Love these!

By Sweetwater Customer from MA

I was worried about this due to the poor ratings, but now that I have it, I feel very good about it. While I agree, the kick extender isn't great, the head itself is. I also agree it would be better if it sat inside the rim, but overall my first impression is very good. The adjustible straps keep it snug and, since it's just for practicing, the volume is fine.

RTOM Black Hole Mesh - 24"

By Robert G.

RTOM’s black hole mesh practice pads are nothing short of amazing for drummers wanting to practice at low volumes while also retaining the sound of their drums. Paired with Zildjian L80 cymbals, you can practice during the day without disturbing your neighbors. The snare and tom conversion practice pads are easy to install and sound great. Unfortunately, when it comes to the bass drum pad, it falls short. At first, I wasn’t too concerned about it snapping on like the other pads RTOM offers and even looked past the ugliness of the bungie chords that strap onto your bass drum to keep it secure.
The problem is the pedal adapter. It’s thin and leaves your batter side of your bass drum practically flesh against the floor; only separated by a piece of foam. You could lower your resonant side to remove the sloped angle, but then your veneer will just be flesh against your drum rug (potentially rubbing over time). The end you attach your bass pedal to features a giant metal bulge that protrudes for some unknown reason. Regardless of how much I tighten down my bass pedal (DW MDD), within twenty minutes I’ll have to push my pedal forwards again and retighten to continue playing.
It sounds great and feels better then the other mesh products on the market but, for the amount of money they’re asking for this product; go with something else. It’s a right step in the direction but, this individual product needs some revision.

Inconvenient setup

By Nate from Champaign, IL

Fitment/Quality of the Black Hole Mesh heads on the snare/toms is fantastic. Fast, easy, and retains some tone of your drums unlike other options for a practice setup. I can confirm they do compliment the Zildjian L80 cymbals very nicely.
The bass drum version however does not offer the same experience. Installing this should be as simple and quick as the snare/toms. The bungee retention is fine but the pedal adapter is where this product loses me. I wish it was undersized so it fit just inside the hoop instead of just sitting awkwardly on top of the lugs. The tone of the bass drum was also too muted and does not match the snare/toms. I will look for an alternative for my bass drum practice setup.
