Schoeps Colette Series CMC641 Set Modular Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone with Supercardioid Capsule Reviews

Supercardioid Condenser Microphone

When combined with a Schoeps capsule, the CMC 6 provides a flat, natural response with excellent protection from RF interference. The CMC 6 adjusts itself automatically from 12 volts to 48 volts depending on what the microphone amplifier is connected to, which is particularly handy for mobile recording where you're recording on battery power. The CMC 6 is a no-nonsense microphone body that uses symmetrical, transformerless, direct-coupled circuitry for premium sound. What you have here is a CMC 6 microphone amplifier paired with an MK 41 supercardioid capsule.

Amazing Microphone

By Sweetwater Customer on October 5, 2022

This is an amazing microphone. I was able to use it on a couple of gigs and the playback for the interior dialogue sounded perfect. The talent's voices sounded natural and full. I did not hear any coloring of the voice while recording in a reverberant space. Overall I would highly recommend this microphone for interior dialogue.

Best mic for interior dialogue.

Schoeps cmc641 has long been the go to mic of many production sound mixers when it comes to interior dialogue. The silky smooth tone of the mic is a distinguishable tone that sets it apart from others. Pair it with a CMIT and you have the perfect match.

Incredible microphone more people should know about.

I initially bought this microphone for dialogue audio in my video production business. It is the cleanest and best sounding microphone I've ever used for that purpose. It does an amazing job reproducing the sound you hear. More importantly, it doesn't hear anything else around you. We've recorded in large gymnasiums that typically are reverb nightmares, and somehow this microphone cuts out nearly all of it without even post processing. It's been our favorite mic no doubt.

Once I started back up my music project, I decided to use it in my studio and see how it would do and it's been amazing there as well. Sounds outstanding on stringed instruments (specifically Acoustic Guitar, Violin, etc). I'm now going to purchase another one sooner than later because of just how great and versatile it is. I highly recommend this mic.

Great Mic

Reproduces without coloration. Awesome on acoustic guitar and vocals

CMC641

By Phil Hadaway from Savannah, GA USA on April 20, 2012 Music Background: Music Producer, Engineer. Film Mixer, ADR Engineer,

Sounds really good! Just finished ADR on History Channel's Hatfield's and McCoy's and it really worked well with the picture. Really amazed at how much better this mic sounds in a booth than a typical short or long shotgun. LOVE IT!

Schoeps CMC641 Set

By Doug from Denver on October 30, 2011 Music Background: Audio Engineer - Music and Sound for Film

I needed a supercardioid pick up pattern for indoor dialog - to avoid the issues of off-axis wall reflections and interference tube funk that shotgun mics encounter in small rooms. I expected this to be good. It was.

Sound is absolutely beautiful. Extremely natural.

Pattern is perfect. Picks up the target speaker perfectly, rejects what it's supposed to. The off-axis actors are attenuated as they should be, but without distortion and without adding any weird, "hey we're recording in a room with a microphone" artifacts.

Perspective is very natural.

Transition between on-axis and off-axis sound is extremely smooth,
making this mic very easy to use.

Size is tiny, allowing more headroom than a shotgun mic (talking literal, physical headroom, not audio signal headroom).

I still love my Rode NTG3 and will use it wherever appropriate, but for interior dialog, small rooms, I can't imagine using anything except the Schoeps ever again.
