Time tested

By Michael from Texas
Music Background: Singer/songwriter,

I purchased my first Beta 87 in 2001. Toured and giged with it up until now. This mic has stood the test of time and withstood the riggers of life on the road. I instantly fell in love with the detail and clarity of the Beta 87 it really lets your vocal cut through the mix and allows you to hear your vocals clearly. My trusty 22 year old mic, although a little Roadworn, still works but I love it so much I had to buy another one. So here's to the next 20 plus years.

Works fine

By Larry from Orlando, Florida
Music Background: Playing a 12 string guitar, mandolin and banjo for over 40 years

I needed a micro phone that I could "wander" some while playing a show. Looking down at the music, at another picker, at the audience all while I was singing. With my Shure 58 the sound would fade in and out as I moved. This Shure Beta 87C seems to keep the volume consistent even as I turn my head. I have also been told the sound of my voice is much clearer and fuller with this new microphone.
So it's doing what I needed and finding it on sale at Sweetwater makes it even nicer.

SHURE BETA 87C

By SLY from MS
Music Background: VOCALIST

I have waited for several months to review the 87C because it takes getting used to. It is the clearest handheld that I have ever used. It cuts through loud guitars and drums so you can actually hear yourself in the mix without having to stand right next to your wedge. Again, I will say; it is very clear. When I say that, I mean what you hear coming out of the speakers is your voice...the good notes and the bad ones. So, if you need to hide your voice in the mix, then stick with your SM58...LOL.

Love this mic!

By John D. from Northern New York
Music Background: Performer - 50 years, Graduate- Crane School of Music. Music teacher- 33 years, Sound Engineer for concert venue

I borrowed a Sure Beta 87-A from the venue that I work at to see how it sounded. I worked with it for about a month and liked it. I was considering buying on when I noticed that there was a Sure Beta 87-cC available for the same price. I really liked what I was reading in the specs of the mic. I decided to order it to try it out. Sweetwater has a great returns policy if a customer is not satisfied with their purchase. I received the mic a few days later. I worked with it for a couple of days. It had all the characteristics that I liked about the 87-A, but it had a much smoother response in the highs and the lows. The 87-C is now my main mic. I like better every time I use it.

Shure 87C Mirophones

By Sweetwater Customer

I have purchased two Shure 87C microphones. Both have arrived quickly and safely. They have been a noticeable improvement to our worship team leaders and congregation. My support with Sweetwater has been very good, I could not hope for better and I look forward to their team helping me in the future with needs as they arise.

Great pick up pattern

By Charlie V. from McMinnville TN
Music Background: Church organist/pianist/vocalist

I ordered the Shure Beta 87C from Sweet Water. It arrived in a timely fashion and was in perfect condition.
We have an old mixer, without phantom power at my church and so I had to pre-amp the mic with the ART Tube MP/C. I got the mic for our worship leader, who plays a Privia PX 150 keyboard ran through a Roland Cube 30. We had a problem with her voice disappearing while she played and directed the worship team. Problem solved with the Shure Beta 87C. Now when she turns her head the mic still picks up her voice the same as it does when she sings directly into the mic. Of course small churches tend to go for the cheapest things they can get, that's why a lot of small churches have big audio problems, especially where cheap hand held dynamic mics are concerned. Small churches like the price and the abuse that dynamic mics can take, however the quality of sound is compromised. A condenser mic solves the audio quality issues. Thanks Alan Carter for your advice and help in selecting the right mic for the situation at my church, it changed how things sound during worship services in my church.

there's nothing Beta

By Michael from Texas
Music Background: Singer/songwriter

This is my second Beta 87. I purchased my first Beta 87A back in 2001. I was blown away by the clarity and definition this mic delivers. I still have, and use, the original but decided to buy a new one. For studio quality live vocals there really is nothing better.

Everything I expect from a Shure mic! It is perfect for our application...in ear monitors with a drum set on stage. Awesome clarity, with all the gain before feedback you should ever need. Let the mic do the wotk!

Seriously enhanced vocals...

By David D. from Ashburn, VA
Music Background: Thirty five years full-time professional musician, working acoustic soloist and singer

Had the opportunity to use a Shure Beta 87C at a casino gig I did last Fall, and liked the sound right away. I'm a full-time pro, acoustic soloist and singer, thirty five years experience, been using an EV 767 for years, got a nice warm sound from it, but the 87C has a much crisper, more articulated sound. I've always set my mics for some distance, as I feel closer proximity picks up more nasal tones, and this mic responds really well to that, while getting closer boosts the bass response and overall power significantly, giving quieter vocal passages a cleaner more resonant reading. Been using the Beta 87C now for about a month, and have been really impressed with the clarity and detail of my vocal, giving me what feels like truer more accurate reproduction, and allowing me to more fully express shades of color and tone as I'm singing.

much better sound over my 58 and 57 mics. I still however like my Heil mic for harp and certain genres of songs over the 87C.

Always reliable

By Bill N. from West TN
Music Background: church sound engineer, bass player

I love the Beta 87 series of mics. The tone quality and eq is very easy to work with. I prefer the 87A to the 87C in general, but when working with stand mics and guitar players, the 87C works better because it's not as tight a cardiod pattern. There is too much drop off in the 87A when a singer moves their head with keeping the mic directly in front. The 87C handles the head swing much better. Can't run the monitors as loud with the C, but I'm in a confined space and don't need them loud .

Affordable and higher quality sound than the SM58 (have never tried the Beta 58).

Smooth and Warm

By Pete from California
Music Background: Pro musician

I use this mic live. I would classify it's sound as even/smooth. Slight proximity effect when within an 1-2 inches, but in no way unpleasant. Presesnce boost is slight ( My ears tell me at around 3-7 khz). I find that the Neumann KSM 105 and the Beta 87C are very similar in response. The only differences I find between them is that the 87C sounds a bit more defused, or a tad less focused, especially on the top in comparison. Where as the KSM 105 has a very focused top and a fatter sound when "eating" the mic" Note: The 87C sounds nothing like the Beta 87A. I find the "A" version mic to have a shrill sound with no warmth. This is an all around great mic.

Smooth and Honest!

By Steve S. from Ann Arbor, MI USA
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Folk Rock Musician, and Student

I purchased this mic through Sweetwater over a year ago and since then I've played about 20 shows with this mic. I LOVE IT! I've been really pleased with how natural it sounds. It sounds great on my voice and it doesn't sound too harsh when I mic my harmonica with it. This microphone allows me to bring studio quality sound to a live gig, which makes me very happy. It's been worth every penny. The only downside to this mic is that it will feedback if you have a loud drum set behind your vocalist, but if you're a solo artist like me, or if you play a quieter style of music, than this mic is perfect.

I've also used this mic in my home studio with wonderful results. I'd recommend this mic to anyone who is looking to give their live sound that "intimate sound," or "Studio Magic." It's a great microphone and I hope you'll be able to enjoy it just as much as I have!

great in house mic

By scott g. from bright indiana
Music Background: musician/recording engineer/singer

I've been using this mic for over a year now and i can say that this mic really sounds great, from all the soft spoken to the screaming and everything in between. I recorded my vocals in my bedroom with street noise yelling kids and a furnace running and it didn't pick any of that up, just my vocal so i would recomend this for those who need to isolate outside noise in the house. My only issue it that i had to by a foam cover for extra protection against the pops because the internal foam only does so much.
well built all metal construction.
