Perfection!

By John Patitucci from Dallas, Texas on January 19, 2023 Music Background: Bassist for Slaves Wage

I was first introduced to Elixir strings for my Taylor acoustics and I was always impressed with how long they lasted. I have a set on now that are 2 years old and they are still amazing. I took the chance on these because as a Metal bass player I'm very aggressive with my playing and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on strings because they would just go dead quickly.

As a control test, I have my regular got-to strings on one bass and the Elixirs on another. To my surprise the Elixirs sound just as good now as when I put them on a couple weeks ago. The other strings, not so much. I'm convinced that Elixir brand is the best string available for lasting tone and clarity!

Just try them!

By Steve from MN on September 21, 2022 Music Background: 45 year , now professional bass player

My new all time favorite strings.
All I can say is that I've played 45 years and I can just play my absolute best with these strings, they're literally just right in every way, I know that sounds pretty lame but they really got these right and it's all way over my head, just try these, that's all

Elixir bass strings coating Nickel

The Elixir bass coated nickel strings will give your bass the uniformity, the punch, the mids and greatness in each note that other brands do not produce, it is the reality, they are bright enough for your instrument to shine like the sun, because of the coating they are excellent, maybe they are more expensive but they are worth paying more because they can last with a good tone for up to more than a year.I'm a Sadowsky NYC and Sadowsky Yoshi UV70 user,if the Elixir bass nickel coated strings don't sound uniform , bright like a sun, gigantic with deep lows and sounds with razor-cut mids, Sorry, the problem is your bass or . In my personal opinion I have only tried a brand of coated strings better than elixir, but they are much more expensive. It is a shame there is little or no inventory of Elixir bass strings in the world due to the pandemic, if I do not see elixir inventory I will have to change and pay more for the brand that I liked the most, unfortunately when with Elixir bass nanoweb I have everything.

Best strings EVER

By Sweetwater Customer from Pennsylvania on August 17, 2021 Music Background: Pro

Hands down, these are the best strings. Ya, you don't get the ultra tingy tangy bright's as an uncoated string, but those ones only last a few days, at best and then are dead in less than a week of daily playing. Plus, the feel of these are #1, as well. You don't get your fingers all chawed-up, from playing. Don't worry about the added cost, as you won't be changing these strings, like you do with ANY other brand. Just buy them!

The ultimate roundwound string????

By Marsh from AL on October 10, 2020

BLUF, these strings are awesome.

Everything that I normally don't like about stainless steel strings, the elixir coating fixes. Everything that I normally don't like about elixir strings, using a stainless steel string fixes. These things have great tone, last forever, and feel smooth and fast on the fingers.

This is the only set of rounds I will ever buy again (Still have flats on my old Jazz that I can't get rid of).

Old Hands Love these Strings

By Robert Bryant from Erie, CO on January 4, 2019 Music Background: Praise and Worship, Rock, Blues, and just anything Fun!

My Taylor 816ce came with Elixir Strings and I really liked them. When I tried a set on my Stingray5 MusicnMan I realized my fingers don't hurt after hours of playing. I've been playing bass for over 43 years and I've had my Stingray5 for over 10 years.

I bought a set of these strings last march and they play great! I'm a foundational bass player and I play in 3 Praise and Worship teams. After performing and practicing my hands feel good and I could really go on for another few hours.

And isn't that what most of us love to do? Play for hours! Yea! Ok, call Patrick and try out a set and comment here what you think.

Great-sounding, long-lasting.

These strings provide beautiful tone, and last much, much longer than conventional strings. They are are expensive, but for a serious player using a high quality bass, they are definitely worth the premium price.

Best Strings!!

IMHO, Simply the Best

By Jim Glunt from Arizona on March 20, 2018 Music Background: professional musician

I first heard about Elixir Strings around 12 years ago from my guitar tech, but the price kept me away. Finally I decided to try one set of them, a 5-string bass set I put on my Steinberger Synapse. That changed everything. They sounded better, they played better, and they lasted longer. As a multi-instrumentalist, I eventually converted my electric guitars, my acoustic guitars and my mandolin to Elixir. The only things that I don't have Elixirs on are my fretless jazz bass (Elixir doesn't make flatwounds) and my pedal steel (Elixir doesn't make pedal steel sets). I think they're simply the best

Great as t strings

By Rob from San Francisco Bay Area on June 7, 2017 Music Background: Rock/Jazz

I have always loved Elixir for gutair so when I noticed they make bass strings I just had to try them out. I love the ease in which they play. My band mates noticed that I sounded really good without me telling them about my new strings. I think they play like butter.

Elixir bass strings

By Jose L Orellano on December 17, 2016 Music Background: Bassist for the last 30 years.

No other strings last longer. They retain that new string tone for ever. A normal set of string will last me for only 2 or 3 weeks with that fresh tone, the elixirs will give you at least 3 or 4 months with that tone.

