MXR M293 Booster Mini Boost Pedal Reviews
The MXR Booster pedal combines the tone-enhancing front end of the Dunlop Echoplex preamp with the boosting power of the MXR Micro Amp. Now you can drive your amp to breakup with the Booster's +26dB of added gain, controlled by the Volume knob, then sweeten or subdue your treble end with the onboard Tone control. The MXR Booster is handy enough as a standalone boost and EQ pedal. But where it becomes invaluable is for tone stacking: drive the Booster into your favorite fuzz or overdrive to let loose new layers of sonic mayhem. Sweetwater guitarists instantly fell in love with the MXR Booster's fits-anywhere, matches-anything compact size and brushed metal enclosure.

Great boost!
This pedal has a ridiculous amount of boost/volume available, and an internal knob to adjust the amount of added mids and harmonic overtones - from zero, to a lot! After playing around with the settings at bit, I decided the factory settings were already perfect.
I'm currently using this in front of an MXR Superbad@ss distortion, and the two pair beautifully for switching between crunch and lead sounds. But I'm sure it would work well in front of just about anything.
If you are in the market for a boost, this little guy would be hard to beat.
Boosts volume, sweetens tones!
I have this in my loop for a solo boost. It raises the volume and allows for a difference-making tone sweetening that makes it perfect for my purposes. MXR's EQs and boosts continue to impress.
Great booster pedal !
Mxr mini pedal did it for me! Though, it did not work very well thru the front of the amp but is top notch thru the effects loop! Great booster pedal !
Perfect booster
If you want a badass full frequency booster then this is the ticket
Hard to write review for just a boost but...
GREAT little pedal built like a tank, quiet. Pulled it right out of the box and placed it on my pedalboard, left the internal settings alone - dialed in tone and volume - sweet pure gain with a nice thick component to it... Hard to get excited about just a boost pedal - but I am re-discovering some GREAT gain staging options for old pedals, needed a clean boost - this works perfectly. Love MXR - great service, love Sweetwater - great gear and advice, and I thank my long time sales engineer Chris McCown making this recommendation - I was going in a different direction - he suggested the MXR, really GREAT advice, it has the "thickness" of the EP Boost, with more flexibility (tone!), and clean and silent!).
Great boost!
I needed something to cut through the mix during leads. This is exactly what I was looking for! Very little effect on my original tone, although it can be adjusted, enough volume increase to bring forth all of the individual notes without causing feedback.
Stellar Lead Boost!
I run this little beast in the effects loop as a Lead Boost, just like I would normally run a a Micro Amp, but there’s a tonal difference. This pedal seems to produce more low end which works great for thickening single-note licks and solos. That, mixed with the growl of the EP Preamp, plus the ability to adjust the amount of growl and boost level makes this 2 in 1 boost worth every penny!
Super-Versatile Boost Pedal!
This little pedal is just awesome! I prefer it as a lead boost for single note stuff. It can also create some some really ragged, trashy, sludgy distortion blended with an overdriven amp. IMO, it"s not so great for palm-muted heavy stuff. But it does many other things great. You can turn off the EP pot, then you have a Micro Amp, or you can crank the EP pot, figure out the boost range, and you have something similar to the EP Preamp. Or, dial in any Micro Amp/EP blend combo you like for a bunch of different sounds! Very cool, great-sounding fun little pedal!
Great way to drive gain
I use a Zakk MXR Overdrive on my gig rig to get those pinch harmonics and huge gain. I purchased this mini pedal for my practice amp, and it works as good for that purpose. I put it in the signal chain, set tone about 1 o'clock, and volume about 8 o'clock, and it gives that little bit of magic to the much smaller tube practice amp, driving the gain channel enough to get some harmonic action going, and not killing the clean channel, getting a nice slightly overdriven sound. I haven't tweaked on the internal drive setting, as it did just what I wanted it to do out of the box without opening it up.
Vintage tone, Moden Controls
This replaced a very famous "Echoplex preamp"on my board, the ability to dial in how much of the Echoplex flavor you'd like and the addition of an external tone control cant be beat!
