I'm sold on Ovation!

By Jerry Downing from Windsor Locks, CT on December 15, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist guitar player for over 60 years.

First of all, this thing is beautiful! The gloss black accented by the natural wood "rosettes" is a stunning combination. I had previously purchased a shallow-bodied Ovation Applause 6 string from Sweetwater and that really whetted my appetite for a "real" Ovation. I was certainly not disappointed. I have owned a couple of 12 strings in the past and they spent most of their time in the case. They were, for me anyway, just too hard to play. The Celebrity Elite played great right out of the box but I couldn't help but try to improve it so I removed one of the shims from under the saddle. When I tightened the strings, the action was so low I figured it would buzz and rattle like crazy. Happily, I was wrong. Now it plays like a 6 string with that gorgeous 12 string shimmer I was expecting. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the guitar and with the service I received from Sweetwater and Aric Brenner, my sales engineer. Thanks to them and Ovation for a most satisfying experience.

Fantastic Guitar

By Jay from Oklahoma on January 19, 2023 Music Background: Crappy garage band player for 30 years

Big props to my Sales Engineer, Brandon Buckley, for picking out a real gem. My guitar arrived quickly, and it played fantastic out of the box. The neck relief was perfect and required no tweaking. The action was good, but I went ahead and removed one of the pre-installed shims under the saddle when I put a fresh set of strings on. This brought the action down to a ridiculously low height with absolutely no fret buzzing anywhere on the neck. Fit and finish are perfect. Perfect fretwork up and down the entire neck. The guitar projects very well and sounds surprisingly great unplugged. The electronics and onboard tuner are nice, but I've been playing it mostly unplugged with a mic. The tone is very bright and shimmering with a nice set of phosphor bronze strings. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this guitar. Everyone knows that 12-string guitars can be much more difficult to play than their 6-string counterparts, but with the silky smooth playability and low action this guitar is capable of, it makes that transition a lot easier.

NEEDED WORK

By SFC Johnny US Army Retired from Colorado on July 1, 2022 Music Background: Played guitar since 1962

When I received this guitar, made in China, the strings were dead and the bridge was high affecting playability. Took it to a local repair shop where they installed D'Addario strings and made other instrument adjustments. The guitar is now acceptable and I will not return it to Sweetwater. Craig Mills from Sweetwater advised they would credit me with the repair cost and I must commend them for accepting responsibility and I would purchase again from Sweetwater because of the integrity of Craig Mills on behalf of the company. Clearly there was minimal quality control at Sweetwater but thankfully I was able to locally correct the problems and now have a very beautiful 12 string even though it was made in China. I will purchase again from the company.
