IK Multimedia iRig BlueTurn Bluetooth Page Turner Reviews

Bluetooth LE Page Turner with 2 Switches and 33' Range

Mobile devices are only as useful onstage as the gear that lets you access them, which makes IK Multimedia's iRig BlueTurn an essential tool for taking your digital lyric sheets, chord charts, or scores onstage. The iRig BlueTurn is a remarkably simple Bluetooth LE controller with two backlit soft footswitches you can set up to send Page Up/Page Down, Arrow Up/Arrow Down, or Arrow Left/Arrow Right keyboard messages to your computer or mobile device. Performing artists here at Sweetwater particularly appreciate the iRig BlueTurn's compact design, and since it can run for many hours on just a pair of AAA batteries, you'll never be without hands-free convenience again.

It Works!

By Sweetwater Customer on January 22, 2024

I purchased this device to replace another brand of page turner that I purchased elsewhere that failed after one week of use. This BlueTurn device is quality construction, and works as advertised. Just be sure to read the instructions before using; they are very specific due to the versatility of the device. I am very, very happy! Thanks, Sweetwater!

Great Page-turner

By Micah from Toledo, Ohio on October 25, 2023 Music Background: Novice Guitar and Ukulele Player. Intermediate Piano Player.

I have been using Songbook Chordpro on my iPad mini and needed a way to easily advance the song. The BlueTurn quickly connected and works great. Shipping was fast, and Andy called to make sure that I didn't have any trouble getting it set up.

Works perfectly

By Suzannah from Florida on August 11, 2023 Music Background: Piano, Harp

I am super impressed with this little gadget. I took it out of the box and(even though I am technically challenged) had it set up in minutes. The app I'm using for my music is KeyScore. That was not listed as an app that is usable with this turner, but it connected immediately and is working perfectly. Now I can keep both hands on the harp and turn pages without a hesitation. I couldn't be happier with this product!

Only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner

By james page from petaluma, CA on August 10, 2023

Great product. Behaves just as i hoped it would. Sweetwater ordering process was great and shipping was lightning fast.

It was pretty close to plug and play for me. Would suggest it for anyone needing a reliable page turner.

Essential little tool for musicians using iPad

By Brad from Portland on May 16, 2023 Music Background: A zillion gigs since 1980.

I use the BlueTurn to advance songs in OnSong at gigs, and it works just as expected. It's essentially a two-button Bluetooth keyboard that does Page Up/Page Down, which works great for most apps. It's super sturdy and easy to see. The buttons are firm and silent for foot operation.

If you want to make sure that the app you use will work, try first connecting a random Bluetooth keyboard to your iPad and see if the Page Up/Down or arrow keys work to advance songs. If they do, then the BlueTurn will work splendidly.

It's so good I bought it twice. During the pandemic, my old BlueTurn sat on a shelf too long and the batteries leaked very, very badly, damaging the unit beyond repair, and so I bought another. Lesson learned - watch out for AAA batteries, they are more prone to leaking that others!

Best page turner

By Joe C. from GILBERTSVILLE, PA on June 25, 2022 Music Background: Writing, playing, performing and enjoying music for over 55 years!

When I received this little guy and was able to connect it to my Ipad utilizing the OnSong app, it appeared to work flawlessly. I've used it for almost five years now, mostly for virtual song lists and occasionally as a chord and lyric page turner. I don't know why, but lately it turns or scrolls two pages or screens at a time. This can be a bit disconcerting especially when performing a tune or reading the lyrics one hasn't actually memorized.(Shame on Me) I am guessing that the micro switch located on the circuit board inside the unit has reached the end of it's life, as most do over time.
However, I have decided to purchase another as it has proven to be generally reliable, simple to use, silent and highly visible under my keyboard stand where it sits on top of my RPU-3 pedal unit. So I have given it five stars for the five years of faithful operation. I will continue using the old one in my practice setup. Thanks, IK Multimedia and Sweetwater Sound!

