Not at all configurable! Cool hardware but seems half baked.

By Matt J. from Michigan

I was hoping this thing would be a great combo of a MIDI/MCU fader controller and a Streamdeck. It doesn't seem to be using industry standard communication protocols, and isn't configurable in the slightest. Could make a few controls show up in Logic by manually mapping, but couldn't get the fader or a few other buttons working no matter what I did. No documentation at all about the protocol, so can't reverse engineer how to get it working either.

Unit seems well built, but unfortunately won't work for my uses and Yamaha hasn't released a even a single maintenance update in 3 months. Going to return and we'll see if Yamaha fixes these in the future to be more helpful.

Impulse Buy immediately after watching Dom's video on this

By John O. from Menifee, CA
Music Background: Abundant live performances experience, some studio

I must say, it is entirely my fault for this purchase. The positives being the integration of Stream Deck, timeline scroll and the powered fader. Power over USB (from my desktop PC) indicator showed insufficient power (but it still worked fine) nevertheless, it bothered me, so, to make the warning go away, I also powered it with an external power supply, which satisfied power needs (needing both USB C ports for power, one exclusive to power and the other power and data).

Firmware update? No. You have Stream Deck buttons but the configurable ones are way at the end of the menu pages. Otherwise, you have the first pages loaded with all the EQ tweaks you could want.

It seems as if it may be one of those abandoned products that may wind up on AudioPilz Bad Gear someday.

I hope I am proven embarrassingly wrong about the above.

Solid build, indeed.

we've been waiting nearly two decades...for this?

By Sweetwater Customer from Cloud
Music Background: many years - music

The Streamdeck portion that connects to knobs is locked down. The fader is ridiculously loud. Hopefully these issues are addressable with firmware and software updates but wow. A distractingly loud fader with no channel display (yet?) for the channel you're on and the issues I led with for $ Yamaha - come on.

Promising Start!

By Sweetwater Customer

I was really excited about this device until I plugged it in and started using it. First the things I absolutely loved. This box is solid. It is a completely metal chassis, and it has some serious weight to it. It isn't going to slide around easily. The fader, knobs and buttons feel very nice. The fader itself is smooth and quiet. The channel specific buttons are perfect for Cubase and match flawlessly. As a single channel controller for Cubase, it gets 5 stars.

The stream deck integration and top 4 knobs are where it loses interest and becomes disappointing. The Control Center software is very locked down. It comes with several prepopulated profiles for the "stream deck" buttons. These are not configurable and the pages are not moveable. You are also stuck with HUI profiles that are unneeded if you are not using Pro tools. The only customization is on the Stream Deck specific profile. This requires a wireless connection from Control Center to your Stream Deck app. It requires you to verify the connection every time you start these apps. Since this is the first release of the software, I am hoping that they unlock the software with future updates. For now, though, the top section is very clunky and not super useful.
