practice more, but the difference in size is makes it difficult to go back and forth between it and my Fender Mustang (great bass also from Sweetwater). Perhaps it will be an experience that may not pan out for me, but it is too inexpensive and fun to play to return it.
A great bass at a price you can't turn down: Cordoba Mini II Bass MH-E Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar - Mahogany
This instrument is really extraordinary. I'm a professional guitarist who has also played bass for decades. I was looking for a bass mini as an alternative to my P bass and huge acoustic Tacoma Chieftain. Had tried the Taylor which didn't impress me at all. That's all I needed to pull the trigger. I'll go over the features so you'll be convinced to get one ASAP:
Acoustic sound: very impressive, full, warm, satisfying without amplification. Probably works fine with another acoustic gtr or two, but depends on how hard they play.
Fingerboard is very responsive and pleasingly resonant on your fingers. Lots of sustain on both fretted and open strings. This is a SATISFYING INSTRUMENT to play. I couldn't put it down.
E strinis a bit muddy, pitch not as distinct (see comments about the .090 gauge below).
Design and craftsmanship: surprisingly excellent from top to bottom.
Really lightweight, very balanced in your hands. Some have complained about bad intonation and sharp fret edges. No issues with mine. The frets could use a nice pro polishing to avoid premature wear from the phosphor bronze covered strings. So that may cost you $ but is well worth it.
Possible Styles: The phosphor bronze wrap will definitely give you a more metallic acoustic guitar sound if the EQ onboard and amp is set flat. But with the right EQ and right hand attack, this will work for Jazz, Acoustic music, Brazilian, Salsa (play using hand mute and thumb over the soundhole), maybe some light rock if you use a pick of some sort. I'm just a fingers player.
Pickup: Super hot preamp signal. I mean HOT. Even a small 30W Acoustasonic guitar amp is plenty.
Play it through a cab with a 12" and some power and you will be blown away by the sound. Lots of tone possibilities depending on how close or far from the bridge your right hand attack is.
3 band EQ has a nice sweep for customizing your sound (those who want warmer will need to roll off treble),
Phase switch acts as a low pass filter, cleans up the sound a bit but loses some of the body.
Tuner is a nice gesture but is not as accurate as the clip-ons. I tune by matching harmonics anyway.
IMPORTANT Good news: STRING VOLUME is EQUAL across all strings. That is an absolute must if you want to use this on actual gigs.
Neck: super comfortable slim profile, 1.75" width at the nut is just the right string spacing.
Natural satin finish on body very subtle, clean.
Bridge and saddle are robust and (I think) saddle and nut are real bone.
Truss rod? YES- Allen wrench adjustment is just inside the sound hole, wrench included. My neck is totally straight, so no adjustment needed.
Action & Setup: Playable out of the box. In higher parts of fingerboard (above the 12th fret) action may become a bit high for some players- and the intonation stays pretty decent. Most players will be living in the bottom 7 frets anyway.
Strings: D'Addario set of phosphor bronze coated "multi-filament" core (made originally for the Taylor). They somehow got this 23" string scale to play the low bass notes with enough string tension to produce good volume and tone.
Gauges: 37-50-62-90 The first three string gauges are perfect. The 90 is too huge of a jump from .062 (in my opinion), and does not sound as clearly and responsive as the others (acoustically or amplified). I will be contacting D'Addario to see if they they have tried lighter gauges without them being floppy and buzzy. IBut 've gotten used to it already.
Attention CELLISTS looking for a fun travel instrument:
I've tuned this bass C-G-D-A so it is a contra cello. I can play the Bach solo suites on this and it's a blast. The typical string scale for a cello is between 26-27". This bass is a bit shorter @ 23", so that's close enough, right? The low C is a bit muddy due to the above mentioned .090 thick gauge for the E string.
Endpin Jack: Excellent metal mounting plate with screws. Very sturdy design.
Honestly, Cordoba hit this one out of the park and for an insanely affordable price. Hopefully the craftsmanship is consistently good like mine so you don't have to return it. I have to thank my great rep Judd in Artist Relations for taking good care of me all these years.
Read MoreGood but has its drawbacks
The bass sounds great but has a fatal flaw, common with very short scale basses, that the further up the neck you go, the more out of tune it gets. If you stay below the 5th-fret mark you'll have no issues, but any higher than that and you'll notice it sounding off.
Beginner
I'm a senior beginner and a small one at that. This guitar is beautiful and fun to learn some chords. Was afraid to tune the first time but learned strings needed significant tightening.
Cordoba Mini II Bass MH-E Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar
I love this small-scale bass, the Cordoba Mini II. It's lightweight and well equipped with built-in tuner and nice electronics. I purchased this bass to teach my wife, a 70 year old, how to play bass. She loves it, and it's very easy to play. I highly recommend this bass.
Wife loves it
Early present (kind of). My wife is short and wanted an acoustic-electric bass that was very short scale. This thing is about the size of a mini guitar, not a 3/4, so just know that going in. Good tuners, adequate pickup and slinky short scale make it fun for her to play. It's a great starter or for occasional, non-pro giggers.
Best Beginner Bass
This is my first bass and I have been practicing for 5 months now. This guitar is hands down easy to play and the sound even without an amp is very rich and deep. I recommend anyone who would love to start playing bass or has already been playing this budget acoustic electric bass!!!
