Suhr Bella 44-watt Tube Combo Amplifier - Black Reviews

44/22W, 1-channel, 1 x 12" Tube Combo Amplifier with Boost, Bright Switch, Half Power Switch, and Tube-driven Effects Loop - Black

Suhr’s Bella range of amplifiers is designed to deliver the ultimate pedalboard platform experience, touting a rich American-style tonal foundation that seamlessly melds with any effect you can throw at it. This single-channel 44-wattt amplifier combo dons a pair of 6L6 power tubes and a trio of 12AX7 preamp tubes. This time-tested tube complement, coupled with Suhr’s masterful amplifier engineering, results in a tone that’s clearly inspired by America’s golden age of amplification, only with a firmer bass and richer, fuller-sounding cleans. It's a brilliant tonal blend of old and new that’s equally reflected in the Bella combo’s 12-inch Celestion V-type speaker. A straightforward control section consisting of a 2-band EQ and a Presence knob offers an impressive degree of tone-sculpting power, and you also get a +6dB Boost switch and treble-sharpening Bright switch. As a boutique-grade pedal platform amp, it’s only natural that the Bella’s built-in effects loop delivers a supremely clear and transparent operation — you can even use the loop’s dedicated Send/Return Level knobs to handle line-level rack gear, in addition to standard stompboxes. It’s all topped off with a half-power 22-watt mode, taming the Bella’s stout projection and allowing you to record or practice at home without rattling the windows.

Pay No Attention to that 3 Star Review

By Sweetwater Customer

I spent some time researching a pedal platform amp. I've been playing 5-6 shows a month and playing a Suhr Classic T through a Fender Evil Twin amp which weighs 85 pounds. Even with wheels on the amp, getting it in and out of the car and on/off stages I was looking for something lighter but still with great cleans. I have a nice pedalboard that includes 4 gain pedals that can cover all gain stages so I was not worried about gain Absolutely love my twin but wanted something lighter and more portable. I've read some reviews where they stated that the weight of the Bella was heavy but coming from a Twin this Bella is no problem at all to carry and load in and out of gigs.
As far as the "breaking up too early" I play lots of venues and barely have the volume on about 2 and there is no breakup. Plenty loud and very clean (I keep the boost on at all times like John Suhr does). I see a lot of videos talking about having cleans with an edge of break up but I like pristine cleans and I can get edge of break up with my pedals. What you can't do is go backwards once your clean sound is already breaking up.
I am very happy with this amp. Coming from a Twin Amp that has two 12 inch speakers I was concerned about now playing through just one inch speaker but that is no longer a concern. Played about 25 gigs with this amp so far and the stage volume and fullness of sound is not concern. It fills the space no problem. Also most gigs we are mic'ing the amps and you only mic one speaker anyway through the mains so it's really a stage feel.
Very happy with this amp.

okay

Here it is - at 44 watts, the amp breaks up much sooner than expected, so if you want tight cleans and solid headroom for your pedals, maybe this isn't right for you.

At regular band volume, rehearsal, not playing hard rock or metal, the amp compresses a lot. Using an overdrive with modest gain, the attack on the picked soloing notes is lost, not punchy or very articulate for a pedal platform.

Finally, the combo is seriously heavy, make no mistake.

To summarize, it's not a tight, powerful, clean 44 watts. It loses note articulation when soling at band volume. Heavy!

Terrific Pedal Platform

By Mark M. from Hobart, IN

I'm a pedals guy. I've owned 100+ amps over the last 50+ years. Mostly high end. The Suhr Bella is a tremendous choice for anyone who wants a vast range of audio flexibility that is offered by unique pedal tones. The perfect compliment to pedals.

Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to make sure that I am still alive and have not died and gone to heaven.

Thanks, Josh, for helping me receive and experience the great blessing!

Great amp!

By Matt O. from Tacoma, WA
Music Background: Long-time Player, Always Learning

Really enjoying this amplifier. My LP, Strat, and Tele sound great through it. It's my first experience using an effects loop, but the manual gives some suggestions for setting levels on the return/send inputs. My time/mod effects sound really clean through the Bella, had to expand my board to accomodate going between different amps. Order the boost switch when you order the amp, it is sold separately. If you gig alot, it is heavy so plan accordingly. Overall, love it. Was looking for a well-built "modern" sounding amp to add to my collection. This has it all. Shout out to Scott, my rep, always communicating and getting it done!
