Cordoba C4-CE Nylon String Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Edgeburst Reviews

6-string Acoustic Nylon-string Guitar with Mahogany Top, Back, Sides, and Neck, Pau Ferro Fingerboard, and Fishman Electronics - Edgeburst

Here's the first new addition to the Cordoba Iberia series in eight years — the Cordoba C4-CE. This beautifully crafted traditional Spanish classical guitar features a solid African mahogany top with laminate mahogany back and sides — an unusual tonewood choice for nylon-string guitars, but one that projects an articulated, rich tone. The C4-CE also features a soft cutaway and thinner 50mm-wide neck that feels comfortable in your hands and is great for the often complex chord structures and intricate runs of classical-style guitar. A Fishman Sonitone active pickup system provides beautiful amplified tone when you plug in as well. Other premium appointments include maple binding, an abalone rosette, and a striking finish, putting the Cordoba C4-CE in the wheelhouse of expensive nylon-style guitars, but keeping it at a very affordable price point.

I LOVE it!!!

By Frank from Michigan
Music Background: 54 year old hobby guitarist with 40 years playing experience.

I've wanted a Cordoba for some time. My previous classical was an Ibanez that I liked very much. BUT, this Cordoba is everything you could want in an electric-acoustic nylon string guitar. The craftsmanship is nice. It sounds wonderful on it's own and excellent through my Fender amp.

It's a great guitar for folks, who like me, don't have a whole lot of money to spend. You could pay more, but unless you are a professional musician playing classical recitals, I think this would more than do the job for most folks. I can't say enough good about this guitar, I'm very satisfied with it.

Great learning guitar for the price

By Dayley B. from Miami, FL
Music Background: A few months of classical guitar study

This is my first classical guitar. For the price, you get a very nice sounding guitar for learning that also plugs in, and gives you the ease of playing with the cutaway. This is not the loudest guitar acoustically, but it's a perfect for enjoying the path of learning how to play the classical guitar.

Special thanks to my sales engineer, Pablo Murcia.

New Favorite

By Sweetwater Customer

In only 3 days this has become my favorite guitar out of 5. The action is great, after lowering the truss rod a bit. The sound is vibrant and rings nicely. I love this guitar for finger picking.

QUALITY WITHOUT COMPROMISE

By James C. from Newaygo, Michigan
Music Background: Mom got us (my older brother and I) with Classical piano training (about 60 years past, at age 7); at age 19 started with guitar (mainly playing on a friend’s classical one) three to six hours a day for several years before ever playing public. Now with m

Spend more money if you want, but this instrument has more going for it than guitars I saw costing a lot more. Bone saddle and nut, Spanish fan bracing (like a real classical guitar should have), and the pau ferro board make this play and feel like its more expensive counterparts. I did take a chance with the African mohagany, but I am so pleased with the sound that I actually forgot this could be plugged in after playing all day! (And the battery is included!!) Well Worth the investment and then some! I also purchase the Cordoba "Humicase"…Never underestimate have a good case!!

Instantly in love!

By Amedeo M. from MICHIGAN CITY, IN
Music Background: 15 years as a musician

I am not by any means, and sophisticated guitar player. However, i have a really huge spot in my heart for the sounds of a spanish/Classical guitar. For something simple and beautiful as this guitar, i don't think i could have gone wrong. the electronics really give it a good punch when plugged in and the neck feels amazing. Would recommend, but i don't think "serious" or "sophisticated" players may disagree.

First time purchase of nylon-string guitar

By Jason from Chicago

For the price it's a great instrument, I bought this as I wanted to explore classical and flamenco-style music without dropping a mortgage payment. It's a beautiful and surprisingly _light_ guitar, in fact it's so light it almost feels "toy-like", however this strikes me as the kind of instrument that gets better with age & practice (after breaking it in so to speak).
The action is quite decent and it feels nice to play. Out of the box you'll be re-tuning this thing for like a week, but guessing that's natural w/these types of strings. I enjoy picking this thing up everyday, it's an inviting instrument for practice and that's good enough for me.

