Great starter guitar with upgrade-ability

By Patrick from Carlsbad CA on July 21, 2023 Music Background: Beginner

I bought this guitar in early 2020 direct from Fender (before I was aware of how awesome Sweetwater is).

The guitar has decent-to-good tone "out of the box" from Fender, and is really fun to play. This was my first ever guitar, (I had purchased a Yamaha from Guitar Center which I returned within a week... it was big, not fun or easy to play and had a buzzy tone which annoyed me...) so I eventually landed on this Fender Classic Design series (CC-60S).

I have since upgraded some items which added to the tonal quality - TUSQ nut, TUSQ saddle, made a custom pick-guard, swapped the strings to Elixir's, replaced the bridge pins with Graph Tech bridge pins, and finally added a Fishman pickup to amplify the nice acoustic tone.

This guitar keeps in-tune really nicely, every week I check to see if it's in tune and it is usually spot on +/- maybe one "cent".

I'd recommend to anyone wanting to learn, or start playing again with a modest budget - you'll have a good tone with many options to upgrade later if desired. There's lots of options for entry level, and this - in my opinion - is a good one. It's not the best sounding, but great for practicing and learning on.