Simple and Easy to Use

By Tom Godfrey from Albuquerque, NM on March 2, 2022 Music Background: Professional guitarist and teacher

I use the Blue Turn with my iPad, and it works great. It's easy to set up and use, and it has a long battery life. I'm a guitar player, which makes turning pages a problem. I load all my music onto my iPad using the Gig Book Pro app, and with this little Bluetooth device, turning pages is a breeze.

IRig Blue Turn pedal

By Robin Neighbors on November 24, 2021 Music Background: Church music

I use this pedal with my iPad Pro and an app called Paperless Music. The app is dirt cheap and incredible. You can put all your music on the iPad and then turn the pages with your foot using this pedal. If you're not using this app with the iRig Blue Turn pedal you are really missing out. You won't be disappointed. Get the app. Get the pedal.

sturdy. easy to see. not noisy

By Joshua from Harvey, LA on April 18, 2021 Music Background: Bass, Drums

Is sturdy with metal case construction.
Buttons are blue and rubbery so that no noise is produced.
Has on-off switch on back( nice that you can't accidentally turn it on in your luggage and drain battery)
I never had an issue with pressing a button and not having it fire off.
I had to use my tennis shoes vs my dress shoes since my tennis shoes are a bit narrower; it is possible to 'fat foot' press on both buttons by accident.
I'm 5'4" in height, so my foot isn't the biggest.
If I could change anything, it would likely be the width of the buttons, but at the time of comparison, this was the best for my budget.
I wouldn't change my purchase decision after having tried this item for 3 weeks at church for playing bass guitar.
I bluetooth-bound this BlueTurn to my no-name-brand $100 cheapie Android tablet and didn't have to even install any software to get it to work!

Easy!

By Dan Hurne on September 22, 2020 Music Background: Buzzer, plucker, picker, plinker,,,,, :)

I'm the base player for our worship team and needed something to turn the pages on my Ipad and this Works! I used it the first time last Sunday. Didn't have to download anything but configure the Onsong app to recognize it. I was gonna just order it since it had a limited time offer but got in contact with my sales engineer Erik Molenaar. Even on such a small dollar item he spent a lot of time on the phone walking me through the order and even saved me some more money! Thanks Erik!

Great product.

By Sweetwater Customer on May 1, 2020 Music Background: Worship drummer

I bought this after using one and it is so easy to use. It connects very easily to my iPad which I use to change song notes during a set. As a drummer it's not always easy to change pages and using my foot makes it easy.

Super easy to sync to my iPads Bluetooth, picked up the Blue Box right away! Using this along with iKlip stage on my iPad is definitely a game changer for my gigs. Wish I’d gotten one of these a long time ago! I definitely highly recommend to all gigging musicians.

Even though I haven"t had a chance to use the pedal yet, I want to tell you about my friend Jeff Law. I started working with Jeff several years ago as a church music director and I feel like I have known him forever! Always knowledgeable, always friendly, quick to crack a little joke and he listens to what I need.
And it never hurts that the stuff is always here in a couple of days!

I have since retired but I will say that whenever I might need something I will turn to Jeff and Sweetwater for my equipment……it doesn"t get any better than this!!

Works great!

By Denise on August 15, 2019 Music Background: Full time professional musician/vocalist 40 yrs.

Paired easily. Works perfectly. No delay. I use it with Pia Score on an iPad. Small enough to fit in a purse. Have not tried the other 2 modes. Happy to be living without a huge binder of music for praise band and other irregular jobs. I won't use it on stage though with my regular gigs but it would be handy for that as well for anyone who normally uses a music stand.

