7-piece Maple Shell Pack with 8/10/12" Toms, 14/16" Floor Toms, 22" Bass Drum, and 14" Snare Drum - Dark Indigo Burst

TAMA's signature thin 100% maple shells endow the Superstar Classic with bold, rich tones to awaken your grooves and power your backbeats. Strongest name in drums for a reason

By Kaleb B. from BYRON, GA

Tama makes some of the best hardware, case closed. The star-mount system for the toms does a great job of preserving volume and resonance, and every other piece of hardware slides together and holds great as can be. The shell quality itself is nice too, though the thinner shells definitely let the drums ring out more. The finish is beautiful as can be too

Amazing Drums

By Krimson from Hattiesburg, Ms
Music Background: Among Vermin - current band of two years. I have played for 44 years.

I have been playing this same set, minus the 8 inch rack tom and 14 floor tom. Mainly for recording purposes.

Anyway, I am using Evans G2 heads and these drums sound way more expensive than they really are. I do use a moon gel on the rack Tom's to deaden the tone a little faster.

I have been contemplating getting a custom set, but honestly, these drums have an amazing sound, I just don't want to use them live because of the amazing look of the shells. These shells are like what you would see on a very high end set.

Great drums!

By Jon from NC

Ive owned this set for several years (after Ludwig, PDP) and they are very nice all around. A 7 pc kit with lacquered and wrapped finishes, great sounding heads, good hardware, etc, all at that price point is amazing.

Best Set Ever!

By Mike F.
Music Background: 2 Years Drummer, In Band Currently

Okay.
So I ordered this set and I had to wait a few months because of backorder issues, which by no means is the fault of the manufacturer.
It came in two boxes upon arrival, and everything was packaged together nicely.
Some of the drums were assembled, and for the other ones, all you needed to do was tune them up and put the heads on.
Outside of the box, the toms sound amazing, even with the stock heads. The floor toms sounded a bit funky, although that is only because I struggle with tuning them lol.
The snare drum with the stock head sounds great at high tunings, and needs either a moon gel or a muffling ring as it is pretty ringy. After that, it sounds amazing.
The bass drum also sounds very good wide open, although I have a pillow inside of it now with an attack patch I put on myself.
I have had this kit for about 2 months now, and the heads still sound great. There are no dents in them, although stick marks appear very easily, which is the case with almost all drum heads.
In terms of the hardware, the star mounting system, which comes with the kit it very good. I like the fact that you can freely rotate the drums, and it makes it easy to put them wherever you want. If you play in a different setup than other people, this mounting system can allow stranger configurations.
Like all other Tama hardware, the mounting system is rock solid and doesnt go anywhere.
You need a cymbal stand to mount the 8 inch tom off of, and the 10 and 12 inch toms mount onto the bass drum.
I like the fact that Tama offers smaller configurations of this kit, but I wish they had the option to add drums. I am a fan of Lars and I was hoping to recreate something along the lines of his Tama Artstar kit.
Again, this is just an idea and it would be cool if they had something that allowed you to add extra drums if you wanted.
As for the visuals of this kit, you really can't get anything better. The finish on this kit is gorgeous, and depending on the lighting the kit is in, it will change. I really like how you can see the wood grain underneath the finish; it adds a nice touch.
In the picture I attached, the extra 16" floor tom is from my old kit.
The cymbals I have set up are 14" Paiste PST 7 Hi Hats, which are my favorite hi hats ever. The sound so good, and sound better than the 2002 hats. They are very affordable too!
I have a 16" PST 7 Crash and a 18" PST 7 Light Crash. Both of these sound good, although better alloy cymbals sound better as crashs. I also have a 12" China that I made myself. It sounds super good lol.
And I have an 18" K Custom Ride up. This thing is awesome and is worth every penny!
Overall, I really love this drum set. Apart from my own tuning weaknesses, I think this kit is worth it for every penny. If you are thinking about buying it, do not hesitate. And Sweetwater always has your back.
Huge Thanks to Jeff for helping me with all of my drum needs!

Great Tone, punch & looks!!!

By Derik M. from North State California
Music Background: 45 years drumming, Producer, Engineer.

Three companies offer a stock 7 piece kit, this kit sounds better then the others coming right out of the box.

I just finished unpacking and tuning this kit. I am completely surprised at the stock powerstroke heads, I tuned each drum both top and bottom heads to the lowest (playable) resonant tone and when finished with the 8" the natural tone of each drum matched perfectly, all the way down to the first drum I tuned the 16" floor Tom, without having to adjust to each other, they are naturally matched very well, super pro! The snare tuned right up without any radical overtones or buzz, with stock heads. It's easily ready for studio or show. This kit can hold its own in almost any situation, live or studio, big gigs and small.

