CB10's far exceed battery powered competing speakers

By Gary R. from Tucson, AZ

I am a gigging professional solo singer/guitarist and also play in Duo and band at times. I average 140-150 shows a year. 120 -130 are solo shows. I own Bose S1 Pro Plus speakers, EV Everse 8 speakers, QSC K 8.2's and a pair of Bose L1 Pro 8 towers. I've been gigging with a pair of Everse 8 speakers for the past year with great success.

Short review: The QSC CB10 speakers are the best sounding PA speakers in my collection regardless of battery operation! They elevated the quality and clarity of my sound significantly over the EV Everse 8 speakers I've been using. They Bose S1 Pro Plus speakers have a low headroom threshold for my needs and are too easy to clip. Everse 8's work great and the app is excellent and full featured. I always felt the Everse 8's were decent tonally but my QSC K8.2's sounded more clear, open and natural. If I don't compare, I get totally great sound and performance from the Everse 8's. I love their small size and weight. That said, the QSC CB10 sound quality, dispersion, clarity and headroom far surpasses the Everse 8's. This comes however at the expense of the CB10's being heavier by 10lbs ea. To me, they sound SO SO good, the weight difference is worth it for most gigs. There are a few super small quiet shows I do where the Everse 8 will be fine because I have to play so quiet. But for anything else the CB10's are now my preferred first choice as my primary speakers.

Not all that glitters however is gold. The QSC Loudspeaker control App is just Ok. Its not particularly full featured. It lacks a master volume which would be infinitely handy. The EV App has a master Volume and each channel has all the EQ options, reverb , Comp and ducking on one page. The QSC App requires clicking onto a different tab for EQ. I will say however they sound so great set flat I don't need to access that page once they are set. But it would be nice to have all the settings on one page. I mount my cell phone on a mic stand holder so I can make changes as I play. I've also found the slider controls on the app can be a little laggy if I dont press and hold in the right place to move the setting.

The QSC Loudspeaker control app only offers Reverb, Small, Medium and large. It is however a VERY good sounding reverb. I like a lot. The slider however is very challenging to quickly press and slide to change settings. Again, once it's set I don't really need to change it so I'd like it to perform better but it's not a deal breaker. Maybe a firmware or software update will improve?

The Bluetooth connectivity has been challenging for me and sometimes is spotty. I've had challenges getting it connect, and at times I've had it cut in and out with my cell phone in close proximity where my Everse 8's never had any issues. I am hoping for a software update and I'll contact QSC to discuss. I expect some of these issues will be address with an update.

Despite my angst with the APP, it works well enough and once set, I am loving the best sound I've ever had. If the app improves I'll change my rating to 5 stars. I can't imagine not gigging with these great sounding speakers. The width and clarity of sound is more even than my Everse 8 speaker pair even though they work really well and far out punch their weight class. But the QSC's will cover my needs for resorts, restaurants, bars, corporate events for up to a couple hundred people easily.

Yorkville EXM 10 vs QSC CB 10

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: occasional musician with day job

I bought the Yorkville EXM 10 a while back and have been happy with it. Then this came out with lots of publicity. My curiosity got the best of me, and I finally got to compare them together recently. They both have a similar high sound quality and are both quality products. The main difference is in the effects, number of inputs and controls on the back vs a control app, not in a sound difference.

EXM 10 has more and slightly better quality effects (compression, reverb, delay) and 3 input channels with the controls all on the back. The QSC has few controls on the back, 2 input channels, but a control app to adjust volume, gain, EQ and reverb remotely. Hope this helps, as I feel both are good products.

Boomy , not reliable for gigs.

By Arlo
Music Background: I play

It's loud I'll give it that .

It sounds ok Bluetooth from phone, but guitar and vocal need to eq the snot out of it Or it's a boomy mess.

You can get a decent sound from it if your willing to work at it .

After charging it full 4+hours plugged my guitar with k&k pu into pedals mxr6band spark boost hall of fame verb , tried both channels, several settings could not get a tight non woffy sound , tried the Bluetooth app , then all a sudden nothing worked , nothing. Would not even turn off sat there for a couple hours . Then took the battery out and it shut off . Put bat back in .

Turned it back on , tried the app again and got error saying it needed software update, did that took 20 minuets and the app worked , was able to use 3 band eq

( clunky) and was able to get most of the boom out and a OK sound out of it actually

The built in reverb is useless .

I did not hook up my mixer to try and get a better sound , cause it's supposed to work without it , come on ..

Not an sound .

Iv got 3 qsc k8.2 for the same price so at the same volume so much tighter sound

I guess I expected something close to the k.2 .

In a year when they are finished with there consumer beta test, and they put

3 eq nobs on it and ditch the app I'll try it again ..

Best in class

By Ben D. from Quad Cities
Music Background: Drummer, Sound Engineer, DJ

JUST got a pair of these and will need to do an updated review later, but right out of the box these are on another level. I own 4 Bose S1 Pros and have had the JBL Eon's as well and this is a wildly better speaker. The CB10 has better range and bass extension as well as being more articulate than the Bose S1. It's a full sized PA speaker with the best battery life out there and doesn't weigh any more than its battery-less counterpart parts. I'm excited to get these out in the real world and see how they do.

What a POWERFUL Battery Operated Speaker!

By Cody C.
Music Background: Mobile DJ, Musician, Music Educator

Wow... QSC knocked this one out of the park! I have been waiting for a Battery Powered option from QSC! I am a huge fan of their products and have been using them for many years. This speaker design fills the gap as we have many options for 8inch and 12inch battery powered speakers but the 10inch speaker gives you more loudness and fullness without sacrificing low end response and portability. This speaker is perfect for a DJ using it for a Cocktail Hour or a busking musician with the new vocal presets in channel 1 and the acoustic guitar preset in channel 2. The QSC loud speaker app allows you to control the speaker right from your phone! I am so excited to integrate this speaker into my setup!
