Ovation Celebrity Elite CE48P-KOAB Super Shallow Acoustic-electric Guitar - Koa Burst Reviews
If you've always wanted to experience the unique design, tone, and playability Ovation offers, the Celebrity Elite CE48P-KOAB acoustic-electric guitar is a wonderful option. The Celebrity Elite combines a super shallow Lyrachord body design with a stunning koa top for comfortable play and stellar tone. Koa has won over legions of players as a tonewood that delivers an incredibly dynamic sonic signature steeped in rich low end and a balanced midrange. A mahogany neck with an ovangkol fingerboard provides impeccable response and playability, and the deep cutaway gives you access to those higher notes up the neck. When you plug in, an Ovation Slimline pickup and OP-4CT preamp system with 3-band EQ kicks out gorgeous amplified tone.

Exactly what I wanted
Beautiful, utterly flawless KOA top on a super shallow fiberglass body with gorgeous cutouts and both neck and action to match. What is not to like?? I have a jumbo boomer (Epiphone J200 SCE) It is just about as loud and resonant as a guitar can be. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted a soft, quiet guitar to play in my office or my room. I wanted something with lots of character that is EZ to play in both low and high registers. I also had my eyes fixed on the Ovations cuz I always wanted one.
This purchase did not let me down. The guitar is all of that and more. Unplugged it is soft but not too soft. It has lots of twangy mids and treble which I like a lot. Plugged in It can play any style your amp can output. I did everything from a touch of chorus on an Egnater tube amp to full blown insane overdrive on my Orange and Marshal amps. Sometimes it fed back but not anything like my Epi Jumbo or my Yamaha acoustic... those are feedback devils!
Faults? It would have been nice if they gave you an instruction sheet for the preamp. But there is so little to learn, you can pick it all up by trial and error. The back takes a bit of getting used to but that was expected. A Taylor strap solved that problem quickly.
All in all this is a keeper. I highly recommend it unless you need a jumbo to boom out notes on stage. There are better choices for that.
Outstanding
I was amazed when I received my Ovation.
I was in awe. The Koa gorgeous.
I was slightly afraid of getting the super shallow but this guitar sounds beautiful.
Easy to play and very comfortable.
Sweetwater goes out of their way to make a guitar look and ready to play right out of the box. The 55 point inspection is thumbs up.
I want to thank the staff at Sweetwater for their knowledge and expertise in getting this guitar to me in such a short period of time.
Any questions I asked were answered almost immediately. I will defiynitely purchase my next guitar from Sweetwater.
Thanks again one and all for going out of your way to make me a satisfied customer.
Couldn't be happier
As a beginner guitarist this Ovation ends up checking so many boxes I can sell a few of my others. The super shallow bowl fits my body like a glove. The shape of the bowl has no sharp edges against my ribs and has just enough natural upward tilt that I can easily view the fretboard as I learn without having to consciously tilt the guitar body toward me. It has the feel of an electric but with the booming projection of an acoustic. The tone is sweet. Booming bass, ringing trebles, zero twanging banjo sound that some cheaper guitars have in the treble strings. I love the tone. After removing one of the shims under the saddle and slightly adjusting the neck relief, the action feels perfect. The neck relief currently sits at .008 at the 7th fret and the action sits at .004 at the sixth string, .003 at the first string at the 12th fret. Zero buzz. Ovation supplied the hex tool for the truss rod. As a beginner, I still play rather soft but my buddy has been playing for years and he was really wailing on it with zero fret buzz. He also loved it. The electronics are great and perfectly located. The Koa is gorgeous. The engineering Koman put into the Ovation guitar is mind boggling. Zero regrets. Plenty to love. I only wish I had tried one earlier.
Great Sounding Guitar, but….
This guitar sounds great but is hard to keep in tune. Strings are sticking. Changing nut to Tusc permanently lubricated. Hope that works. Also hurts my fingers, I think the 12-53 gauge strings are a bit large. Last but not least, the intonation on the e an b strings is off a bit and no way to adjust.
Slim design and same great sound
Ovation has had a unique sound since I can remember. As a child my father would play his bulky rounded back neat guitar as I called it. We were not allowed to touch it because it was so expensive. Fast forward to my young adult life when I purchased my first one to do live shows. It has great sound but the bulky back was not comfortable to me. Fast forward again to my older more mature self. The slim line version of the great Ovation sound makes me giddy reflecting back on those awesome tones coming from the plugged in acoustic with no effects. It's comfortable too. In complete Ovation heaven!