No complaints
Such a beautiful looking and sounding little bass. Love the smaller size. Good quality, well packaged, arrived quickly, and no damage from shipping. Came exactly as advertised. Definitely worth what I paid for it. :)
Cordoba Mini 2 Bass
What a beautiful instrument, not only beautiful but sounds fabulous. My previous acoustic bass was to big for me and this one is perfect. The tone not even plugged in sounds big and rich. Want to add the customer service at Sweetwater is the best. Happy camper here.
Purpose Built
I have been shopping smaller acoustic basses because I have developed back problems. This little beast is quite perfect, practically weightless compared to my electric. The plugged in sound is not the same as my electric, the pickup here definitely hears more finger touches so there is a learning curve to find "my" sound. The ability to play without power is really nice, as my playing is generally in a more intimate environment not really needing to be as loud as my amp can get. However, if playing with louder instruments, this might not carry very well and need to be amplified.
Strings
Word of caution. If you change strings then DO NOT use anything other than the origional equipment strings. I tried to get fancy and use some flatwound D'Addario's and the intonation was terribly sharp going up the fretboard. So I put some origional equipment D'Addario XTB3790GS Taylor GS Mini's back on it and it stays in tune all the way up the neck.
I love this little bass
It's perfect for its price. Only downside (which goes for any acoustic bass) is if you plug in, the mic inside of it will pick up sounds which creates a very loud hum. But I'm not knocking the review for that. Its perfect for a travel bass, and great for unplugged practice on the patio or around the fire. The projection is great due to the brass strings- the only downside to these strings is they go out of tune very easily, but the onboard tuner helps with that. It's also a beautiful little bass, very high quality.
Overall extremely happy with this purchase. Makes it very easy to practice.
Great for quiet practice and noodling
This is a great bass to have around for quiet practice or just noodling while watch TV. I imagine it would also be great for travelling too. Unplugged, it's loud enough for practice or jamming with another acoustic instrument (maybe not drums). Plugged in, it produces a really nice warm tone. I don't mess with the onboard eq much, but it seems to work fine. The built in tuner is a nice touch, but I feel like it's not as accurate as a standalone tuner. Overall I'm really pleased. The out of the box setup (I bought locally, not from Sweetwater) was decent enough. Just needed some minor truss rod adjustment for some 1st fret buzz on d and g.
Cordoba Acoustic Mini Bass
Exceeded my expectations for an inexpensive mini acoustic bass. Plays well, electronics sound very good. It does take a while to get used to the short scale (tendency to over-reach or under-reach notes).
I used it this week in a guitar/fiddle/bass trio format and it worked flawlessly.
So incredibly light-weight that you barely can tell it's there (which is great for those of use feeling our age).
If you're in the market for this type of instrument, try the Cordoba before spending a great deal more on others.
Amazing!
I have many bass options and this is my go to. Great travel bass as well. I was shocked at the playability of this!
Fun in a small package
Too early to really tell, and I have only played plugged-in a couple of times, but is sounds good acoustic and amplified and is fun to play. Learning bass will inform my other guitar playing, too. The finish seems good and the action seems fine.
Great Small Bass
The size of this bass makes it great for a guitar player coming over to bass. It feels pretty close to a guitar and sounds great too. It also makes a great couch bass for when you want to practice without getting your full bass rig out.
Very good but…
All the marvelous things other say is true. It's remarkable what you get. My multi year experience has been great, but:
-poor finishing of the fret ends. A bit scratchy. My luthier sorted that out for a modest sum.
-the tuner is slow to track a note so I turn the peg and wait for the new reading to show. Usable but if a Snark is handy I'll use it instead.
That's it! Enjoy! You're surely going to enjoy!
No better parlor bass!
I love this thing! Its size, sound, feel is just right. Would play this on stage.
Big sound
This bass is outstanding. I wanted a bass that I could practice with at the house without an amp. I took it out a few times and it is LOUD and full. It's fun to play as well.
Sweet little Bass
Very happy with my purchase. Great quality for the price and I couldn't be happier highly recommend if you are on the fence about getting one.
Cordoba mini bass ii
Actually this is a beautiful sounding and playing bass regardless of price.
Frankly on par with instruments costing a thousand or more.

Awesome bass
This is a great bass to play around the house. I wanted a bass I could grab and practice with and not need an amp. This works perfect for that. It also sounds HUGE when plugged in. Don't let the price fool you this is a great bass.
Great Bass
I am a band director and I picked up this bass so I could teach some students. Works great, I love the sound and I love how portable it is.
Great size, great looking, great sounding.
I highly recommend it.
Exactly what I needed
I'm not a bass player by any means, but I needed something to record ideas and guide tracks. In conjunction with the Zoom R8, this instrument fits the bill perfectly. Compact, lightweight and easy to play...and I really like the onboard tuner.
Great little bass
The bass itself is beautiful. It's compact and fun to play, absolutely perfect for on the go travel. I'm a pretty large framed guy, and it doesn't ever feel too small. The sounds is rich and full, and surprisingly powerful for something so compact. Highly recommend.
A Good Budget Bass
I was looking for a simple bass guitar for my studio. I play guitar, mandolin, and ukelele, and I find a standard bass neck challenging. I've tried the U-Bass, but found the poly strings too rubbery feeling. I saw this Cordoba Mini II bass here on Sweetwater's and decided to give it a try. First, I'm happy with the fit and finish. It's very playable, and the phosphor bronze wound strings feel and sound great. The unplugged tone is warm and full, and the electronics work well. For an instrument in this price range, I'm impressed.
