Exactly what I was looking for

By Kevin from Fort Lauderdale on March 15, 2024

I was looking for a guitar that I could play around the house, on the patio, etc without worrying too much about getting it banged up. The composite back and sides aren't vulnerable to bumps and dings like regular acoustics. After tuning it up, the more I played it the better I liked it. The sound is bright but balanced. I don't usually play through an amp, but you can get a lot of different tones/sounds plugged in. With the deep back, you get plenty of volume without being plugged in. I really love the playability of this guitar. The neck by the nut is thinner, but it fits my hand perfectly. I really enjoy playing this guitar. After putting some string eze on the strings, I was able to play up and down the neck accurately and comfortably. The ebony fretboard is great. I wouldn't call myself a shredder but I get around on this guitar pretty well. The action is a little high past say the 10th fret, but it doesn't bother me and could be adjusted if it ever does.
I find it lends itself very well to my hybrid style flat picking. Don't know if it would be great for fingerpicking as the neck is thinner than the Spanish style guitars. The frets are fine.
Lastly, I think it the best looking Ovation ever. Beautiful red cherry sunburst. I also like the inlays on the fretboard. Love the headstock as well with the wood crown over black. Thanks to Joe Holsclaw for helping me with this purchase. Will definitely be buying more from Sweetwater.
Great Experience!

Awesome guitar

I have owned this guitar for about two months. I have played in two outdoor venues. It is very fast action as I had it pleked. The sound is perfect for me and my style. Even when I accompany other it contributes it's unique sound. A very nice workhorse of a guitar and it's beautiful.

Awesome!

What a great guitar and what fantastic help from my personal Sales Engineer Joel Helton. For anyone looking the help and attitude from Sweetwater staff is without a doubt comforting and precise. Right out of the box this guitar sounded great, played great and was everything I had hoped it would be.

Very good quality

By Jerry Jah from Bronx NY on August 16, 2016

I bought this guitar from sweetwater several years ago when it included a hard case when it was blown out on a sale price as it was replaced by the same exact guitar but now sold without a case. Its a very stable instrument takes set ups well.
The neck is stable and the bridge can be adjusted by both height and angle by the tapered shims included. Sounds loud and very clear.
If you want the sound of the fiberglass Rainsong or Composite guitars but dont want to spend 2 thousand dollars then this is a good substitute.

FANTASTIC & VERY VERSATILE GUITAR!

By Sheldon R. from Pennsylvania on June 15, 2015 Music Background: Long-time guitar player

A TERRIFIC guitar---both acoustically & amped-up! Has a nice, balanced richness & resonance, & is very comfortable to play! This is my first acoustic guitar with the electric option, & I really like the control panel with the equalizer, etc.on this guitar. I want to thank Mike Soper---my Sales Rep.---for doing his usual GREAT job in providing me with the VERY BEST service, advice, quickness in shipping, & much more! I also want to thank Colin W. in the service dept. for taking the extra time & effort in making sure everything was OK!

Great guitar

By Guy C on July 5, 2014

Superb guitar that suits strumming or picking styles. Good acoustic and electric sound, good projection. Action rather high, although the shims are removed. Therefore preferable to use lighter strings or tune the instrument lower flat. Clean finish, nice neck. Need velcro to prevent the body from sliding, common Ovation guitars default. I recommend it without reserve ...

Nice guitar for strummer/pickers

By Jerry from NYC on September 21, 2012 Music Background: guitarist 30 years

I finally realize I prefer this type of guitar, with a narrow round neck rather than the wide flatter necks of the fingerstyle guitars.
Other than high action beginning around the 10th fret and upwards, this guitar is pristine, really nice tight binding and a great feel and sound. Stays in tune forever, very stable. The tension on the strings is tremendous, so perhaps tuning down a half step would make it a little easier to bend strings. Overall a very nice value here and the case is more than sufficient. Very easy to adjust the truss rod for setups.

Very nice for the price

By Jerry from NY on February 8, 2015 Music Background: guitarist 30 years blues rock jazz

I got mine when it came with a hard case. Its a nice guitar you can add or subtract the shims under the bridge to adjust the action height. The back is contoured so it doesnt slip out of your lap like the old style Ovations. Neck is quality has quality feel very substantial. Nice frets.