This little gadget does exactly what it says it does. It's easy to set up, easy to use, and is about the size of my fist. I use it to turn virtual pages on my iPad while keeping both hands free to play the guitar. I use it on all my gigs. Great product and not too pricey.

iRig Blueturn with iPad

By Max G from Saint Louis MO on March 25, 2019 Music Background: Semi Pro Acoustic Guitar & Vocal

- Works well with iPad running OnSong app.
- Very easy to set up and use.
- Buttons are lit and easy to see on a dark stage.
- Compact with small storage and stage space requirements
- Nice functions, scrolls up or down and flips forward or backward between songs in a play list.
- Runs for several gigs on two 3A batteries. Battery light blinks when low. (Some pedals have rechargeable batteries in them, in contrast, carrying spare batteries and changing them may be less of a hassle than carrying a charger and getting it plugged in and connected when batteries run low.)
- Housing and construction seem very durable. (I have accidentally put much of my weight on it without damaging it.)
- Good cost for the functionality
- You must turn this pedal off for iPad onboard keypad to appear

By Sweetwater Customer on October 9, 2018

There was very little learning curve to this piece of equipment. I use it in worship and found it to be better than I anticipated. I would recommend it to anyone using a tablet for their music for hands-free page turning. The cost was appropriate for this page turner. Thank you, Sweetwater!

Hey...It works!

By Steve from South Carolina on August 3, 2018 Music Background: musician / studio owner for over 40 years

Not a lot to say about this little gem. It has a simple function. But how many times have I tried to achieve a simple task only to be lead down the rabbit hole of updates and incompatibility! Not with the iRig Blue Turn. Just turn it on and my iPad 4th Gen found it and connected without any issues. And it has maintained that connection, even when turning off or rebooting the iPad. #NoHeadaches

IRig Blueturn Does what I need!

By John from Bend, Oregon on September 26, 2022 Music Background: Gigging hobbyist singer song writer and guitar player

I use an iPad Pro 12.9 and foreshore to store all my song charts. I find it a bit difficult to turn pages with a hand swipe when performing. I was afraid that a page turner would be difficult to sync with the iPad and foreshore but was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. I put batteries in the iRig blueturn, turned it on, turned on Bluetooth on the iPad and voila! It worked perfectly. The size, shape, and function are all great. The only fault I could find and thus the 4 star rating, would be that I would prefer it in a sturdier metal case to add strength and stability on the floor. Overall a great piece of gear so far. Time will tell regarding durability. Money well spent. John

iBlue Turn really turns the page

By Carl from Florida on December 7, 2018

I struggled with sheet music all over the place and always falling off the piano. It"s hard to read it out of order and on the floor.

In a YouTube video, I saw a pianist with a digital pad in place of sheet music. On it was sheet music that was changing without moving the hands from the keyboard. I was all in, but did not know of the tech used to control the pad. I use an iPad. Sweetwater had the answer! The iBlue Turn was the tech I needed. Priced well, easy to connect via Bluetooth it turns pages flawlessly. I found it easy to control with my left foot.

I"d give it 5+ stars if it did not have an issue with using the virtual pad keyboard while the iRig Turn is connected. There is a work around, but hey, let"s have it all.

Awesome except for one thing...

This is the best one out there-- LOVE the fact that you can just switch it on without a long button press and timing. LOVE the lit buttons. But you can't mount it on a pedal board and get at the switch! The switch needs to be on the side, and even better would be to have 9v external power capability.

iRig Blue Turn

By Dennis from St. Louis on April 12, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist Vocalist

This pedal works great with OnSong. OnSong has it along with several other pedalslisted inside the software and the set up is easy. Preset adjustments can be made within OnSong to control the functions. One of the more important functions that can be adjusted is the scrolling speed. The default is fairly fast and the words fly by in a blur that can make it difficult to see the last line where you left off. By slowing the scroll speed you can see the last line as it moves up the screen versus the quick burst and blur.

Good but visit website before buying

By MikeD from South Carolina on March 15, 2018

BlueTurn works great... provided you have compatible app. My advice is to visit the IK website and choose one of the apps reported to work with this device. I (unfortunately) had all my music in an app that was not compatible (would not scroll when switch was activated). I was able to move all my music to a new app but it took hours. All good now.

