Incredibly unique.

There is nothing that can quite do what this pedal does. It had such a wide range of sounds that work in the studio or on the stage. Really fantastic, I'm having lots of fun with mine.

MUST HAVE

By Matt from Atlanta GA on February 19, 2019 Music Background: 15+ years on bass

The micro synth is an absolutely must have for every bassist! Especially those in a modern style church. You cannot best the power for those big moments. Highly recommend this!

Possibilities Galore

By Tim from IL on January 4, 2018 Music Background: Been playing music for 25 yrs plus

So I ordered this micro bass synth from Sweetwater and went with the store demo. First off, I can't even tell it was a demo. Sweetwater said it had minor scuffs..I can't see any wear and tear. The sounds I'm able to conjure up from this tiny pedal is astonishing to me. EHX makes great quality pedals. I use a jazz bass and the pedal required zero adjustments..sounds great right out of the box. Originally, I was reviewing fuzz pedals. But when I saw video reviews of this little bad-boy, I realized I can get all that fuzz and waaay more for a little more money. I immediately recognized that this micro synth could help bring a more current sound to my band's original music. I looked at similar synth pedals from rival companies such as Boss, DOD, etc.. But this synth had a much broader range and more voicing options. When you combine that with all the customer support offered by Sweetwater, it was an easy decision. Sure, other companies offer this same pedal at the same price, but why be just another number? Sweetwater goes the extra mile and I really appreciate that in this day of being treated as a source of revenue. If you're on the fence on this product, pull the trigger and make it happen.

There is nothing micro about it.

This pedal is by far the best purchase I've made in a long time. The effects are astounding and the combinations are seemingly limitless. Once you get a feel for the individual aspects this pedal has to offer, you can create sounds that will blow people's minds whilst making their booties shake. If you're on the fence, jump over and buy this pedal.

Great synth pedal for going big!

By Dakota Wagner on January 24, 2021 Music Background: Worship

This is a great choice for when you want an octave fuzz all in one. Perfect for go-big moments. It's very popular amongst worship bass players. I will say the tracking is a bit iffy for the square wave, you have to set the trigger just right otherwise you will lose the square wave when playing legato. This is not an issue for the other voices in the circuit.

It does the big synth sound well, but I was able to get some funky sounds out of it too for a "disco" night me and my buddies played at.

EH Bass Micro Synth

By Rich Lysaght from Hicksville, OH on July 5, 2011 Music Background: Guitarist, Bassist, Engineer....20+ years experience

I read several reviews and watched many videos before purchasing the Bass Micro Synth pedal. One thing I read in many of the reviews turned out to be true in my case as well. When I tried this device with an active bass, I struggled to make it work the way I wanted to.

Plugging my passive Jazz bass into it though made it work great. Loads of tweakability. Very minor changes in the control can make a vast difference in the output sound of this unit.

Using this pedal live might be a bit of a struggle if you're going to get more than one sound out of it for a given show. Getting back to a sound that you like may also be a struggle. EH very wisely put some templates in the manual to help you find sounds while you are getting familiar with the unit. They also have blank templates so that you can remember how to get back to sounds you have created.

I am really digging this pedal.

Love and hate

By Patrick from chicago on May 17, 2019 Music Background: professional bass player

I absolutely love the tone and power of this pedal, it never leaves my pedal board(ever) and rarely a gig goes by where I don't use it. Thus enter the hate, I am about to either buy my third one in ten years or find an alternative synth pedal. The sliders stop responding first, then the tracking starts to decrease, the deathblow is significant loss of volume and sustained notes start to "shelve". I give it 4 stars because the tone produced is really that amazing, at least for 3-4 years. I take good care of my pedal board and it has never had a drink spilled on it nor has it been exposed to rain so the only cause for the decreasing performance that I can think of is general wear and tear. Which is fine, I would just like something more durable if it is out there.

If you play Bass, you need one of these

By Nick Santoro from NY, NY on February 28, 2015 Music Background: Active non-professional player

This is a pedal that does it all. Articulate distortion, additional EQ shaping, funky wah and moog-like sounds are all here. I also find that like most EHX pedals, the Micro Synth has a solid tonal timbre…great tone!.

Decent, but a couple of inherent problems

By David Senderoff from West Haven, CT on March 25, 2024

I spent a lot of time before I bought this pedal looking at reviews, etc. Overall, not a bad pedal. I would not buy it again though. Bottom line: its a bit of a one hitter. So, forget about dialing up sounds on the fly. Once I found a setting that would work for me, I leave it alone. When I want it, it's there, but otherwise the unit is off. The Guitar is pretty thin, the Octave is not very good, the Square also has problems (massive amounts of artifacts). Not bashing it, but I will say I was warned. I do get a few really cool sounds that match the type of style that I play...most of the time. Then, it's off. I don't think it plays well with other effects, but I may not know how to tweak everything correctly either. Still on my board, but I think its fair to say the criticism that I read or watched online is accurate.

Fun

By Vince from New York, NY on January 7, 2015 Music Background: Audio Engineer, Musician

Received this pedal at work, earlier today. Came home and played around with it.
I'm not going to lie...It's not exactly what I thought it was going to be.
But I'm not returning it though, because it's definitely fun to experiment with. Diff sounds to play with that'll eventually come in handy :)
BUT...Sadly I don't think it will be going on my pedalboard any time soon.

A really awful piece of equipment

By Joe from Sarasota, FL on January 15, 2011 Music Background: Bass player

The 1 star I gave this item is far more than the Micro Synth deserves. This pedal does not track your playing about 60% of the time, the unadjustable gate needs to get hit hard to open and it closes like a steel trap if you try to sustain a note for more than 1/2 a second, the pedal pops and clicks at the beginning and end of virtually every note played (like you're plugging and unplugging your bass with every note), and it constantly hisses whenever the gate opens (though "hiss" does not describe the wind tunnel-like white noise it produces).

The cool sounds that it makes cannot be overcome by the series of serious technical flaws in its design, Electro-Harmonix really needs to go back to formula on this one.
