Dont Listen to Bob Titolo
Ive worked with these mics for a few various recording sessions and I have NEVER been anything but impressed by their quality. Most likely, Bob had something affecting his sound somewhere between the mic and his recording software - and it could have been a number of things (bad acoustics, for example). In a treated environment, these microphones give massive depth to anything you put them on. Don't hesitate with these bad boys.
Excellent Microphones
I couldn't be happier with the AKG C414's. I'm using them to record my Mason and Hamlin BB 7' grand piano. I kept hearing how good these microphones were for piano and I was not disappointed. They are very accurate.
Good.. But Not Great
A bit disappointed in these.
Lots of options and flexible, but overall they have a strange "Chinese Veil" about them.. transients are a bit rough sounding to me..
Pretty good / passable (70% rating) but they apparently aren't what they use to be; they're just not great.
