Hotone Legacy British Invasion Amp

By Telebender from Key Largo, Florida
Music Background: Classic Rock Blues Player for 44 Years

These Things are Great. Every guitarist should own at least One. First time I plugged into one of these which was the Purple Wind I was floored. This Brit Invasion is equally impressive. I happened to have a 4x12 cab with 20 watt Celestions close by. A partscaster with a thick maple neck going straight in and the tone is unreal. Very easy to dial in some great tones. Great clarity and breakup. Pushes the 4x12 with ease pushing some real air. Could easily gig with this. I haven't been able to exploit the other features these amps offer yet because the results going straight in are that good. Takes pedals well going straight in. Effects loop may make it even better. These are the perfect amp for late night sessions, learning new parts etc. not having to be overwhelmed with volume, one can concentrate on your playing with really great and inspiring tone. IMO these are a No Brainer!

Great Deal

By Charles M. from Crescent City, CA

Use this amp as my everyday practice amp as I don't mind leaving it on all day even if I'm doing errands, etc. Sounds good all by itself playing through a 10" speaker in an old Fender amp whose SS amp died long ago. Add in the pedal board and it's hard to believe such a small amp can sound so good.

Plug and play!!!

By Joshie D. from NY
Music Background: Hobbyist/Bedroom Rockstar

I just got this thing today and after I hooked it up to my 20W cabinet I played the heck out of it. I got really usable tones at "keep my neighbor happy" volumes. Great for an apartment rockstar like me it's an amazing budget head that gets everything from vintage warmth to bone crushing rock tones. Great buy! If it got lost or stolen I would DEFINITELY buy this again

Impressive

By MP from Florida

I took a chance - it's small, it doesn't cost that much.......what the heck?
Well, this thing sounds fantastic! Played through a 10" - 30W Celestion in a small cab, I couldn't believe the tone and even the volume coming out . It really does remind me of a 60's VOX - lots of upper-mid chime.

EQ controls do what you want them to - you turn them and you hear a change (unlike too many amps where the tone controls do almost nothing). The gain control takes it from clean, through bluesy, to late 60's / 70's overdrive. Is it the best OD I've ever heard? No, but for a $99 practice amp, it sound darn good!
I plan to use it for recording in my home studio (I no longer live where I can record a mic'd-up amp), and my first tests are very favorable.

I'm happy with my purchase (and Sweetwater alway ships quick & accurately - and you get a bag of candy!)

Hotone British INVASION

By Greenlee from NJ

I called and it arrived fast..a day before Chris said it would.
PLUGGED in some headphones and enjoyed myself right away.
Has an input for your phone to play along with.
Gives a Vox sound if you cant imagine owning or cranking an AC30. Would you replace that amp with this? No.
But its fun and cheaper than AC type pedals.
I hooked up a cab w a 12" Jensen and rocked away at bedroom volumes.
Has an effect loop which didnt work well w my overdrive pedal. I had to put it before the amp. Worked great. Uses
a wall plug w a small brick to power it.

Amazing Tone

By IM4Tone from State of Confusion
Music Background: Member of a local band

First I purchased the Hotone Mojo Diamond (Fender Deluxe emulator) some months back. I wrote a review and then a follow up review on it. I thought it was so good that, in addition to the great YouTube videos, was enticed into getting the British Invasion (a Vox AC30 wannabe). I think I may even like it better. Never had a real AC30, being put off by their weight, but I always loved their tone. This little amp does not disappoint. I run it thru a Fryette PS-2 which can really boost the volume with it's 50 watts of tube power.

And for those planning to use it alone (no PS-2), it seems a bit louder than the Mojo Diamond with a clean setting.

This Hotone Nano Legacy series amps are a tremendous value with great, realistic tone. There may possibly be a Purple Wind in my future, IDK. If you already own a quality speaker cabinet, buying one of these is a must!

British Invasion

By Tommy H. from Smyrna, TN
Music Background: Been around a long time

I am very impressed with this little jewel. It works perfectly for me and is what I have spent too much money finding it. At $ It is such a bargain. It sounds like you want it to sound. The 5 watts feeds most condenser mikes with just the right sound pressure level. I am only using a 1-12 cabinet, but that is all I need. Best buy for the money by hundreds. I may try one of the others just to try to blend them.

great little amp. I hooked it up with a reverb pedal and it sounded like a real amp. I just wish it was a bit more powerful, like the orange, then it would rule.