Solid tone

These strings have great sound and great life span . Always solid and dependable.

Great set of Bass Strings. The brightness of the strings last a good while and the smoothest strings I ever played

Very nice sounding and long lasting strings

Saving me a tone of money, and still sounding great

By Ken Carver from Austin, Tx on January 7, 2015 Music Background: Professional Bassist/Guitarist/Vocalist

There a running joke around these parts...

Q: "How often does an Austin bassist change his strings?"
A: "Once a decade, whether he needs to or not."

I don't fall into that category. The cover band I'm playing bass in is taking on music from Yes, Rush, and other fairly progessive artists. To that end, I need a bright ringing round-wound string sound (ala Geddy Lee or Chris Squire). As a result, I was changing strings for every show. In the last 2 years, I've spent over $1200 on bass strings. Something had to give.

I happened to come across an interview with Ricky Phillips (bassist for Styx, and fellow Austinite) and his bass tech. They mentioned they were having to change his strings for every show (and Ricky plays a lot more than I do). But after switching to Elixir strings, they were able to get 4 or 5 shows out of a set. And then, they were only changing them because the coating was starting to flake where Ricky picks. If they're good enough for large theater/arena shows for Ricky, they're darned sure good enough for me on club dates.

I took the plunge and strung up my main 4 and 5 strings with Elixirs. I'm 3 shows and 4 rehearsals in on both instruments now. I keep thinking "I ought to change before the next show", but then I check 'em and they still sound as good as when I put them on.

They did take some getting used to. They're definitely smoother than a standard round-wound. It's also a different feeling tension...not better or worse...just different.

Two caveats if you're changing from standard round-wounds to Elixirs:
1. You will need to re-intonate your bass, even if you're staying with the same gauges. What I call the "vibration take-off point" is different than an uncoated string.

2. If you have grounding problems with your instrument, coated strings can make it worse. In other words, if you have to have your hands on your strings to quiet down your bass, that's not going to work as well with a coated string (the coating acts as an insulator).

I tried coated strings many years ago when they first appeared. I may have had them on an instrument for 15 minutes before I ripped them off and tossed 'em. Not the case anymore...Elixir has done their homework and improved the product 100 fold. My only complaint (and the reason I gave 4.5 stars instead of 5) is that I wish there were more options on gauges. If they made a 45-60-80-100 for my Fenders, I'd be set;)

If you're a bassist that needs a bright ringing tone but don't want to spend more on strings than rent, you owe it to yourself to check out Elixirs. You'll spend a little more up front, but you'll save a ton in the long run.

Close Call

Great sounding strings that should be very long lasting. The only problem I had, and wasn't really a problem, was that I have an extra long 35" scale bass (Ibanez BTB). The top string barely reached the nut before it started tapering down. I could not recommend these strings to those of you with the 35 1/2" scale like some of the Carvins.

Great Sounding, Silky Smooth, And Long Lasting But Be Aware Of B String Length

By Sweetwater Customer on November 24, 2021

The B string begins tapering at too short a length to work with a 35" scale bass with standard bridge stringing or a 34" scale bass with stringing through the body.

Good strings with some minor compromises

By Bill Cody from Broomfield, CO on March 12, 2020 Music Background: Professional musician

I play a MTD 535 bass, and about a month ago these strings replaced my MTD strings that I've been using since day one. My observations:

1) The Elixir tone is comparable to the MTD, which is bright and clear.
2) After a month of playing, the Elixir tone is still like new whereas the MTD's would have started to become dull and less "glassy."
3) The Elixir tension feels a bit stiffer than the MTD's, requiring a little more finger pressure especially near the nut.
4) The Elixir feels smoother than the MTD's, but not by much.
5) The Elixir low-B does not have an exposed core as does the MTD, which required some string height adjustment. The Elixir low-B also sounded less "resonant" than the MTD, but that difference disappeared over time since the MTD's would have become duller anyway.

Bottom line, the plusses outweigh the negatives, and I may have found my new favorite string. Ideally, adding an exposed core low-B would make these a slam-dunk.

Bright tone

By Scott from Newton, Iowa on September 18, 2018 Music Background: Weekend warrior

It's been a while since I've replaced my bass strings,so just about anything would have been an improvement.

I went with the Elixir strings this time for a couple of reasons: pro recommendations and I wanted something that would (hopefully) hold tone longer since I don't replace them as frequent as maybe I should.

The first thing I noticed after putting them on is some fret buzz in a couple of areas. I adjusted the bridge saddle height before they went on, so that might have introduced the buzz, but I can't be certain. No matter, I'll make a few tweaks and I'm sure that'll go away.

Time will tell if I stay with these or go back to what I had been using, but these do sound good.

Great Sound

By Steve from WPB Florida on July 28, 2016

Strings have a great tone and feel. Taking a bit long to stretch and stay in tune.
My last set of Elixir's did not have that issue.