C4-CE Review

By Sweetwater Customer

El modelo es algo artesanal muy bonita pero su sonido es algo sordo o muteado, algo incomoda al agarre, el preamp demaciado simple, huesos en plástico. Pienso algo costosa para lo que ofrece.

Great intermediate guitar!

By Paloma from North Carolina
Music Background: Electric Guitar Player, 5 years

Coming from a mainly electric player, I think this is a great guitar. It really sings, and the craftsmanship is good quality. It's pretty ergonomical with the cutout and the slim c-shaped neck. It's also very pretty looking. This guitar happens to be a comfortable transition from my strat/super strat electrics to a classical.

Mahogany top

By David B. from Lynchburg, VA
Music Background: Have played 20 plus years.

I was looking for a nylon stringed guitar with a pickup.... The fishman electronics sound really good. I was curious about the tone difference with a mahogany top and although its a little different than my cedar top.... It sounds good. I am happy with my purchase.
A beautiful Guitar.

I don't really know much about guitars but I like this one.

By Tustin B. from Yucca Valley, CA
Music Background: None

This is my second guitar, got me first in middle school but never really used it, but I've been enjoying this guitar, but I don't really have much to compare it to.

Excellent guitar

By Chris from Kentucky
Music Background: Guitar teacher, musician for 25+ years

This is one cool classical guitar. The nicely bound fretboard is as flat as Kansas, and the richness of the mahogany construction comes through. I would say it sounds a bit different than spruce. I haven't had the chance to really break the guitar in yet, but each time I play it, I like it even more. The cutaway is very smooth and usable. I also own another Cordoba classical, also purchased from Sweetwater, and they are second to none in playability. The first one I purchased sounds even better today. The necks on both of my Cordobas leave other classical necks behind in quality. The matte finish on the back of the necks is flawless. Electronics on this guitar sound great. The price point on both have also been spot-on. Thank you to my excellent Sweetwater sales rep, Zack Davidson.

Great Guitar!

By Sweetwater Customer

Got this beautiful guitar for Christmas. Well constructed, and beautiful in every detail. Mahogany gives it a great warm feel. The more I play it the harder it is to put it down!

Didn't work out for me

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought this guitar and found its construction to be very flimsy. After the sound pickup that runs along the bridge snapped during a rehearsal, Sweetwater was very helpful and sent me a replacement, which turned out to have a problem with the electronics not being properly attached to the body. At that point they allowed me to replace it (again) with a Takamine GC1-CE, which has proven to be very well made, and I'm very happy with it. I don't recommend the Cordoba.

Another Winner From Sweetwater & Cordoba

By John L. from Texas

I was blown away when I unpacked this beautiful instrument! The quality & tone this guitar delivers, unplugged, is worth the inexpensive price alone. And I didn't say cheap! EVERY part of this guitar is 1st rate & quality made.

I'm used to steel string acoustics & electrics, though I did have an Ibanez nylon string, that I gave to my Granddaughter, who is beginning guitar lessons.

Anyway, I picked this guitar out because of the looks(and it is a beautiful instrument), and the reviews on uTube. Price was a perk.

I tuned it up(the strings stay in tune better than any other nylon string guitar I've owned) and the tone is beautiful, and makes you want to play it for hours.

Also, another perk is the Fishman electronics; the guitar is full of tone & resonance, no "dead" frequencies.

All in all, I can't say enough great things about this great guitar, and the service at Sweetwater; Ashton is always looking out for my best interests. JL

Gorgeous guitar !

By Sweetwater Customer

This is my first nylon string guitar. I have played acoustic guitar for about four years. I own a six string Yamaha and a twelve string Breedlove. Ordered the Cordoba C4-CE-Edgeburst from Evan. He was fantastic. He provided top notch customer service. I received the guitar in excellent condition. This is a gorgeous instrument and has a rich warm tone. Excited to learn how to properly play it. Hope that Cordoba produces a gig bag for this guitar soon. Nice job Sweetwater !
