It’s a keeper

By Stan from Nor cal on February 12, 2024 Music Background: 50+ years of playing.

I just got this a few weeks ago and so far I love it. Sitting around the house to be able to just grab and go is a huge plus for me.
Plus the bronze strings are easier on my fingers. And it's lighter than my Fender Jazz. So win win.

Better than expected

By Jeff Meinhardt from Plymouth Wi. on April 2, 2023 Music Background: Collect percussion instruments. These r the next step.

Great bass for just about anything. New at this and I feel this is the perfect guitar for my level now and the time to come. Very happy! Thnx Sweetwater.

This is a beauty!

By Christian Henley from Hartsburg, MO on February 27, 2023

I love this acoustic bass. i can go on and on about what I like but I'll simplify it and just say this guitar is easy to play, the neck is smooth. It has plenty of sound when playing acoustic. When I amp it up, this baby sings, and resonates and has a lot of sustain. Just an all-around great instrument. And the onboard electronics and tuner are top notch. Thanks Jacob Stutzman and the great team at Sweetwater!

Fender acoustic bass

By Sweetwater Customer from NYC on February 22, 2023 Music Background: guitar player

I got a demo model of this Fender acoustic bass. As a big fan of Fender guitars, I expected great quality and got it. I play acoustic and experimented with an electric bass, but am most at home with acoustics. This guitar is the perfect size, has a nice tone and is really easy to play. I love it! Unlike its electric counterpart, this is lightweight. (Did I mention it has a super nice tone.) I like playing & hearing music from a bass point of view. (nice change after 40ish years).

Worth Every Penny

By Gary Gidak from Glendale, AZ on December 8, 2022 Music Background: Studio Owner, Recording Engineer, Producer, Musician

I'm a bit perplexed by the price of this guitar. It sounds and plays WAY better than the price tag. The tone is perfect - nice mellow lows, beautifully balanced mids, and crisp highs. The intonation is spot-on, and the action is just right for an acoustic bass. It's almost as easy on my fingers as me electric bass, and the fit and finish are amazing. I've not plugged it into an amp, so I can't comment on the direct/amplified tone, but I do like the onboard tuner. I honestly have nothing bad to report. I'm really happy with this bass, and I'm confident you will be too.

Beautiful tone. Acoustic basses are underrated

By Sweetwater Customer from CA on September 20, 2022

I've watched dozens of Youtube videos about acoustic bass guitars, and they often tell you the same things. "You'll never need an acoustic bass" and "only when playing around a campfire."
I was in a small music store in a tiny town with a public square, where music was part of the local tradition.
I picked up this instrument and played around with it. It felt...good. Good enough that I ended up buying one, despite all of the sentiment that is put out on the internet.
I end up practicing at home on this instrument, pretty much more than my electric instrument with all my pedals.
If I plug it into an amp, it sounds warm. Or I can take it anywhere.
If you need more than this, sure, you can either go with spending $20,000 or more on an upright, or $5,000 for an electric upright, or go with a decent quality electric instrument. For the price you are paying for this, this is likely what you will need, and plays much, much better than you'd expect.
I'd also recommend it for any time you want an 'acoustic' sound, like playing a Violent Femmes song or with a minimalist, acoustic band.

Fender CB-60SCE Concert Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar - Natural

By Richie K. from Long Island , New York on June 25, 2022 Music Background: Several small bands in a long 40Year History

I still can't decide if I like playing this light weight Easy to hold guitar Acoustically or Through My small Hartke HD 150 Amplifier!! Its Deep Rich Bass And Treble controls make this sound so smooth in hard rock , heavy metal or country rock music !! It was Super Double packed for shipping and came with its own 9 Volt Battery that needs to be placed inside the bottom of the guitar to use the tuning feature and I guess the combo Electric amp features !! Both works great , but I still trust my Snark Tuner more accurately then the guitars tuner !! Thanks to a Friend's recommendation for this Beautiful guitar , and Thank You Sweetwater sound and Music !! P. S. First playing it my fingers were all brown from the dye on the fret board , but , eventually goes away !! Nice Axe !!

Very nice bass, especially for the price!

