I have been playing drums for over 40 years and have always had a mid level kit.

After years of talking about getting a top of the line / pro kit I finally bit the bullet and it was 100% worth it! The finish/shell construction is fantastic. Nice sharp bearing edges and the Black Oyster Pearl is more gorgeous in person than any photo.

I have a drum room filled with lightly used drum heads . At first I figured try out the stock heads which seem to be some kind of clear Emperor but not really. They were ok for my taste. I tried the Evans G2 first. Got the head on the floor tom, did it as finger tight as possible and hit it to see where I was at. BAM !! I was like " I could use this as is." Tried this kit with coated Ambassadors, G2, Pinstripes, Clear Emperors. Every head sounded great . It's just a matter of personal taste which head you choose but I tired all those heads at all tensions , high, low, medium . This drum set takes it all and smiles. Tuning range is incredible. Honestly it's like tuning a guitar. You don't have to guess if the lugs are at even tension. The bass drum is like THUNDER !

I can't say enough great things about this drum set. Plus being a HUGE Beatles fan I got a Ringo kit to boot !!!

These are the best drums Ludwig has ever made!! Seriously. They are NOTHING like the old "vintage" Ludwig's of the '60's and 70's. So much better in every way! The workmanship is flawless. Shells are beautiful, all-maple, made in USA. Bearing edges are perfect and cut at a clean 45 degree angle. The Vintage Black Oyster wrap is vibrant, and looks very much like the old pre- 1969 stuff of the Ringo days. Ludwig has made so many improvements since then, the quality of this kit is no comparison to the Ludwig's of a by-gone era. The best part: these drums not only look fantastic, they sound incredible! I also got the matching 5x14 snare with this kit (a la Ringo's Jazz Fest 8 lug), but this one is 10 lug for better tuning, and does NOT cost $5-10K that a vintage model in showroom condition would cost you. So much fun to play!! Heads were turning at the gig this past weekend, as these drums are an attention getter! I LOVE this kit! A true "Ringo" kit that is much better quality and less money than a 60's version. I mean no disrespect to the vintage drum collectors out there...it's totally cool to own a 60's vintage Ludwig Ringo kit. I just didn't want to spend the money it takes to get one in perfect condition, and wanted solid maple shells and better over-all quality! Any drummer that appreciates quality will love these drums. Thanks Ludwig and Ringo for making me want to play drums. Buy these from Sweetwater! They will give you the opportunity to own a great kit at a reasonable price. If you've ever wanted a vintage Ludwig Black Oyster "Ringo" kit, don't hesitate to buy these...you won't be disappointed!
