Schoeps is a name synonymous with excellence. There are those in the high-end of recording who will use no other microphones. I have rented Schoeps for classical recordings which have been submitted for Grammies by high-end international labels. It was time for me to own my own pair, and it does not matter which model: they are all exquisite, totally transparent, uncolored, and incredibly versatile. If you want a mic that records a sound exactly as you hear it, Schoeps is among a very few which answer this need, DPA being another high-end brand of which this is true as well(I own 10 of those). The versatility of the Schoeps is aided by the accessories for which Schoeps has become famous: active tubes with swivels at the top to create stands that never detract from the looks of a concert. The stereo set of tubes places a pair of Schoeps side by side or over and under as a spot mic pair. The original "Three Tenors" concert video shows three sets of these, one for each of the tenors. And that was 20 years ago. I have added to the versatility of this pair by purchasing the cardioid capsules for the set as they were ordered with the omni capsules. These are microphones which, once in one's cabinet, become a staple. Schoeps are among the best in the world. Owning one (or two) makes a statement about an engineer's desire for excellence in his/her productions.