By Kevin B from Kentwood, MI on December 1, 2021

I am mainly a guitarist but thought it would be fun to buy a relatively cheap acoustic bass to play around with figuring I'd buy a better one someday if I played it enough. Man, was I surprised! This bass is so much nicer than I expected. I'm sure I will never need to upgrade beyond this sweet bass.

The fit and finish is flawless. The spruce top is very rich and the sound is very deep and full. The action was perfect straight out of the box and the intonation is spot on. The electronics work flawlessly and sound great. I could not be happier with this purchase.

I am having a great time playing this bass and plan on keeping it for many years. If you are thinking about it, just buy it! You will not be disappointed!

Nice instrument

By Hugh from Central Texas on November 20, 2021 Music Background: Drums, clawhammer banjo and novice bass

My neighbors like this acoustic bass for my early morning and late evening practicing. So do I. What do I know about acoustic bases as a newcomer to the instrument other than it seems to be a very nice bass and a good value: oh yeah, and it's lots of fun!

Nice case for this beauty!

By Rik Grauwmans on November 6, 2021 Music Background: Blues, Rythm&Blues, now playing bass in the band of Roland van Beeck (Senior Voice Belgium winner 2020).

I read the reviews of some people who'd also a Fender CB-60 but did'nt find the right case for it.
Well, I also own a Hagstrom Viking bass and for that one I have the Hagstrom "Hagbag". Well, the Fender fits perfectly in it!

gigbag for this one

By Rik Grauwmans on October 25, 2021 Music Background: The Crew, Cryptic Skull, Roland and band

I also have a Hagstrom Viking bass. The "Hag Bag" that was made for it is perfect for the Fender CB-60CSE! And it's the most beautifull gig bag ever made!

Fender spruce top acoustic bass guitar

By Tom Walken from Raleigh NC on September 24, 2021 Music Background: Gigging, retired player

To say that the build quality on this base is flawless is not an exaggeration. Every detail has been managed with care. The string height was also set up well, the octaves pitch perfect, snd the tuning machines and knobs were very high quality. Of all the basses I own, I like looking at and playing this one the best. Great for practicing without an amp, but you will need an amp to add any kind of punch to even an acoustic guitar group. I do t see how they can make a work of art like this for this price!

Great Bass

By G on August 23, 2021 Music Background: Picking it up again

Had this for just over a year. Holds up, sounds and plays great—stays in tune. This is one i just always pick up. Zack Davidson was great helping me with this—as always.

An amazing acoustic-electric bass, especially for the price

By Jeffrey Varszegi from STONEHAM, MA on March 30, 2021

The fit and finish on this bass is very good for the price point. Playability is great, and I tend to prefer the slightly shorter neck to a full-sized bass neck. The cutaway helps in accessing higher frets, and the body size is not so large as to be uncomfortable. This bass is easy to play fast. As for the sound, it simply blows me away through an amp--it's probably the best-sounding bass I've ever played--and unplugged it's no slouch either.

It's too bad there's no fitted hard-shell case for this bass. After noticing the similarly-sized Ibanez basses with 32" necks, I took a chance on a used Ibanez AEB-50C hard-shell acoustic bass case, and it fits nearly perfectly with slight wiggle room.

Sheer Perfection!

By Christopher Quinn from Milford, CT on January 27, 2021 Music Background: Bassist for 13 years.

My amazing Sweetwater sales engineer, Patrick L., helped me pick out this bass and helped me get a setup as well, which was done by incredible Sweetwater luthier, Brandon H.

This bass is truly 'budget' Fender at their best and it totally worth the $... It plays even better than it looks and I honestly can't remember the last time I've played an under $500 instrument that's felt & sounded this good!

My only suggestions are be sure to get a gig bag, stand, strap and setup!

Seriously though, I highly recommend this bass. As soon as I took it out of the box, (and it was practically in tune, by the way), I couldn't put it down!

In a word...AWESOME

By Sevvy Sev from Cleveland, Ohio on November 25, 2020 Music Background: Professional Bass Player 50+ years

I've owned several acoustic bass guitars over the past twenty years, and I must admit the CB60SCE has to be the easiest playing, sweetest sounding acoustic bass I have ever played or owned.