I was checking out at Sweetwater and they had a pile of these on a table. For $, I couldn't pass it up. This little monster sounds as good as It looks!! I have three different 1X12 cabs and it runs them very well.. Even has an effects loop!!!! Really?? I wish my Fender 65 Deluxe had that!

Seems impossible

By Matt from Midwest
Music Background: Playing for 25 years, primarily songwriting and recording

This thing has no business sounding as good as it does. It simply sounds like a good amp. Does it nail the Vox sound? It gets close, and that's good enough for me. The three band EQ is voiced well and has a good range. The volume is enough for anything you might do at home (I use a great sounding Orange PPC108 cabinet to keep things small but solid).

The effects loop is a fantastic feature at this price and size. Also, the headphone/line out does not automatically kill the speaker. I like that, because I can record direct with real time monitoring. It also works great with dirt pedals, adding a bit of grit of its own. I can also hook this up to headphones or to my computer, and record or practice silently at any hour. I'll definitely be getting more Nano Legacy heads from Sweetwater! In fact, I already ordered the Purple Wind and Mojo Diamond.

Legitimately impressed.

By Josh
Music Background: Songwriter, Music Director

Bought this amp because it's $100. I've played (and owned...) $2k amps that didn't sound as good as this little guy. It's not the best I've ever heard and it does lack a little bit of that character that valves provide but I could and will live with this amp for a while. I am using a Vintage Celestion Blue. The amp is not very loud. It's definitely a good bedroom amp or an amp to bring with you and mic up

Great little amp if you realize...

By Nate from Indiana

It's a little amp. Great chimy, gritty tones and a good bit of volume for what this is. I play mine through an EVH 4x12 and it really sounds great. It can get plenty loud for studio/bedroom use, and it can compete well with a lot of live playing situations - to an extent. I ran mine at a band rehearsal with the master volume about 3/4's of max and it lasted about 30 minutes until the tone started to suffer as the head heated up. Giving it time to rest and cool down took care of the problem, but this isn't something you can run that high (or higher) consistently. That said, these little amps have a great 1/8" line out with speaker compensation that does a very good job at giving some authentic tone. With the right connections, running this to FOH would yield a good live tone if one desired. These amps offer a lot of tonal variety for the gigging musician. Since they are solid state, I run mine without a loud and use the effects send into my bigger EVH head. Using the Brit Invasion preamp combined with the tube power amp of my bigger head is awesome and easily opens up a new variety of tones for when the time calls for a vox-ish tone but loud volume. Aside from being great rehearsal or studio stalwarts, these Nano amps from Hotone can be integrated into your live arsenal and a variety of ways.

Hotone Nano Legacy British Invasion Amp Head

By Digg-Dugg from A batcave somewhere in Ohio
Music Background: 40 Years

I just got this amp (24 hour shipping arrival! Incredible! Thanks Sweetwater!) and have it running through a 2x12 8 ohm cabinet with a Gibson ES335, I have an MXR Phase 90 and a modded Danelectro Mini Echo pedal running through the effects loop and the sound is just gorgeous! Beautiful clear bright tones all the way to way overdriven. It loves my DOD250 overdrive pedal and Tonebender MKII Professional with or without my buffers added in. It fits in my pocket and is packed with features. It has an MP3 player input and headphones output in addition to the effects loop. It has a 3 band EQ which works and sounds great. I have not tried the headphone output yet because I have none but will be getting some soon I hope. I plan on trying to collect all five versions of these amps and a few of their awesome little pedals. I highly recommend these amps! I have never done a review until now and only because I love it so much. Its loud enough to play with a 4 piece band with a mic on it. It does not have a line out but I am going to figure out how to make one with a speaker cab simulator built in so I can just run it to the board Great little amp!

Seriously, only $100?

By Bryan M. from Moncks Corner, SC
Music Background: noob

This is a great amp that does exactly what it says, “It captures the main characteristics of the legendary AC30 at low volume.” I have it paired with an Egnater Rebel 112x cab and it's impressive. Some reviews complain it’s not loud enough but I’ve had no issues using it as a bedroom practice amp. I never would have thought an amp so cheap ($100) could sound so good. I have a THR10C but in some cases prefer the Hotone.

Nano British invasion

By Ron S. from Federal Way, Washington
Music Background: Retired musician

This amp sounds incredible through the headphone out (using Sony MDR 7506), so I got the Orange PPC108 cab for it, and although it still sounds OK, it sounds MUCH better through the phones, as close to the Vox AC30 as you can get. So for a practice amp, use the phone out rather than a speaker, unless you want/need other people to hear.