WOW!!!

By Dan W. from Albuquerque
Music Background: Semi Professional Musician

This kit is phenomenal! Even with the stock Tama heads it sounds incredible! I've had a mediocre Tama kit for years and finally wanted to upgrade to my version of a pro Stewart Copeland type kit. The maple shells have a distinct tone about them that sounds Pro! I also purchased the Stewart Copeland signature snare to go with this kit (of course) and have since added 4 Tama octobans, the same size as Stewart's. I'm in heaven!

Stewarts original kit was the Imperial Star, but that's now made of poplar wood and he now actually plays the Tama Starclassic, but for some reason it's double the cost, I believe because of the Walnut/birch wood mix. But it doesn't matter, this is the kit that sounds closer to all the albums I grew up with, very bright and punchy. Don't Think Twice if you're on the fence!!!

Great Buying Experience, Great Product

By Reagan L. from EAST PETERSBURG, PA

I bought this kit because I wanted an upgrade on my no-name kit I got 10 years ago or so. I did a lot of shopping around on Guitar Center and Sweetwater for a nice big Tama kit, and this one was the winner. I bought the demo version for a discount because I trusted Sweetwater. Good thing I did, because it looks awesome, and it sounds great. I haven't been able to spend too much time on getting it to sound perfect just yet, but with some Evans heads, I have no doubt it'll sound even better.

I bought this kit on a Friday, and the site said to order in the next hour to have it delivered by Tuesday. The next day (Saturday), I learn that delivery is scheduled for Sunday. Two days ahead of schedule! I live in PA, so that probably played a factor, and maybe Sweetwater overestimates ETA to keep customers happy, but I was still very happy. I also received a call from a Sales Engineer (Ivan) on Saturday to let me know it had shipped and to see if I had any questions.

This was my first purchase from Sweetwater, and it was a very good experience altogether. I will definitely buy from Sweetwater again, and I'll definitely keep buying Tama products.

Outstanding

By Brian
Music Background: Touring/Studio

These sound fantastic. Tuned them up quickly, and was amazed at the tone of these drums, even with the stock heads. Changed the stock heads with Evans EC2's, and was blown away by how great they sound, even wide open with no muffling. The quality of the manufacturing is top notch. I would give six stars if I could.

Awesome drums

By Lee S.
Music Background: Drummer, recording engineer

I purchased this as my first new kit in about 16 years. They were packaged well and arrived in excellent condition. Set up was a breeze and the mounting system for the rack toms is brilliant. The finish on the drums is great and seems to boast a different hue in every light. And the maple shells weigh a good bit less than I was expecting. This is my first Tama purchase, but I doubt it will be my last

Surprisingly inpressed!!!

These drums were great rite out of the box. Tunning was easy for me, and I am still learning. I recommend the Tama Superstar classic 100%. Also, the price can't be beaten.

Great Sound For Value

By Thomas

This is one of the beat sounding kits I've ever heard for this price range. The toms are very musical, the kick drum punches, and the snare pops. The snare is a bit ringy, but some moongel or drum tacs fix that immediately. The dark indigo burst is a killer finish and looks way better in person than in the pictures. Fantastic drum kit for the value!

Amazing Sound!!

By Casey G. from New Mexico
Music Background: Worship drummer, independent band drummer

These drums sound amazing!! I love the tone's of the toms, truly a great range of sounds depending on your personal tuning. I'm used to playing on 4 piece kits, but having the additional toms is very inspirational and has allowed me to explore variations with grooves and fills. Great packaging thanks to Sweetwater. The finish on these drums looks outstanding, especially in stage lighting, but even in regular lighting they stand out!! Stock heads sound pretty good, you can definitely jam right out of the box. I personally love the sound and attack of the kick drum with the Evan's GMAD head. I also changed the snare head but still using stock tome heads for now. You definitely get an "expensive drum kit sound" for a great price!!

Fantastic Sound!

By Rene R. from Santa Ana, CA
Music Background: We are a band, our band name is NEBRISE

This Tama Superstar Classic 7-piece Shell Pack - Dark Indigo Burst Drum kit it's just awesome! Starting with the sound, the factory heads sound great wont change them until its time to. Really easy to tune everything from low to high. The drum set came really carefully packaged thanks to Sweetwater for that. Now jumping into the Dark Indigo Burst color, these pictures here on the site don't do justice to the real beauty of this drum set, it is way better in person, it shines more in person. Overall great sound, nice color, and good deal with a great sounding drum kit like this one. I totally recommend it. Happy holidays everyone!