The single cutaway body is extremely comfortable. The 32" scale design is easy and fun to play, the fretwork is impeccable and the unplugged sound is surprisingly full bodied and louder than any of my other basses.

The simple Fishman preamp is clean and smooth sounding without a lot of useless scratchy slider controls and buttons like my other basses. Fender has a winner with this one, destined to be a classic.

Funny thing, I'm not really a fan of Fender electric basses, but this acoustic is truly THE BOMB! The CB60SCE instantly became my number one acoustic bass right out of the box.Way better than my other acoustic basses at about HALF THE PRICE!

Buy this bass if you can get one. Demand is high and I had to wait a few months, but well worth the wait.
You will be extremely pleased with your purchase, and the folks at Sweetwater are top notch too with their personal inspection of each instrument and unsurpassed expertise.

Nice acoustic bass

I bought this acoustic bass so I could practice while my wife is asleep. I love the rich tone and it sounds great through my Fender Rumble 40 amp.

Great Acoustic-Electric Bass for a Small Price!

By Sam from New Hampshire on May 3, 2019 Music Background: Weekend Warrior

Beautiful Bass for not much money.
Plays easy.
Sounds Great!

The only thing I had to do was change to flat-wound strings.

Unexpectedly great

By Wesley Cook from Van Nuys, CA on March 13, 2019 Music Background: Active

This bass is exceptional. Great tone and playability. I have played bass for 30 years. I use this for around the house and for my vocal lessons but there is no reason I wouldn't take this on the stage. It sounds great plugged into my little Hartke A-35 practice amp. Fender does it again! If you are looking for an ABG this is the best buy in my humble opinion.

Comfortable AND Affordable

By Bo McCarty. from Central Texas Hill Country on May 24, 2018 Music Background: Aging lifelong musician refusing to give up!

I gave this Fender CB-60SCE A/E Bass Guitar the full 5 star rating because I really was blown away by the overall quality, build, sound and electronics of this instrument. For a "Budget" A/E bass it surpassed my expectations. The Natural finish is just plain old school awesome. Nice wood pattern on the top and the sides and back are gorgeous. The top strap button is located on the upper part of the body enabling great balance when playing and convenience of not caring what size the end of your strap may be. I am not a fan of those located on the bottom of the neck joint area. The 5 pound weight is very comfortable on my worn out back. The 32" scale is comfortable and fits right in between the traditional 34" scale and the short scale 30". So transitioning either up or down is no stretch.

The sound unplugged really surprised me. The acoustic sound was great, with plenty of volume when asked for, when played with fingers, felt pick, rubber pick, and traditional guitar pick. It should hold its own in an acoustic jam, especially if played with a traditional pick. For stock strings I was amazed at the sound quality up and down the neck.

Plugged in is where I was really surprised and amazed. Prior to this instrument I had tried basses by Ibanez, Dean and Taylor. They each had their strong points, but something just didn't fit with me on each. The Ibanez body (AEB) was just so big it was uncomfortable. The same with the Dean, coupled with poor electronics. The Baby Taylor was nice, but the acoustic sound was just a little weak for my tastes. But this Fender plugged in really sold me. The pickup accurately translates the acoustic sound through my Fender Rumble practice amp. The volume knob is good, but the bass and treble controls is what sets the Fender CB-60SCE apart for all the others I tried. Both are very responsive and offer a great blend of sound. Much more than I was expecting at this price point.

One warning: It is impossible to find a good fitting gig bag for this bass due to the (very comfortable) concert body shape. Most of the many bags i could find were cut for the jumbo sized A/B basses. Only Fender makes one that fits ..... if you are willing to pay big bucks for a bag that only has 11mm f padding. However, after getting the internal size specs from Sweetwater for the Fender Kingman Bass Case I noticed it was very close to the external specs of my CB-60SCE, with the exception of the overall length. Hey, that case is made for the rather long Kingman with its massive head. When I got mine from Sweetwater the other day I was amazed at how well the CB-60SCE fit in the case. Yes, there is some wiggle room around the body, but not too much. That could easily be filled with a couple of hand towels. It also has nice, plush padding, sturdy latches, nice exterior finish, and a nice sized accessory box for a fitted case.

