Whirlwind Bass Ten 10-band Bass EQ Pedal Reviews

10-band Bass EQ pedal with Constant-Q design

Whirlwind's Bass Ten is a 10-band EQ pedal that lets you sculpt your bass sound anyway you hear it. From the mind of the noted electronics designer Tony Gambacurta, the Bass Ten sports unprecedented precision and clarity for a device of this type. With each band's frequency width remaining the same for both small and large boosts or cuts, the Bass Ten's constant-Q design gives you quick and intuitive shaping control over your signal. With its tour-proof, made-in-USA build quality, ease-of use, and fabulously transparent sonics, you'll adore the Whirlwind Bass Ten.

Whirlwind Bass Ten

By Kipp from Wauseon, OH on January 18, 2022 Music Background: Bass player in a Classic/Contemporary Rock cover band

I recently purchased this pedal and I am totally satisfied with the results I get. Powerful, clean, and a plethora of tone settings to be had! Although (for the most part), I will set it and forget it. It will definitely be an "always on" pedal! Solidly built and DEAD QUIET. My rig (Mesa Subway D-800 with a Subway 115 and 112 ran in tandem) sounded great without the Whirlwind EQ, but the EQ took it to a different level. Notes are crystal clear without any distorted overtones. I am still "experimenting" with this pedal because I want to see what other types of sonic bliss I can achieve. Highly recommended!

Incredible

If you're a bassist and you've got some frequencies you need to control, you have to get this. Mine just arrived today, and as soon as I turned it on I was sold. I got this pedal as opposed to some other cheaper bass EQs because I liked the frequencies they had chosen. My problem area is at 80 hz, and every other pedal I saw had only 60 hz or 120 hz bands. This cleaned that right up without thinning out my sound.

After that, I had a ton of fun experimenting with different boosts and cuts. It's tough to find a bad setting. The bands are so natural sounding. Even flat it adds a lot of clarity to your sound. How? I'm not sure. I honestly believe it might be magic.

I already had a high pass/low pass filter pedal, but I think I'm going to sell it. This pedal totally serves that function but with much more surgical precision.

Finally, the tones I've been trying to find for decades. This pedal is awesome

This is it!

Old retired guy. Every Christmas I get some musical goodies and my wife says "Don't you have an couple of those already?" i finally got around to seriously using this today. Definitely designed for bass, great quality. One of my basses is a high quality 6 string that I just couldn't bond with. Just did little bumps on some sliders and wow, sounds great! Try it with effects to really bring out what you have been hearing in your head. Really impressed with this!

This pedal not only can boost your volume should you choose but it brings clarity to your rig regardless how you set the eq. I am very happy with this pedal.

A REAL Equalizer !!!

By California Mountain Freak from Sierras on July 2, 2018 Music Background: Old-Time Keyboardist, Rookie Bassist

My Sales Engineer, Adam Vaughn REALLY steered me right on this one !
Don't try to function without a good Graphic Equalizer . I learned this 50 years ago listening to music . Every venue is different . To hear the right sounds, they've got to match the Acoustics of where they're performed . I learned this at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as a child .
I decided to add an EQ and take the Budget way out to match my Bass.... Ya get whatcha pay fer ! I sure am happy I listened to Adam . He recommended the Whirlwind . It costs a little more than some, but trust me — you'll NEVER be disappointed that you invested the difference .
Try it — you'll LIKE it !

Outstanding must own pedal

By Mike Menkes on May 24, 2018 Music Background: 30 years playing bass from country to metal

A good dedicated bass effect pedal is hard to come by. I knew I'd be using a communal bass rig for a charity even in a couple weeks, and the only way to ensure my tone was an EQ pedal. Sweetwater got this to me in Canada overnight, and its amazing to use when for 30 years I've relied entirely on 4 knobs on my amp. I can isolate the tone of my instrument over 10 frequencies. Clipping the bottom end got rid of that boomy overtone while I boosted the overall bass to just get an amazing augmentation of the bass tone. Having access to all the highs let me perfectly dial in the attack I was looking for, while boosting or scooping mids got me a huge variety of tones to adjust to all the eclectic songs I'll have to play. Very precise. No hint of white noise from the unit at all. Big and solid. Its basically a full pre-amp for players who also need to plug into the PA. All the bands have huge dynamic range for some real sculpting of your tone. The volume boost/cut also is very handy. The service at Sweetwater is phenomenal too. They'll respond to your online order in minutes, give you answers before you even knew you had questions, and make sure you're satisfied with your order before they ship.

A Box Of Tone Sculpting Magic

By Linn Spencer from The Shenandoah Valley Of Virginia on February 20, 2015 Music Background: Semi-Professional Bass Player of 44 Years

Color me joyfully delirious! I finally broke down and ordered a Whirlwind Bass Ten graphic EQ, and man let me tell you this box rocks! Yes they’re expensive and I put off buying one for almost two years. What a maroon!
I plugged it up yesterday evening between my Jazz and Rumble 75 combo mostly as just a test to see if everything was working properly. Man was it ever! The frequency bands are perfectly chosen for electric bass guitar. I love tone sculpting and this is the very best graphic EQ I’ve ever used. Quick; easy, and intuitive I dialed in a huge grand piano tone that just ripped. Unfortunately I had to restrain my exuberance and shut down for the night.
About mid-morning I set up my Rumble 350 head and one of my Rumble 112 Neo cabs. This time I ran the Bass Ten through the effects loop in order to tone sculpt the pre-amped bass signal. The Bass Ten is dead quiet with 0 distortion. My 350 was set up with my favorite stage tone which is a very full and wide ranging. I plugged in my Jazz and just kicked in the Bass Ten with the very same setting form last night, and man alive! I was floored by the richness of tone. I tweaked some more and got the bottom nice and tight and fully defined. No Mud. No Flab. No Sludge. I like very meaty mids with lots of growl & snarl. So easy it’s not funny, but to be fair my Jazz has tons of great sounding mids to begin with. Now they’re better. I like highs that are smooth and soaring - crystal clear with a bit of bark/spank. Got ‘em!
Then it was time to hook up my Precision Assault Bass strung in GHS Precision flats with all the powers of darkness. All in the world I had to do was to turn off the tweeter and put the three high bands back flat. The rest I left the same and it was GLORIOUS! The attack was like Patton’s 3rd Army and the midrange was dark meat for days. Just enough highs for close aerial support. I couldn’t help but kick in the Rumbles’ Overdrive for a full frontal assault. The charge was successful and battle for better bass tone is won.

Expand or tighten with just a slide ...

I was seeking to just get a little bit more out of a 2004 Stingray 4H. On the advice of a more experienced player I went with the Whirlwind. Totally awesome! It makes my Stingray and my Fender PJ sound "just a little bit more." Each frequency is in its own lane so to speak, with just a tad of overlap, but without sounding blurred or muddy. Definitely a bulletproof always on pedal, but recommend keeping the decibels near negative one; it"s that powerful and awesome! Of course, Sweetwater rules.

Your Bass tone doesn't get better than this

By Al Bluedawg Beck from Los Angeles Ca on October 4, 2016

Built like a tank and EQ's my G&L SB 2 to sound totally smooth. My bass has no tone knob it just balances between neck and bridge pickups with two volume knobs. This EQ added what I needed to get things smoothed out. I couldn't be happier. Whirlwind builds great equipment, this pedal is built to take the everyday pounding us musicians know how to deliver so well. Spend the money, you'll be glad you did.
