Erica Synths Black LPG Analog Eurorack Lowpass Gate Module
Erica Synths Black LPG Analog Eurorack Lowpass Gate Module Reviews
Devised by synth pioneer Don Buchla, the lowpass gate was instrumental to the distinctive West Coast synthesis sound. Essentially, a voltage-controlled filter merged with a voltage-controlled amplifier, a lowpass gate provides synthesists with a unique means for shaping the harmonic content of a signal. Erica Synths puts their own twist on this classic formulation with the Erica Synths LPG lowpass gate for Eurorack. In contrast to the original Buchla design, which employed a 1st order (or single-pole) VCF, the Black LPG features a 2nd-order (2-pole) VCF, providing a tighter sound and the ability to dramatically exaggerate resonance at the cutoff point — just the thing for cooking up squelching acid bass lines. Sweep the offset manually using the satisfyingly chunky knob, or via an external modulation source or sequencer, and prepare yourself for some seriously animated aural emanations. Plus, flip on the Reso Drive to douse your patch in signature Erica Synths’s saturation. Another standout feature for synthesists at Sweetwater is the Black LPG’s mode selector, which allows you to decouple the VCF and VCA and use them independently — a super handy value-add. Toss in a built-in decay envelope, and you get one of the most flexible and fun lowpass gates available for Eurorack!
While this isn't an item we normally stock, we can still get it to you as fast as possible due to our great relationship with Erica Synths. Go ahead and place your order and we'll follow up shortly to let you know when to expect it. Estimated May 2026.
Not the cheapest LPG
It's a LPG, it does what it does. If you are short on rack space, probably consider a make noise Lxd or Optomix to get more LPGs for your HP, but you lose some of the nice features of this module like adjustable decay in the vactoral, resonance, or switchable operating modes. The resonance on this module is reminiscent of a 303, although I have no idea what type of filter topology is in this circuit, making this module pretty good for subtractive/east coast synthesis if you like doing tonal stuff in addition to Bucharest bongos.