Blue Turn and Interfaces and Loss of Keyboard Capability

By Jay Schwalm from LOUISVILLE, KY on April 1, 2024

Overall, this is a nice well-made product. It works as advertised within the ability of the application you are using. I paired it with a Galaxy S9 (up to date) and that was no problem at all. However, when trying to use with Ultimate Guitar problems ensued. I went through UG's procedures to connect, and it does, but will not scroll. The best I was able to accomplish was to toggle autoscrolling on/off. I used with GuitarTab and it works well. I should mention that you should use "Mode 2" for full page scrolling otherwise it will be line by line. I also opened PDF's in Samsung PDF Viewer and it scrolls fine. Basically, UG just doesn't seem to work. I have written to them but as suspected there is no response. I is worth mentioning, and my reason for the 4 instead of 5 star. You lose keyboard function if this is paired. So, if you were going to use with a number of different selections you will have some issues. I did get my pen to work but can't do much. My thought but I haven't tested is to create a playlist and just try to toggle through using a pen on the tablet. I have had no success in pairing to a laptop using Windows 10. It doesn't seem to be discoverable by Bluetooth.

Works as designed, but...

By Robert from Florida on May 31, 2023 Music Background: I play guitar in a church band.

As a guitar player, I appreciate being able to turn pages with a tap of the foot. This device was easy to pair with my iPad and works as described. My only complaint is the batteries tend to die in the middle of a live performance. I wish it had a 9v connector so I could use the power supply on my pedal board.

good but needs two simple upgrades

By Joey from Florida on April 7, 2017 Music Background: professional

It needs an external power source option, and at the very least it needs to have the on off switch located somewhere other than the bottom. After every gig, I have to disconnect it from the pedal board, and turn it off. Would be easier to just hit a side switch for that. External power would also save on batteries and eliminate the need to change an on off switch at all.

Simple, reasonably priced

By Maurice Tani from San Francisco on November 3, 2016 Music Background: Singer-songwriter-bandleader

I wanted a simple, basic, 2-button unit that just allowed me to flip through pages on my iPad. This thing fills the bill. The main problem I have had is that it isn't supported by every pdf reader -in particular, the one I had been using (Goodreader). Rather than do a lot of research, or rolling the dice with apps I knew nothing about, I decided to be safe and try iRig's own iKlip Stage app.

The iRig pedal itself is fine. Works well and was easy to set up. Sturdy, compact. I wish it had an AC-adapter input so it could be mounted and powered of a pedalboard -batteries make me nervous, though I'm still on my first set..

iKlip Stage... not so much. It was "free", but as soon as I started loading my files in, it topped out and made me buy the "real" version. I saw no mention of this before. Ah well, "free" is nearly always to good to be true, but the most disappointing thing about iKlip Stage is the way it organizes the material.

All the files are in one directory. I have hundreds. I'd want them organized into sub-directories so that I don't have to scroll through everything I have.

The assumption is that you create setlists by dragging files from the master directory into a set you create, name and use on stage. The songs appear in the order you create and you just keep flipping forward through each song and into the next. That's fine until you need to make a change on stage -which I always do.

IKlip Stage displays the setlist as large thumbnail images of each document -too small to read but large enough that you can only view 6 without scrolling. There really should be a way to view a setlist as a LIST. To change the order, you drag the thumbnails up and down but moving them and making the list scroll is clumsy.

And if I want to make a substitution on the fly, I have to go back to the file list and dig through the hundreds of files to find the one I want. I can then either drag it into the set I was playing off and then move it to the appropriate position (clumsy), or I can simply open it from the master file list -but the scrolling/pageturn function only works in the set list!

I'll probably switch to some other app as soon as I can find one that does what I want and works with the BlueTurn pedal. That the pedal itself doesn't work with every app universally is irritating but I'm not sure where to place the blame on that.

Easy, but…

By Sweetwater Customer from MN on October 10, 2023

Easily connects to Bluetooth and works wonderfully.
The drawbacks almost outweigh the benefits, though.
1) No A/C option
2) No power save
There are other Bluetooth pedals that have both of these options.
Because this doesn't, you WILL need a LOT of AAA batteries.

Poor design but works fine

By Juan D from Austin on July 10, 2023

Works as advertised however the fact that the on/off switch is on the bottom of the pedal means you can't add it to your pedal board without having to pull it on and off every time you need to turn it on/off. Would've been better if the on/off switch were in a more accessible spot.

