Electro-Harmonix Bassballs Nano Twin Dynamic Envelope Filter Pedal Reviews

Bass Envelope Follower Pedal with Filter Sweep and Fuzz for Bass Guitar

The original Bassballs pedal was a breakthrough effect. In fact, it was the first and only envelope follower of its kind. The Nano Bassballs brings you that same innovative sound - this time in a compact pedal. The Bassballs vocal sound is the product of its two sweeping filters that give your bass a strong presence. Get ready for your bass solo! The sweep is widely variable and you can harmonically enrich your tone by engaging the fuzz option. Sonically identical to the Bassballs but smaller, the Nano Bassballs is a great add-on to your rig.

Exactly as described

This thing sounds great. I love the built in distortion switch and the one knob control. Great product for the price, especially to introduce yourself to envelope filter pedals

Funk it Up!

By Todd Kasuboske from Madison, WI on January 6, 2023

This is just what I needed to give me the funky pop I was looking for. This is a must have bass pedal.

This pedal has thaf desired analog tone while providing cool filter effects and distortion. To Note: my pedal is approx 15 yrs old and came in a different box. Hopefully it's unchanged internally.

EHX BASSBALLS

By Robert from OH on March 8, 2022

I'm mostly a guitar player and tend to like a natural bass sound but this is fun to play around with and can go downright funky if you're in the mood.

Really easy to use

By Gary B from Michigan from Southern Michigan on July 30, 2021

As others here have mentioned, Bassballs might not be the most versatile envelope filter out there, but I'm giving it 5 stars because it's probably the easiest filter to dial in a great sound. The distortion switch is an added bonus. With the switch off, Grover Washington's Mr Magic never sounded so cool! Great sounding, easy to use pedal at a great price.

Fun Effect

By John from Las Vegas, NV on July 12, 2020 Music Background: Bass player since '73

Never really been drawn toward bass pedals, except my compressor, until I had the chance to really dig into the original BASSBALLS...ordered the nano the next day. The tonal options it offers, especially slapping & soloing, make it worth the price. The fact that it is simple to dial in & has no unnecessary frills is a bonus. If you order this, get the EHX US96DC200BI power supply...it will only cost you about what you would spend on 2-3 good 9V batteries.

Best Effect You've Never Heard Of!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 2, 2019

This bad boy is so simple to use and quite frankly, it's already become a go-to for me to play with. I love the funky sound that turning the distortion toggle on creates. I don't really see why you'd play without it, but different strokes for different folks and all that. This pedal is so worth the bang for your buck. I'd rec this to ANYONE at all. I don't think that Mike Gordon from Phish uses this particular pedal, but if you listen to that style of music you can see why I find the sound so desirable.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

I absolutely love the Bass Balls!! It is my favorite bass effect and this particular version is much much smaller than the old one, and it has the standard power supply jack–the older version has the obsolete one.

Highly recommended for all bassists!!

Satisfyingly Nasty

By Sweetwater Customer on March 19, 2018 Music Background: Metal

As a Slipknot fan, I play a lot of their songs myself. When I played the song Skin Ticket, I was blown away. The way this pedal blends nasty with beauty is unreal. When you solo with this piece of hardware, it blends well.

Bassballs

By Serge from Finger Lakes NY on January 15, 2018 Music Background: playing bass for 25 years

Often my favorite pedals are those that require almost nothing from me, a one-trick pony with one impressive trick. This is one of those. To my ears, at least, the tone is outstanding & cuts through the mix, and the controls are so simple that I dialed it in in seconds. If you want your pedal to lots of different things, go elsewhere. If you are looking to have just one single awesome bass envelope filter sound on tap, get the Bassballs.

Bass basics classic

By Tim Glenn from Jersey on July 9, 2021 Music Background: Slap happy (experienced) bassist

This is the pedal Flea uses on the original recording of Sir Psycho Sexy. It's a versatile effect on bass. Great envelope filter to start with as well. Only down side is that you can't use more than one note at a time. If you do a two note chord (anywhere on the fingerboard) the sound just gets lost. Hard to explain. I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying it. It's really cool.

Funky

By Jay from NJ on September 17, 2018

Straight up funky pedal. Well made and takes up very little space on board. Probably not the most versatile of the envelope filters but what this does it does well. Great pedal, keeps low end in tact, lots of fun.

BassBalls

By Michael from Vermont on October 5, 2017 Music Background: Weekend warrior

I like it because it is simple and it gets the job done. I like the way it can funk up a tune. I also like the distorted side of it, just a flick of the switch and you have distorted funk tones. I am glad I bought it and so glad I didn't buy one that has four or five knobs that I would have had to mess with. Just one knob on this little guy set it and forget it. It is also very small, so you can put in your guitar bag as well.

so far so good still learning but like what I hear!!!

Bassballs Nano

By Steve Doner from Chicago on January 24, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist bass player and builder

Interesting effect and a nice for the price. I play with a light touch, so I have to tweak the gain in the fx loop to trigger the effect but what I have ended up using it for primarily is light distortion. I have my VT bass set to add a little warmth all the time, kick in the Bassballs to add a little more grind and/or engage the Big Muff for full on raging distortion.

Nice Filter/Flanger Overall Effect

By Leland Byrd from Dallas TX on November 10, 2010 Music Background: Upright and Electric Bassist, Studio Manager, Bass Instructor

I have had this pedal for about a year and I use it in a chain of many other effects including digital software effects and an '88 Lexicon Effects Processor, and I really like the way it warms up the other effects with the flange-sounding decay sound. It is also a funky stand alone effect, cool with bass harmonics etc. I did however break the distortion switch with my foot at some show, and now i need a replacement as it just mutes my channel...

Ice Pick

By James Kinnaird from Denton on June 6, 2023 Music Background: Bass

So thrilled to try this pedal, but from the time I plugged it in I got an incurable "ice pick"" per pick. I am currently playing a Spector Euro, and was dying for the "Waters" effect. It's there, but only after the "!" before the note. Electro Harmonix is a reputable brand, but my experience has been lackluster.

meh

By e from memphisish on October 17, 2014 Music Background: didn't include bassballs

A better man may find a good use for this pedal, but I just can't apply it in a way that makes anything better. I'm sure my imagination is at least partially to blame. I love electro harmonix, but this ones not for me. It will soon grace the pawn shop display case.
