Shure Beta 98AD/C Cardioid Condenser Clip-on Gooseneck Drum Microphone Reviews
Need to maneuver your mic into a tight spot on the drums? Then you'll love Shure's Beta 98AD/C mini condenser microphone. Its diminuitive size makes the Beta 98AD/C perfect for situations in which a full-sized mic just won't fit - but, this mini mic doesn't compromise on impressive, accurate sound. Its cardioid pickup pattern helps keep unwanted outside sounds at bay, while the included drum mount and flexible gooseneck makes it easy to mount the Beta 98AD/C on toms, snares, or other percussion instruments. It's perfect for both the stage and the studio!

Great mic for snare and toms!
I have a custom made drumset with isolation mounts on the rack toms and a Gibraltar rack system, so using a drum mic with a regular hoop clamp wasn't going to work for me. The Shure mount will clamp onto either the isolation mount or a strategically placed Gibraltar cowbell post and due to the small size of the mics, I can tuck them in close where I need them. The tonal response is pretty amazing for such a small mic. Highly recommended!
Always my go to tom mics!
I love these mics for live and studio use. They sound fantastic on toms, snare top and bottom, I've used them on sax, trumpet and many different percussion elements. I own 2 and the venue I work for has 4 of them! I can't say enough good things about these mics. I upgraded them cable to a shorter more stout cable (I believe the included cable is like 30' which is to much with sub snakes by the drum kit) otherwise great mics.
Personally I would pic these over most drum mics, except maybe earthworks or beyerdynamic equivalents.
Bodhran
I have been using this mic on my Bodhran playing Irish Trad for years. It has a huge sound and picks up subtle tonal changes. It is easy to pack up and set up. I would not use anything else.
Top notch
I've been using these mics for a long time. They are hard to beat live or in the studio!

I have used many drum mics in the past, but the attack and the mid bass punch is much better with the 98's than other popular mics
Shure Beta 98AD/C Cardioid Condensor Microphone
Great microphones. I use them on all my toms
Love These Mics!
When I was searching for a great mic to use on my toms, I kept coming back to Shure. Size, quality, and transport were big considerations. From a size perspective, I always look for microphones that take up little real-estate (from a space standpoint and a visual standpoint). I have yet to whack one of these during a service or recording. From a sound standpoint, these are phenomenal. I apply very little processing and get a full, focused sound. What's better is that I don't need to travel with an extra case of stands for my tom mics; I simply throw these mics into my rack case, get to the service, and mount them to the toms!
98A for Tom!
I love this mic on both rack and floor toms. Very little EQ needed Live or for Recording. The drum mount goodneck clips are very drum friendly as well. Mount the mic anywhere you like with ease!
My favourite mini condenser
For this type of mini condenser these mics have a smooth sound. Unlike some they are not overly tone-shaped for one task, they're a decent, general-purpose little condenser, in a form factor suitable for drums. With different mountings they also do a great job on horns, cymbals or even piano. I prefer this AD/C model so I can use them on different sources, but I mostly use them on drums. For snare with brushes it's a better sound than my dynamics. Surprisingly rich and deep on floor tom too. The Earthworks one has great attack across the whole range but IMO too bright and you get too much spill from other sources. Plus they're only designed for drums and they fall out of their mounts! For under half the price I prefer the smooth sound of the Beta 98, and it's nice on any brass too with a clamp mounting like the A98KCS, or the Audio Technica one. You can also get a stand adapter and even a supercardioid capsule, which is a little-known option.
Also have to say, I'm really happy I went to Sweetwater to get them. I took advantage of the Boxing Day sale on these which was a great discount, and Sweetwater jumped to it and got them on a plane to me the same day. Ordering from Australia I've tried several major overseas stores and Sweetwater is consistently the best for prompt service and support, on top of great deals.