Blink! Blink!

By Dominic Nuciforo Sr from Leesburg, FL on November 25, 2022 Music Background: Keyboardist

That's what my iRig did on the job. :-( I ordered an iRig for use with my iPad on band gigs. The first time I used it, it FAILED! The batteries wore about before the 4 hr. performance was finished. The power light blinked on and off, the "Down Page" Arrow was no longer lit up. I had to turn the pages by hand because the iRig Blue Turn was not working.

I rig pedal

By Sweetwater Customer on January 5, 2022 Music Background: Musician

I was very excited to receive this pedal but when I got it hooked up i discovered it has a fluke in it as it does not always want to pair with my tablet and sometimes it can take me up to 15 minutes for it to get it to pair. Once paired it works fine.

To Be Determined

By Dean from Louisville, KY on October 27, 2016 Music Background: Bass player

I liked the look and feel, and options seem to be good enough for what I need... which is changing pages on an iPad.
What was not mentioned... is that it requires a Gen 3 or newer device. Guess what I have... Gen 2. Through a series of fortunate events, I was able to get a new iPadPro (just got it) and will now be able to select an app (probably going with forScore). Looking forward to it.

The product seemed to be like a good product and I definitely liked the bluetooth, got enough cords hanging around. Beware this will only work with Ipad, Iphone and Android. I figured if it worked with Android then somebody would have made it compatible with a windows product like my Surface. Hoping they come out with a patch or drivers to make it work.

IK Blue Turn Stopped Working on iPAD iOS 15

By Mark Harold from Napa, CA on February 24, 2022 Music Background: Professional musician. Singer & guitarist.

My Blue Turn stopped working once I updated my iPAD iOS to 15+. I used it successfully for a couple of years to turn song pages I created in Word, Pages and as PDFs. The files are housed in my Dropbox app so I can edit them on my iMAC and have them on my iPhone and iPAD. No luck with IK Multimedia to solve this issue. I will need to find another page turner. Not happy!

Any ideas are welcome!

Makes Me work for it. Won't work for me.

By G. from santa monica, CA on November 24, 2023 Music Background: live performance

My platform: iPhone Xr ( iOS 15.5)
My Goal: Turn pages in Apple's native app "Pages." Turn pages in Ultimate Guitar app.
My Pedal: iRig Blue Turn purchased November, 2023

IK Multimedia and Fender Musical Instruments Corporation collects your personal information, you have to register the model # and serial #, license, authorize, agree, set up a user account, username, password, download quick start guide/user manual and then at that point you are bombarded with solicitations at ikmultimedia's website and to your email address. You've now set up a point of purchase platform for yourself.

Still, the iRig Blue Turn will not turn a page.

After reading the quick start guide/user manual, you discover you are not searching for drivers or firmware installations, you need an app from an additional developer compatible with your iPhone, such as "forScore."

IK Multimedia makes it hard to find these so called "free" apps available for download on their website but there are 30 different ones. Now you have to research compatibility, read reviews, watch demos, etc. to see what app you need/want.

Next, you have to transfer all your original sheet music into the format of this new app that you've chosen, so you may need additional scanning apps or "convert" software to make this happen.

If you do decide to jump through all these hoops, the app developer may start to charge a recurring subscription fee, holding your sheet music hostage.

If the developer of the app or maker of the iRig stops offering support, you may not be able to access your sheet music using your current iPhone or device. All that would remain is your personal/account information shared between three companies.

I want a bluetooth page turner that communicates with native Apple apps right out of the box.

Sweetwater's great technical support tells me that the "PageFlip Butterfly" can mimic short cut keyboard strokes, so it would be able to remotely turn pages on Apple's native apps (the ones that use short cut keyboard strokes). That means it would work on my iMac to turn pages in "Pages." It seems my goal is met.

But alas, my iPhone (or iPad for that matter), on the other hand, does not use a keyboard or keyboard short cut strokes. It uses "gestures" and swiping motions so this Butterfly would not work.
