An Amazing Guitar

By Gary Smucker from Fort Lauderdale, FL on February 20, 2024

I would have written this sooner but I've been very busy playing my beautiful new Cordoba guitar..
To say I'm extremely happy with my purchase is an understatement. My Cordoba C12 CD is everything I hoped it would be, and much more.
I thank my Sales Engineer, Timothy VanSlyke for his valuable assistance.
The Cordoba C12 CD is expertly crafted, beautiful to look at… and a sheer joy to play.
Thank you Sweetwater and thank you again Tim.

Great guitar to purchase if looking for luthier-made.

Cordoba C12 Love it!

By Erik from VT on November 18, 2022

I've been playing classical guitar for over 20 years and I've owned very expensive concert level guitars. When I opened the beautiful cordoba case I was stunned with the craftsmanship of this guitar. Right out of the box the guitar was perfect. The only thing I had to do was tune it up. I was very surprised with the volume, cello like basses, and piano like trebles. I've been playing it all weekend and its been hard to put it down. I look forward too many practice hours with this beauty.

Thanks for your help Jimmy

Wonderful Guitar!

By Timothy Schmitt from PORT CHARLOTTE, FL on May 5, 2022 Music Background: Seven day a week player. 40+ hours per week.

I own several Cordoba and Yamaha classical guitars. This C12 has been an amazing work horse and performance guitar. Out performs them all. I use it for my course and class work as well as for performance pieces. Play it from 3-6 hours per day. It is just a great fit for the price. All the usual accolades: great projection, sustain, playability, and so on. Looking forward to adding the C12 Spruce to the guitar stable. For a beginner/intermediate (and above) player this guitar is perfect.

Updated Review

By Timothy Schmitt from PORT CHARLOTTE, FL on December 12, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist. Intermediate. Play around 3 hours per day, every day.

Love this guitar. I have had it for about five weeks. There definitely was an adjustment period as the C12 has strong projection with a strong bass, never ending sustain, and an aggressive attack. These are the features I was looking for and the C12 delivered which can throw you off your game as you need to adjust your playing style. I am now a huge fan of the lattice style body bracing. It does not sound nasally like some critics have indicated. It does have a strong projection as there is no interference from traditional fan braces and the solid tone wood is allowed to come through. Once I learned to adjust my approach this has given a whole new playing range which has brought new life to old pieces. Hence the need to adjust your attack, but don't avoid using this guitars' extended range to your advantage. Once I learned to manage the bass I realized the mid-range and treble I noticed also have greater projection, sustain, and an strong attack compared to my fan braced guitars. It is just that at first you are blown away with the overwhelming bass this guitar can produce. After five weeks of playing the C12 Cedar that adjustment is now natural and I don't have to think about it. I have developed a good balance in my playing style. The punch is there when I need it unlike my traditional fan bracing guitars. I have a couple Yamaha's, other Cordoba's with fan bracing and the C12 just blows them away. I am very happy with this purchase and I am going to add a second C12 (Spruce) to the collection. I hope Cordoba continues with it's lattice body style guitar line.

BOOM out of the box.

By Timothy Schmitt from PORT CHARLOTTE, FL on November 11, 2021 Music Background: Forever a beginner. Always learning. Hobbyist.

What can I say about this guitar that has not been reflected by other reviewers. Love it. Decided to splurge for the C12 for the reported increased projection with the lattice bracing. It did not disappoint. Very noticeable deeper/forceful sound from high to low. Most noticeable with the lower strings/notes (5 & 6), although the full range has improved. Playing style modification required unless the moment calls for extra emphasis. Nice to know I have the power in reserve and can tap into it when I want to make a piece standout. Overall I got what I wanted. Improved projection without amplification. So keeping it intimate and real. Happy to have this guitar in my arsenal. The beauty, quality of the instrument is well covered by others and accurate. Great service from Sweetwater.

A Fantastic Classical Guitar!

By Scott Lee from Florida on September 9, 2021 Music Background: Been playing for 30 years. I enjoy all styles of music but enjoy playing jazz chord melody, blues and Classical guitar styles.

This is my first classical guitar I have ever owned. I played several different brands including a Cordoba C5 & C10.... I watched several reviews on the C12 and decided to purchase one. I Immediately started the ordering process from Sweetwater, the only place I purchase my guitars and equipmentfrom. There were 5 different C12's to pick from. A great option from Sweetwater, you can look and compare each instrument and choose the one you want. My Cordoba came very protectively packaged from Sweetwater. It was better than expected and ready to play! I love it! The attention to detail ease of play are excellent! I decided on the cedar top C12. It has a nice rich, deep tone that rings forever.

Thanks to my sales specialist, Austin for again making my purchase from Sweetwater enjoyable. Austin is personable, knowledgeable and it's a pleasure speaking with him.

From strings, guitar picks, amps and guitars, Sweetwater is miles ahead of all other musical instrument companies.

Cordoba C12 Cedar. Yes!

