PRS SE CE24 Electric Guitar - Blood Orange Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, PRS Tremolo, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Blood Orange

PRS’s SE CE24 merges the Custom 24 series’ elegant tonewoods and iconic aesthetics with a snappy bolt-on-neck design. This guitar’s maple-veneer-topped mahogany body epitomizes the company’s tonal dedication to singing sustain, exceptional clarity, and vintage-style warmth, harkening back to the golden age of solidbody guitar building. However, instead of the standard mahogany set-neck found on the majority of PRS instruments, this guitar sports a sturdy maple Wide Thin neck with a rosewood fingerboard. This combination provides a crisp, sharp attack and immaculately defined trebles, complementing the natural warmth and richness of the 85/15 “S” humbuckers. The SE CE24 finishes it all off with rock-solid PRS-designed tuners and a PRTS Patented Tremolo for expressive bends and flutters. Whether it's your first PRS or your fifth, the PRS SE CE24 is destined to become your next #1 axe!

I received my PRS guitar faster than expected. I absolutely love this guitar! No problems with the shipment and my rep Matthew made sure I was informed and fully satisfied.

PRS SE CE24 Blood Orange

By Ed C from Phoenix, AZ on January 3, 2024

This is the 1st guitar I have purchased new in quite some time. After watching multiple reviews through YouTube from Sweetwater, PRS, Phillip McKnight, and others I was very interested since I generally seem to prefer bolt on neck guitars. I want to also give a quick shout out to Matthew Klopfenstein, he has been great over the years at answering any questions I may have and giving his opinions based on his experiences.

So when PRS on the SE line through 12/31/23, it kind of made it a no brainer for me to go ahead and pick one up. Now I live in the Phoenix metro area and it was not easy to find many PRS guitars, the closest GC only had 2 1 new and 1 used and both were the SE Custom 24's. So going into this purchase I had no idea what to expect. This being my 1st PRS it was kind of a Leap of faith in hoping all the reviews/demos were accurate.

Well when the Guitar finally arrived I let it sit for the acclimation period as per the stickers on the box you can't miss. I will add here that the Packaging done by Sweetwater is so next level compared to what I usually get.

Now onto the guitar...It was beyond my expectations. The fit and finish is flawless, the neck frets and intonation were spot on, The only thing I will be doing is dropping the action a tad. It came to me at about 2.0 at the 12th Fret and Ill be adjusting it down to 1.5. Otherwise there is nothing to do but play it. I may add locking tuners down the road as I do like them better. The included gig bag is great and better than others I have received from other purchases. It is well made, seems to be sturdy and a decent amount of padding.

With this being my gateway into PRS Guitars, I am impressed and I will be purchasing others, I do believe my next one will be A SE DGT Goldtop.

outstanding

ok...played it fir a few days and decided to review it. Fit and Finish very high quality. On par with something in the 4 digit price range. Fret ends nicely polished as well as the frets, no fret sprout at all, surprising to see that in this price range. Pick ups on par with my Gibsons...I can leave everything on the amp at 12 o'clock. no need to tweak anything, very nice tone with above average sustain. The neck feels comfortable, not too thin. The fret board is wide which makes chords easily formed without muting strings. Weight about average. The tremlo system something I would expect on a much higher price guitar. It stays in tune better then Mt strsts, way better. The tuners are a nice even adjustment, smooth without that gap thing like some have when tuning up and down, very good ratio as with high end tuners. No short cuts taken on this guitar what so ever, every aspect of high quality adorns this guitar. They hit it out of the ball park.

Not amazing, but really nice for the price.

I bought this to strip down the amount of gear I have to carry when having rehearsals at my drummer's house. Normally I play guitars with Floyds, which means I have one guitar per tuning to perform with, but it's a chore having to haul multiple instruments back and forth for rehearsals. When the SE CE24 was announced, it immediately looked like a winner. I could set up the trem to dive only and be able to retune as necessary and the stock pickup/control configuration should give me all the tonal flexibility I need.

I daresay the guitar succeeds where I need it to. I installed a trem-stop and added a little spring tension to get the trem where I wanted it and the rest of the setup was fast and easy. There were a couple of minor issues that were simple to overcome. One of the nut slots wasn't cut particularly well and just needed a couple of passes with a slotting file. Also I ended up with some fret sprout as it's been super dry here this winter.

My couple of other minor complaints aren't really issues, per se, but rather are just things I find annoying. The first is that the stock tuners are only a 15:1 ratio. More and more instruments can be found with at least 18:1 these days, so it strikes me as an area where PRS could stand to improve. Also the fretboard edges aren't rolled, which affects the feel of the instrument. It's not a big deal to roll the edges a bit, but it's work that I'd prefer to not have to do. I found some inexpensive 21:1 locking tuners that are a drop-in replacement for the originals and I spent a Saturday morning rolling the fretboard edges and dressing the fret ends. The result is a wonderful feeling guitar.

Beyond those relatively minor complaints and I'm pretty impressed. I like the tones I'm getting from the stock pickups, the top is quite nice, the weight is comfortable, the satin neck is smooth and easy to play, and it just feels good in the hands. Overall it's really nice given the price. I'd say it's a keeper, but it's probably not going to blow your mind.