I heartily recommend both the Fender CB-60SCE A/E Bass and the Kingman Bass Case to protect it. Give Nick Tamez @ Sweetwater a call and get yours on the way!

Really nice!

By Brian Wazewski from Poughkeepsie, NY on July 21, 2022 Music Background: Gigging Veteran

I love the quality of this bass: the finish is excellent, the wood looks beautiful, and the neck feels great. I like the fact that the body is not too thick front to back, making it comfortable to hold while playing sitting down. It has enough volume to jam with my band acoustically without an amp, and it sounds pretty good through the amp as well. The action was playable out of the box, but still a little higher than Id like, so Ill take it to get set up as I have no idea how to do this to an acoustic bass. The tuner is fine, if a little touchy. Oh, the brass strings make my fret hand fingers black, so theres that.

Overall this is an excellent bass especially, considering the price. Absolutely no regrets!

FENDER CB-60SCE ACOUSTIC BASS GUITAR

By Marty Sipes from Oregon on June 17, 2022

I FIGURED I WOULD TRY A ACOUSTIC BASS, BUT I DID NOT WANT TO SPEND TOO MUCH. I CHANGED THE STRINGS TO HALF ROUND. IMO IT SOUNDS BETTER AND I LIKE THE FEEL OF THEM. LATER ON I WILL CHANGE THE STRING PINS. I ENJOY IT. GREAT VALUE. AS ALWAYS, I LOVE BUYING FROM SWEETWATER WHERE YOU CAN PLAY RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. EXCELLENT PACKING TOO.

Best value in its class

By Dennisio from Summerhill, PA on June 11, 2022 Music Background: Songwriter

I sent back an Ibanez and a Dean for poor quality. The Fender acoustic bass was very nice for its price point, and Sweetwater's inspection program may have made the difference. The guitar was received in perfect condition and did not need any setup. Action was perfect. Tuner is nice, and turns itself off when not in use. Shipping was fast.

I love this bass

By Jeff Hall from New York on March 7, 2019 Music Background: BA in Music, former music librarian at G. Schirmer

My primary instrument is classical guitar and I also sing with a classical concert chorale-not a typical customer for an acoustic bass, but I am loving this guitar! I bought this bass for the purpose of practicing my vocal parts since I am not a keyboard player. Using the Vox headphone amp I have been really enjoying myself practicing and loosening up a bit musically. The electronics are very good and the overall sound and playability of the guitar is surprizingly good for such an affordable guitar. The scale of the fretboard is very different from what I am used to, but, in addition to having a lot of fun with this guitar, I have had the added bonus of finding that when I switch back to my classical guitar my hands move so much more lightly and gracefully. It is the guitarists version of a runner wearing ankle weights prior to a race. Lastly, this instrument is beautifully built and finished and was delivered in an extremely secure package. I am very satisfied with this purchase and product!

Decent for the money

By Carl Beene from Checotah, OK on June 28, 2022

I bought this Bass for around the house and an occasional acoustic gig. I had to do some adjusting on the neck to get the bow out of it, but that was an easy fix. The finish is great but it could use a bone nut and better tuners. Over all its a nice bass and has decent volume unplugged. I haven't plugged it up yet so cant comment on the pickup. the neck feels nice and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good acoustic bass.

NICE QUALITY FOR THE PRICE

By Sweetwater Customer on January 24, 2021

For a beginner's instrument, it sounds and feels great.
I feel it will more than do the job.

Major Flaws

By TayTheBassPlayer on January 5, 2024 Music Background: Jazz / Metal bass player

It's a good bass utill you use it too much and the whole entire jack for the cable falls into the bass. Otherwise its alright, i bought it when it was brand new and $ and I see it everywhere for $ less, which also sucks. id prefer going with a manufacturer who axels in Acoustic guitars and basses.

Steven Markham

By Steven Markham from Washington on May 3, 2021 Music Background: bass trumpet vocal

bought one new. it plays ok but the guitar jack fell out after the 3rd plug in and the wires are to short to put back together. i sent it back as it cannot be fixed without cutting a bigger slot and adding wire. terrible shortcut