By Joe from Hemet,, CA on March 15, 2021

Purchased the C12 on January 28. An Excellent guitar. I own an Australian Luthier made guitar I purchased in 2003 for $3500. Today that same guitar sells for $9000 new. I can say this Cordoba is equal to that guitar. The luthier made guitar is a spruce top which is still my choice if I had only one..but I wanted a nice cedar top. This Cordoba far exceeded my hopes. Of course it is loud( lattice) but it has a sweet tone through all registers. It is more than what you pay for it. No reservations. I did switch to Savarez Cantiga normal basses and LaBella 2001 lights. My favorite string combinaion.

Beauty, Projection, Tone

By Sweetwater Customer on January 24, 2021

After months of searching, a friend turned me on to this wonderful guitar. It is well balanced in tone and volume. The lattice bracing and solid woods give sustain. The tone is that of a much higher priced guitar. This one is worth much more than the price! And the humidifier case is like having a free insurance policy!

Great Sustain

By Sweetwater Customer on January 22, 2021 Music Background: 60 years of playing

This guitar has wonderful sustain and great tone. I've played many classical guitars priced much higher than the C12 that can't compare in sound quality.

Amazing

By Josán Perales from Estes Park, CO on November 20, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

Everything I hoped for - beautiful finish and details, amazing response and tone, deep low/bass notes and brilliant mids and highs. The case is elegant and love the built in humidifier (Humicase). Next day shipping was a plus - I can't put it down. Service and my Sweetwater rep were speedy and reliable as always!

Love it!

By Sweetwater Customer on October 8, 2020

It plays great, sounds and looks absolutely beautiful.
Every time I open the humi-case that came with and see this beautiful piece of art I cannot help but smile. Basically, I love everything about it.
However, I will change and play around with other strings just to see if the treble can be a bit more pronounced and better balanced with the low end.
Adam Hunter was/is my sales representative and he was awesome and patient with me finally deciding on this particular guitar.

Oh my. Love it.

By Doron from Chicago on July 3, 2020 Music Background: Casual guitarist. Played a a lot of classical growing up. Back at it after 30 years.

Beautiful instrument and sound. The Humicase is an added bonus that will protect the guitar for years to come.

Compared it with other guitars of interest. The C12 sound quality surpassed my expectations. None came close.

Sweetwater service is top notch!

A gorgeous instrument!

By Brian Sirman from WILLIAMSBURG, VA on June 18, 2020

This guitar has so much going for it. First--and most important-- the sound: every note is clear yet warm, with impressive projection. The C12 has the best tone of any guitar I've ever played, and it's perfect for a variety of genres (I play mostly bossa nova, and some classical).

It's also visually stunning. The various woods complement each other beautifully, and the craftsmanship is exquisite. The photographs show off many of these details, and it looks even better in person!

Aa an added bonus, the C12 comes in Cordoba's HumiCase, which feels sturdy, cradles the guitar in plush red velvet, and will keep it safe and protected for years to come.

Overall, the Cordoba C12 is well worth every penny--and Sweetwater's personalized customer service made my buying experience a pleasure!

This is a fine guitar.

By Adam from Los Angeles on March 29, 2020 Music Background: Clarinet in HS band and Navy band. Flute, Saxophone, Bagpipes just for fun. Ukulele because I like it. And, now, guitar.

It's not cheap, but it's worth the money. It makes me sound like I'm better than I am. I'm really pleased with this instrument

Excellent Classical Guitar

By Douglas Cutcher from Bloomfield Hills, MI on March 6, 2019 Music Background: 30 year, Aging Guitar Hobbist

I've been looking at the Cordoba line of classical guitars now for a while, looking to retire my 1994 Manuel Rodriguez model that I had commissioned 25 years ago. I was looking for an excellent classical guitar with out breaking my bank account. The Cordoba C12 was a model that had me interested enough to try, the Cedar top was my preference, but hard to come by so I setting on the spruce top model. I've had that guitar now for over a year and play it every day, and it more than holds up to my Rodriguez which cost triple what I paid for the C12. I recently picked up this C12 Cedar model to join my guitar collection, it's visually stunning and with some minor set-up to get the action set where I like, it also sounds great out of the box. Only to improve over time as it's spruce cousin has.

If you're interested in a classical guitar with modern design features, excellent playability and exceptional projection and tone, you should strongly consider these Cordoba C12 models, I don't see how you can make a bad choice with either model.

The buying experience with Sweetwater was flawless as always, congratulations to Cordoba for making these fine classical guitars and to Sweetwater for making the purchase so easy...

Great

By Cruz from U. S A. on June 27, 2016 Music Background: Student

This is a beautiful guitar which has a great tone to back it up. It's quality surpasses some of the more price exceeding guitar brands. Overall great instrument with great tone and it's definitely worth the buy.

A Pleasure to Play

By Sweetwater Customer on January 16, 2016 Music Background: Recreational Performer

After spending time with this instrument at Sweetwater I found myself wanting more. The ease of playing was a tribute to the great setup and I found the very sound appealing - darker and richer than my memory of the sound of the spruce version I tried around six months ago.

For some types of music it may offer too little resistance to the player, but for me as a recreational classical player it was a great pleasure. I have a few more instruments to compare but will definitely keep this one in the running.
